Works great but the battery lid is not latching quite right any more, similar to what another reviewer wrote. It has definitely not be mishandled - in pristine condition...need to examine more closely.

I have owned 2 different sets of these binoculars for 16 years. I am amazed that anyone would ever buy non-IS binoculars. If you are used to normal shaky images, get ready for a different world of detail.

I've had 2 of these units. Both had the same problem. The Battery lid becomes loose and it seems to lose battery contact with the stabilization unit. Eventually, it totally stops working. Have tried to get canon to respond for repair with no luck. Will not buy again.

This has been great for going to outdoor NFL football games. As useful as more expensive binoculars because of the image stabilization feature.Lenses are also good.

Canon had rebates for stabilizers, but I did not receive it after I filled out the form and sent it by certified mail before the deadline. When I called the number on the form, the number was not working at all. Be cautious with Canon.

I purchased the 8x25 IS binocular knowing that it lacked the features and capability of its big brother the five (5 star rated 10x42 IS. Yes, the 10x42 IS is a superior binocular, no doubt, but I wanted an image stabilized binocular for travel that weighed around one (1) pound. The 8x25 IS fits the bill as the 10x42 IS is at least twice as heavy. Also the 8x25 IS is fairly compact, which is good since I never check bags and space is at a premium. A big plus, the 8x25 IS is very afford-ably priced. I made several international trips/cruises with the diminutive 8x25 IS this past year and couldn't be happier - the 8x25 IS performed flawlessly. Though I always use the neck strap, it would be nice to have a rubberized sleeve or glove that could be slipped over the binocular for a more confident grip.

These are without a doubt the best binocs I've owned. Canon starts with excellent glass that transmits a bright, true-color image, then adds their proprietary image stabi, which is a revelation. I love to hand these to a hiking companion and hear them say, "Ahhh..." when they press the button and see the image become rock-steady. It's like having the binocs on a tripod, only better, because you can pan around in all directions-- great for following a soaring bird, or scanning the night sky. I've used these in a canoe and on the deck of a boat; I've used them in an airplane to study the terrain below; I've used them from the passenger seat of a car, to study road signs and traffic conditions ahead. They're great for backyard birding at any distance over 10 ft. The image stabi permits close, careful study of identifying (and visually stunning) markings, even in low light. They are a bit bulky and heavy (but still more portable than most porro prism binocs). Sometimes I stick to smaller binocs when backpacking, although no compact binocs will please as much as these Canons. An X-shaped binoc strap will hold them quite nicely when hiking. One caveat: the battery is an odd 3-volt size, which you might not find in a little country store, so be sure to have extras on hand when travelling. One battery will last a long time, though, as you can find and focus your subject, then press and hold the stabi button for only as long as you need to. Oh, and the price is right, too! Great binocs.

I also own 8x 30 Swarovskis and 8x20 Leicas. The lenses are not as sharp but the optic image stabilizer more than makes up for it. It takes away the motion that can cause headaches with cheaper binoculars. Great purchase for someone that can't afford the pricey brands.

Absolutely fantastic. No longer do I need to brace myself against something to see an object clearly. I can hardly believe the difference between my previous binoculars and this pair.

great optics, IS works great ,slightly bulky-heavy. Canon needs to produce reasonably priced waterproof set.

I own both the 8 X 25 IS and the 10 X 30 IS at present and have owned the 12 X 36 IS in the past. This is really a case of you get what you pay for. The 8 X 25 IS is a high quality binocular for the asking price. However, I have found the 10 X 30 IS to be a better product in performance and quality and worth the extra money. So, if you are considering buying an IS binocular go with the 10 X 30 IS. Also, I found the 12 X 36 IS to be a bit heavy for most uses.

These binoculars are awesome; lightweight, compact, and crystal clear. A little over-priced but perfect for travel and general use. The only issue is with IS feature. It helps with very windy days or shaky platforms, etc. but it distorts the crystal clear image slightly. It does help control the binoculars but you do loose superior viewing.

I have the larger 15 x50 also I wanted something lighter for my jeep. So I purchased these and they work great. lighter easier to carry and much less expensive. Iwish Canon would take their photo technology and add it to an serires of image stabilized Binoculars like maybe the 15 x50 or 18 x80,

The image stabilizer feature makes these move powerful than the size indicates.

Image stabilized binoculars are the only way to go. Once you've tried IS binoculars, you'll never go back to "ordinary" binoculars. A tip, be sure to always carry a spare battery in the carrying case.

A great but for the price. Crisp bright image, not to heavy or bulky to take along to sporting or other events. All but does away with the worst part of using binoculars-that jittery image. Bought them for bird watching and have enjoyed many other uses.
