Questions & Answers

STEVE C : Can I use a pocketwizard transmitter?ARMAN A : no, not with the cactus v4. it runs on a different infrequence. i have the pocetwizard plus 2s i tryed and it didnt work.BRIAN H : I'm 100% sure those are not compatible with this receiver.JUAN R : don't knowJUAN R : I'm still playing with it helps me reduce the shadows of my subjects I bought one transmitter and two receivers I'm happy with this productHERBERT C : Absolutely not. These only work with the Cactus V4 transmitter (and not the V2 or V5 either).NATHAN K : Not sure. I've never tried to pair a Pocket Wizard with a Cactus receiver. If I was to guess, I would have to say no. Wireless products usually operate at different frequencies in order to avoid cross communication with other products. I'm confident that the Cactus receiver would not recognize the Pocket Wizard as a transmitter. Option1: You can purchase the Cactus transmitter and one receiver as a package. If you need additional receivers to operate multiple flashes, as an example, you can purchase as many single Cactus receivers as you need. You can then sync all of the Cactus receivers with the one Cactus transmitter. Option 2: If you already have a Pocket Wizard transmitter, you can purchase another Pocket Wizard. Depending on the model, I believe that some models of Pocket Wizards can act as the transmitter or receiver; however, the most recent models of Pocket Wizard that act as transmitter/receiver are also quite pricy. Good luck.MARY U : Not sure. I have never used the wizards
KEVIN H : Does the Cactus wireless receiver come with a cable for external flash equipment that doesn't have a hot-shoe? Thanks. KJHANGELA R : It should. Mine did.FRANCISCO T : no, it doesn'tMICHAEL C : It comes with PC, phone plug (6.35mm) and mini phone plug (3.5mm) cables. I use it to trigger my DG600 monolights with the mini phone plug cable. Works great.JENNIFER M : Yes it does. You may need to buy extra cords of the type you need depending on how many lights you have. I've never used any of the 3 cords/cable included, so I had to look up what they're used for but the Adorama description says: "use the flash's connection cable to connect the receiver and the flash." And if you do a search for "what type of cords come with cactus v4" you'll find that this is the cord you need : 3.5mm Plug Cable (CA-350) for Cactus V4 Wireless Flash Trigger I checked my gear and it is in fact included (along with 2 other cords I know nothing about! Good Luck and Happy Shooting:)ARMAN A : hi, yes it comes with a 3.5mm to PC sync cable .HERBERT C : It doesn't come with one, but they aren't expensive. I think mine was $5 or so, from here on Adorama. You're looking for one with 1/8" mono miniphone on one end (for the V4) and PC on the other.MICHAEL A K : Short answer is: Yes According to their web site: Compatible to portable flashes and studio strobes Connection port: 3.5 mm (1/8”) mono mini-phone Includes one 3.5mm to PC sync cable (CA-100) ThanksBRIAN H : Yes, it comes with a couple. You may have to get an adapter depending on which strobe you use.ALBERT D : Sure does!JONATHAN A : I believe there is a 3.5mm stereo hack to pc cable, so if your flash has a pc port you can connect it. I would get the V5 instead, it is much more reliable with the higher frequency radio signal.MARY U : Yes. It comes with several different cables to attach with different flashes other than hot shoe.JOSHUA S : Yes. Mine can with 2 additional cables for units that do not have a hot shoe. I don't know the size of the cables. But one of them works with another set of flash units that I have with no hot shoe.
Shopper : it works to use in nikon d7000? i have a sigma ef 610 dg flash.JOSHUA S : Yes. The cactus is of a simple design. So.... if you have a hotshoe on your camera, and it is a hot shoe flash. This will work for you. JOHN DE M : I have a older version of your Sigma Flash and a Canon D60 camera. The sigma flash works better than my second Canon EX flash does. The sigma fires every time. Sorry, I could not tell you about the D7000 compatibility.SEAN M : Yes it works with D7000TONY W : I do not have a 7000 so I cant say....it works fine on my older canon but not my 5D

I love cactus - gotta know the boundries

Cactus v4 is now one generation old but imho they work great. I have read a lot of good and bad experiences with details missing -- my experience is that they always work when I use recently charged aaa batteries. If they fail, I have found it is a battery issue. When on a budget, I can work with this . . . when I need them, they work. Also, I don't use hot shoe connections -- gotta use sync port/cord to flash or adapter to speedlight. (I give then 4 starts "That's Good Stuff" because is there anything out there that is "perfect") Thanks Adorama --- you guys are good!

Good Value!

I use the V4 trigger to trigger my speedlights when I'm doing studio photography. The V4 trigger works reliably and is a great trigger for the money. The only thing that I don't like about the V4 is that the battery compartment door comes off too easily.

Good Buy

Pretty good wireless receiver, and much cheaper than bother the v5 and PocketWizard. Get these while they're still available, because I doubt Cactus will make competing products even with the price difference. Make sure to test them before the warranty expires, though. Of three I ordered (one with the transmitter and two extras), one had the "will not work unless transmitter antenna is physically touching the receiver" issue documented in some of the negative reviews, but the other two worked great. Adorama replaced it post haste, and the replacement worked great. I like the DIP switches instead of the v5's "channel wheel"- DIP switches are harder to accidentally change. One minor gotcha- if you're setting your triggers for something other than the default channel, make sure you set all your new ones to that channel as well.

yes. it works with your camera and flash

Listen. This is a FANTASTIC product for its price. It works. So don't ask the question "will this work for my 'such and such' camera and my 'this or that' flash. But in case you do the answer is an enthaustic "YES!" ASSUMING YOUR CAMERA HAS A HOTSHOE FOR A FLASH AND SO DOES YOUR FLASH. ! But seriousley, if your flash does not have a hot shoe then what the frack is the point? Though does also have a cord to attach to studio strobes. So that is something. I love it, I use it, it works.

I like my Cactus!

If you don't have the $ to go all out on Pocket Wizard, this is a good bridge until you get there. I've dropped mine many times, and we can still get it to work. Good product!

Love the price and quality!

The Cactus Wireless Flash Receiver V4 works with Wireless Flash Trigger unit V4 when the transmitter is activated. Several flash units work together to help fill in shadows and improve the evenness of lighting.

You can use as many flashes as you wish as long as you have enough receivers. Simply attach the hot shoe of the external flash to that of the receiver, or use the flash's connection cable to connect the receiver and the flash.

With Cactus wireless flash trigger, you can place the flash at different angles and distances from the object. This is particularly useful for portrait and product photography. Most importantly, without the need to connect the flash by wire or cable, you can move the flash to anywhere that produces the best lighting to the object you shoot. Flexibility provides you with the best result. The innovative standing design allows major portable flash unit to sit securely on it without a separate light stand.

The receiver, once it picks up the signal emitted from the transmitter when shutter is pressed, will trigger off the external flash unit. Highest responding time is 1/1000s (actual sync speed varies from 1/125s to 1/600s depending on the sync speed limit of the camera system).
