Another great Canon product. Super fast recycling times. A true work horse for studio and on the go. I purchased 2, getting 2 more.

Bought EL-1 to replace 600EXII-RT. It is wonderful! Will probably purchase another to have as back-up. Although they?re a little pricey, buy one. You won?t regret it!

Big step forward over my 580 MkII. It is quite a bit larger so that takes a bit of getting used to, but the performance makes up for the size

I took the plunge and purchased this flash as an upgrade to the 600EXII-RT. 1st use was at a 6 hour event that included outdoor and indoor locations with varying lighting. I was thoroughly impressed at how the flash could easily keep up with 12 fps and maintain the same light levels. Never did the flash have to stop and cool down. This outperforms the 600 quite handily. Battery life was also great. I took around 600 flash photos (not all at full power, and I still have 4 bars on the battery indicator. E-TTL II works wonderfully, applying just the perfect amount of flash, even as fill-flash for backlit scenes. I also found the modeling lamp useful as a video light in a pinch. Not designed for this use, but I was able to video a single subject on the dancefloor quite well. The flash is very robust as well, and I can rest assured a spilled drink or light rain won't hurt it. Overall, I'm very pleased with this high-end flash!

For years now I have wondered why Canon didn?t have a solid flash. Over hearing, missed flashes, lack of water sealing for even light rain let alone a surprise downpour. Well the wait is over. The battery fits the EOS R system charger for the battery and comes with one too. Now for the flash, it?s larger than the 600 series flash so likely heavier but not ever having to carry back up AA?s is a plus. I know I needed it for a wedding at a venue with a notorious dark reception location. Not disappointed. Solid performance. 25+ straight fires with no misfire for a bouquet toss. Dance floor was dark even with the DJ?s lights and got all those as well. On my R5 is was simply fantastic. I should check on my 5DM4 to make sure it?s equally great but don?t know why it wouldn?t be. I did try to use it as a trigger for my 600 flash but was unable to do it so that may take some more reading up on. Amazon got it to me in 2 days!

It?s a masterpiece. A bit heavy but worth it for the insane versatility this thing has.

Pros: - much faster recycle time, can keep up with high fps shots for longer that 600 II; - much better rear screen (but you would need to get used to the significantly changed menu/button layout); - supposedly better weather sealing; - modeling LEDs; - slim diffuser and gels compared to 600 series (clips are shorter); - vertical pouch is now more useable, it has much better organized internal compartments than square 600 series one (for example, you can now pull mini-stand and gels/diffuser without pulling the flash first). - much bigger mini-stand provides increased stability. Cons: - It is buliker and slightly heavier than 600 II, weight balance may be shifted up with lighter camera, but the battery itself (109g without protector) is actually 13g less than a set of 4 NiMH batteries); - expensive, and the battery is also expensive. I have not tested it under extreme conditions, don't know how efficient the cooling is. And you may need new third party diffusers/attachments - its head is much bigger. Feature wise it is 5 star, but its price is 1 star, therefore 4 star total.

It better be made of gold to be be nearly double the price or their previous flashes. I get it comes with batteries but dang. (This is coming from a photographer that owns 11 600s.) Is it worth double be able to get less power out of the flash? I think ill stick with a ND to cut the output for 50c ? I guess time will tell - personally for double the price I'll stick with the 600s till the price drops 4-500. I am interested- can I control zoom of remote flashes? Whats the output vs the 600ii? Have you improved the HSS so theres less output loss with increase in shutter speed? Would love to test one out.... but to buy 2 or buy another r6. That is the question.
