Avoid at all costs

Do not buy this- save yourself the headache, and get the IP-1000 if you can afford it. If not, I strongly advise avoiding the Canon PTZ system altogether. We purchased this controller to go with our 4x CR-N500's. We are using this in a television studio, and it has been nothing but disappointing. Our issues are entirely with the touch interface- I don't know who thought this would be an acceptable way to control PTZ cameras, but they must have little to no experience working in a professional studio/broadcast setting. During a production, camera operators need to be looking at their shots, not at the controller to ensure they hit the right button! Physical buttons are a MUST, and Canon clearly realized this at some point, because they now offer the IP-1000, which has physical buttons like every other PTZ controller on the market. (That model does, however, cost DOUBLE what similar controllers from Panasonic and others go for) I am a lifelong Canon user, and pushed hard to have my studio purchase $20k in Canon PTZ's when we upgraded. At that time (Summer 2023) this was the only controller Canon offered for their PTZ cameras. Within 6 months of our purchase, the new IP-1000 controller was brought to market. We would have gladly purchased that unit (despite it being 5x the cost) had we not already spent the $1000 on this useless controller.

Super disappointing.

I was going to leave two stars, but honestly. Canon should refund everyone who purchased one of these in the last decade. Where to begin: 1. It doesn't have an HDMI out, or any video switching capabilities, it is purely a PTZ controller (yes, the same functionality you can do FOR FREE with a stream deck and the web interface on each camera. It really is an overprice and extremely limited joystick. 2. Huge disadvantage. There's a "trace" button. Basically, you can record a cameras movement and play it back, but when you do, it freezes the interface. You can't switch to another camera, you can't start planning your next move, you either cancel the "trace" playback to get back operation or wait until it finishes. What moron thought of this? I mean, it actually behaves like a PC from 1994. 3. To change cameras you have to touch a tiny section of the screen, half the time it doesn't register, but this means that you also have to look down every single time you want to change cameras or run a preset. 4. No other video output options. This doesn't even have an NDI passthru so you can toggle the cameras through the device. It doesn't even have an output if you want to view the device on a larger screen. It is a huge waste of money. You are better off buying another camera using VDMX and a stream deck with a playstation controller to do the same exact thing (but you'll get more functionality out of the playstation controller). This is a disappointment and canon should be ashamed.
