Shopper : there is off the market third party filter holders and filters ...slightly bigger filters and don't fit the standard cokin holder. The original hood is a tad too small for the third party filter holder. is this the hood that fits those tad bigger filter holders ?DAVID M : Your answer has been submitted: "Honestly, I don't know. However, I can tell you right off the bat, trying to make things fit from two different companies requiers gaffers tape. It's like putting a Chevy engine into a Toyota. If you really need a hood on your third party filter system, make it. Black card stock, or the black side of matt board, cut it to fit, then use gaffers (black duct tape) tape to adhere it to the filter holder. The idea behind hoods is to not allow light from whatever direction it's causing glare. If you don't have the right pieces fitting properly, you might have light leaking in from gaps. I have this hood in question and it fits the "P" series filter holder snuggly without gaps. It hangs out more in my bag than on the lens. If there's too much light above or to the side causing glare, I use my hand to shade the lens/filter. All in all, I'd stick with one brand or the other. Cokin filters, holders, and rings are really good for its price. Dave M. Commercial Photographer Salinas CA"DAVID M : Honestly, I don't know. Cokin filters, holders, and rings are really good for its price. Dave M. Commercial Photographer Salinas CADAVID M : Personally I would stick with Cokin filters. Reason, Cokin designs its filters to fit snuggly into its holders. This keeps any ambient light from entering the lens via the holder, however, if the slightly bigger third party filters fit well enough to not allow any unwanted light through gaps, then use them if you want. If you still have any concerns, I'd just stick with cokin filters. They're really good filters and holders for the price. I use the Cokin filter system/s with only black and white film. With digital or color film I use polarizers and also apply certain filter effects in PS. Dave M. Commercial Photographer, Salinas CAHARVEY L : I am not sure what the person is looking for, but here is a response that may be of help. * My main experience is with the very large Cokin X system, which is now a curiosity. * I very much like the folding hood of Cokin sizes P and X. However ... * Unfortunately, there is no clear standard for the rectangular filters like Cokin. * Other possibilities are Lee and Formatt; they are of different sizes, but I don't recall the direction. I have no experience with either one. * Strong word of caution: The plastic (or "resin" i.e. not glass) filters are of very mixed quality. For long focal lengths, i.e. 200 mm and beyond, the Cokin filters are simply poor. With care one may find a sweet spot on the filter that is good (it is longer than the lens is wide). However, there are bad spots that can turn a 300 mm $3,000 view camera lens into a Holga! Things get worse like the square of the focal length. Caution! I have checked and marked the good spots of the Cokin X filters that I have, but I seldom use them. * I presume that the Formatt filters, which are glass, may be much better, being intended for professional video work (and much more expensive), but I have no experience with them. They are too small for the X Cokin system and too large for the P Cokin system. * This mismatch of sizes is infuriating. If you have invested in the Cokin system -- or any single system -- you are stuck. Bad bananas! Graf von Foto

Cikin Modular Hood

Product is quite fragile, slight over pressure will cause it to crack, would prefer if it were made of metal.

Must have addition to the "P" system

Avoid the dreaded glare! Must have add on for Cokin "P" system. Segmented approach (stack up 1, 2 or 3 as needed) adapts to all lenses from wide angle to telephotos.

Practical device.

When using the Cokin system, this device not only will shield the lens from glare, but also afford some protection from finger smudges on the filter, etc. I would have given it 5 stars if the hood was a longer, or if 2 sections were included in the kit.
