Easy to use camera with options to set different standard settings. It makes it easy to use for dental and facial photos in a dental office. Love how tough it is too. No worrying about staff dropping and breaking. Lightweight with quick focus makes training easier too.

I am extremely disappointed in my recent experience with Olympus. In the month of July I planned two dive trips to the Bahamas, so I treated myself by upgrading from my beloved TG5 Underwater camera to the new TG6. On the second day of the first trip the camera began malfunctioning and by the end of the trip it clearly had water damage and stopped working altogether. Because I have previously owned the same camera, just an older model, I know the precautions to take before using in the water (making sure all latches are closed AND locked) and I am confident that the water damage in this camera was due to a manufacturing error, not an error on my behalf. After returning from my first trip with few pictures, I emailed Olympus and did not receive a response. The next day I called customer service, and was told my only option is to ship it to a service center. This means that I will not be able to have a working camera for my upcoming trip either. I am extremely disappointed in both the quality of my camera and the quality (or lack thereof) in customer service on Olympus' end. After using my TG5 for so many years, I had no doubt that I would be an Olympus customer for life, but this recent experience has convinced me otherwise. I do not recommend purchasing the TG-6 camera or from Olympus at all.

I love my T6. I do a majority of underwater, but use out of the water as well. It takes great pictures. I have owned other underwater cameras & researched prior to purchasing this one. I am very happy with my T6. It is worth the money.

For all of this camera's wonderful features, when familiarizing myself with it I soon discovered that there was no way to set the shutter speed, other than indirectly through aperture and ISO. That's a distinct shortcoming. If the camera can have an Aperture priority setting, it should also have a Shutter priority setting. Unfortunately, I never really got a chance to explore its possibilities. My primary motivation for buying it was for a planned trip to Hawaii, to use for underwater shots on snorkeling trips. I was no sooner off the boat and into the water than I somehow dropped it, and we were never able to find it again (despite the red color, clear waters, 20-30 ft. depths and my belief that I had the wrist strap around my wrist; somehow, it was suddenly gone...). I would suggest that, at the very least, OM Systems provide an option of an attachable float that would prevent the camera from sinking (if not build that function into the camera) ? something that, in retrospect, I wish I'd figured out how to provide myself. But at this point, all my memories of snorkeling the tropical reef are the pictures that I didn't get...

The TG-6 is an excellent camera that produces great images when the lens and the back display are not fogged up by condensation on the inside of the camera. I used it while snorkeling in Hawaii and an hour into the snorkel trip the back display panel developed condensation on the inside making it difficult/impossible to view the potential subjects. The next day while ziplining the lens and back display developed condensation about two hours into the trip. Fortunately I had my old TG-5 with me and it performed perfectly under the same conditions. I just received my TG-6 back from the Olympus repair shop and they said the camera was fine and should perform in this manner. That response was very disappointing as there are some real improvements in the TG-6 that I really like but it will be hard to trust the camera as I missed some critical shots while in Kauai due to the frequent internal condensation.

This is an excellent camera! I took it diving in the Blue Hole in Belize, and it did great at depth. I do recommend getting an alternative light source if you?re doing deep diving, but this was pretty great.

After having owned a Canon Powershot D10 for about a decade (2010-2020), we decided to upgrade to Olympus Tough TG6, intending to use it for our long-distance hiking trips. The Olympus Tough TG6 was advertised as rugged, but it failed halfway on our first 300-mile hiking trip, leaving us unable to record the amazing vistas we hiked through along the Pacific Crest Trail / John Muir Trail. The camera was draining the battery quickly, and intermittently failed to turn on even with a fully charged battery. After returning from our trip in summer 2020, we contacted Olympus support and sent in the TG6 for repairs. The repair department instructed us to be careful with the camera, implying that we had somehow damaged it, even though we took good care of camera. And they instructed us to wrap the camera in a protective sleeve they provided. Next summer, 2021, we took the camera on our 300+ mile hike in the Klammath Mountains. Unfortunately, the camera failed again shortly after the start of our trip, leaving us with no way to record our special memories. After this trip, we contacted Olympus again. They said that the warranty had expired and that they could not replace the camera or offer a refund. Instead, they offered to repair the camera for $180 . In summary - the Olympus TG6 is marketed falsely as being tough. Also, Olympus customer service failed to come through in dealing with this apparent design or manufacturing defect.

I bought this camera for my daughter?s birthday (she turned 9). It has been great for her. We?ve already gotten some great shots and video in the pool as well as a sightseeing day trip. The camera has performed well so far (one week in) and we are pleased. It is easy for her to use but also has some advanced functions for me to play with.

The Olympus Tough TG-6 is a great, compact, point and shoot camera for almost any situation. The camera is excellent for underwater photography. It even has GPS and a compass.

I have been using the TG-6 for over a month, mostly checking its capabilities. I have equipped it with a modified Arca-Swiss body plate so that I can mount it in my regular supports. I have purchased a TCON-T01 and a FL-600R so that the Olympus RC TTL system incorporated into the TG-6 could TTL control a reasonable above-water flash. I am not using the camera underwater. My primary working camera system has been Nikon for many years (I no longer use emulsion, and no longer use any medium or larger format still camera). As the TG-6 has a 12 Mpix sensor, similar in pixel count to what I had in a Nikon D2 and D300 that did produce client-satisfying images, as the TG-6 will produce a raw image file (ORF, not NEF ? I always shoot raw), and as it small and ruggedized to take into situations I would not want to risk my current primary body plus lenses (a gripped Nikon D850 plus lenses), I bought one. Observations: Despite lacking a manual mode in which one may set aperture and shutter using auto ISO to compensate for the lighting, under appropriate lighting and subject, and using professional workflow on the ORF files, it produces images as good as what I got from 12 Mpix Nikon. I have used the camera in several modes, including macro with the TCON-T01. The camera does have a double latch mechanism on the doors that also have seals; this both provides for sealing but also eliminates accidental door opening and water, etc, intrusion. It does have focus stacking in macro mode, a feature to improve detail with shallow depth of field, another feature shared with professional bodies. This works reasonably well with an appropriate support and macro rail (I have this all using Arca-Swiss style attachments, another reason for an Arca-Swiss camera/body plate). Issues: The onboard flash is of little to no use in most circumstances. I have taken a long (lens foot) plate, added a narrow Arca-Swiss style clamp on one end (to secure the body plate) and a clamping cold shoe on the other end of the plate to allow the FL-600R to be secured when I want flash. The Olympus RC flash system is not a true wireless (radio or infrared) system ? the front LED lamp on the FL-600R flashes at approximately 1 second intervals when in RC mode. I have not found any way to do exposure compensation in RC mode with micro so as to provide more light onto the background; Olympus FL RC controls are a different subject than these comments a require a separate review. However, the RC TTL mode does work. There is no outdoor daylight backscreen shade available ? no ?barn doors? or other shade so that one can clearly see the backscreen with high ambient lighting. The camera battery does not take very many images ? typically 30 before I see the orange battery indicator and need to put a freshly charged battery into the camera. I use an external charger, not the in-camera charger. The 40.5 mm thread to camera lens bayonet adapter is made of plastic. I have two: one to adapt a standard 40.5 mm UV filter plus rubber hood plus lens cap to the camera when the TCON-T01 is not in use, and another fixed to the TCON-T01 thus eliminating the need to thread an adapter lens onto the camera. It would be much better if all of the bayonet assembly were made of metal, either stainless steel, monel, or titanium to maintain the rugged corrosion, etc., water resistance of the camera. The TCON-T01 easily can have a front lens cap; with the bayonet adapter, I have not found any purpose-designed rear lens cap. I use a soft microfibre bag over the rear of the lens with the adapter installed; over this, I use a USA sized rubber plumbing waste pipe cap removing the stainless steel hose clamp that comes with such a cap. I picked a size by testing various size caps to find one that has just enough friction when placed over the microfibre bag; the fit must not a hard push-on lest the plastic bayonet adapter be damaged. Olympus should introduce a purpose-made cap that goes over the bayonet adapter when the adapter is left on a lens. It is too time consuming to screw a lens onto the adapter with every use ? leaving the adapter mounted on a lens makes this into a typical bayonet attachment to the camera. Despite these issues, it overall is a decent camera given both the size and rugged construction, and most of all because it will produce a raw (ORF) image file that can be corrected in workflow. Because of lack of a proper manual exposure system, not all images and all subjects work.

I am a home inspector and require cameras to provide clear, concise images to help each home buyer understand the specific details of the home they are purchasing. After a decade of using Canon G series products I ordered one of these TG-6 cameras. Pros: I don't have to wait on a lens to cycle, It produces fantastic close up images, the camera adjust to lighting, (led, fluorescent. outdoors, etc.) far better than the Canon products I used previously. Impressive battery life (I take an average of 300 plus shots daily). One battery easily handles the load. It seems to focus far faster than the cameras I used previously, The weather sealing is essential for my application, rain, cold, dust, etc. Cons: The telephoto feature does not have the reach of my previous cameras. I plan on trying the accessory lens to pull in images at a distance and hopefully overcome that issue. The strap supplied with the camera is ......puny and limp. I would prefer something with a little more heft since I run my wrist through on every shot so I don't drop and damage the camera. After using it daily for two weeks and cycling through roughly 4.000 shots in all types of weather dusty attics and crawl spaces I am pleased and impressed with this camera.

I love this camera! I use it mainly for underwater photography. It is compact and simple no messing with an underwater case for every dive. I did recently purchase the underwater case so that I can take it below 50 ft and start using lights. But, if you want a compact no fuss camera this one takes unbelievable photos as is, especially macro. All my friends ask me what I use. We have a TG-5 and a TG_6. I use it for beach photography too because I don't have to worry about it getting splashed.

I like it. One feature I wish it had was a viewfinder in addition to the screen. It would be easier the frame the shot as sometimes when shooting outside the sun brightness interferes with the screen.

I returned the next day when i bought it, no different that the TG-5, just bigger screen in the back, wow big improvement there Olympus, the specs are the same, as a first time camera then yes its good and awesome, im not understandign why the TG-6 came out beign that is the same but bigger screen, no new features or settngs.

I was hesitant to purchase at first given the price compared to other cameras in this category and my previous sport cameras. I have had it for two months now and I am very happy with my TG6. I find the controls and ability to manually set shooting parameters great. I haven't had a chance to use underwater as yet but expect similar performance.

No problem with picture quality or the camera quality in general. However their are some very annoying problems: Very short battery life when filming in 4K Button to start and stop videos is very tiny ( a very small recessed red dot ) that makes it very hard to stop and/or start videos. It would be much better if the shutter button could be programed to start and stop videos when it is in the video mode. The battery compartment and the USB compartment doors have very very tiny slides and safety catch that makes it very hard to open and even harder to close. A big time waster when you want to switch out the battery for example. The plastic protective cap over the camera lens costs 50.00 EXTRA. It should be free or at the most maybe 12.00 The viewfinder is easily scratched since in is flat and not at all protected on a camera that is supposed to be tough

I have been using the TG5 and when I found out Olympus was going out of the camera business, I grabbed the TG6. I?ve used the TG5 for a couple of years and have had excellent results with it. I am not an experienced photographer, but my pictures come out great! When I?m able to get back in the water again, I will start using the TG6 and use the TG5 as a backup. Highly recommend this camera!

I got this to replace a TG-830 that I loved until it developed an electrical issue that I could not get repaired. So far the transition has been seamless and the TG-6 is a wonderful camera. I like the idea of additional lenses and I may invest in one down the road.

I bought this camera for an upcoming trip to Alaska. My friend recommended this camera because it is used by personnel living at the South Pole. So far it takes amazing photos and the macro mode is amazing! I love taking underwater photography photos so I will soon purchase the underwater housing. I love that you don't have to carry a separate charger for the battery, the USB cable just plugs straight into the camera!

very nice little camera a far improvement over my Stylus tough 8000 however I do have some criticisms. 1.The accessory lens barrier should be included or at least be reasonable to purchase $49?? and it doesn't work with the silicone jacket really!! you should just provide a basic lens cap for the basic camera as sold. 2. exposure knob at top right is easy to accidentally change while handling camera during shooting. constantly have to check it. should have some kind of lock down for it. 3. matrix metering is OK but should also have center weighted option too. My Nikon coolpix has a much better metering system. 4. flash is weak doesn't seem to have good coverage overall. I shoot small rooms and the Nikon coolpix does a much better job covering areas and a cheaper camera too. tg-6 has hot spots and fall off. The Nikon auto focus in low light is better as well. But all in all it's a nice camera. I considered the w300 Nikon but decided this was a much better camera despite it's shortcomings. taking the strong points of both cameras and putting them together would be a real winner maybe the w400 Nikon would do just that. If there is going to be a new updated version. Thank you
Brian

Well built, as is typical with Olympus products. I do have a couple of "howevers". The first one is that I found the picture quality to be seriously less than either my E-M5 or E-M5 Mk II. The second is if you have hands that no longer work as they used to, the small size of the dials present a problem. I shot several rounds to test the camera but in the end wound up returning it. Still in all, if you want a sophisticated point and shoot get the TG-6.

This is an excellent camera
By CHRIS P.
The TG-6 is an excellent camera that lives up to the "tough" in its name. I took some awesome pictures out in the surf and it's nearly the perfect beach camera. The video is crystal clear, like you can reach out and touch it. This was going to be my severe weather camera. A couple minor dings. For a tough country camera the strap could be better. And the default pictures settings are dreadful. I think that's why so many people rate it poorly. A little tweaking and you'll get excellent pictu...

Perfect for me
By David R.
Perfect camera for me, as I needed something waterproof that supports high humidity environments.
The latest release from Olympus is part high-end camera, and part utility tool: the perfect combination for adventure photographers. The new Olympus Tough TG-6 features a 12-megapixel sensor, up to 4x optical zoom — with maximum 8x zoom thanks to the digital teleconverter — and 4K movie recording.
