Does exactly what it says and is sturdy

Overall it?s a great product and does exactly what it says. It?s sturdy and gets you film borders. Your film does need to be relatively flat for it to hold well and not pop out of the film holder.

Minor flaws detract from overall performance, but performance is excellent nonetheless.

I have mixed feelings on this, but primarily positive. I got this device because the holder included with the Epson V600 is fairly lame: it has really thin edges that hold the negative - meaning that the negative gets misaligned really easily while setting up, and can even misalign just by closing the top of the holder, which gets frustrating. The DigitaLIZA is far superior in that regard. Very easy to place the negative, and it doesn't move while closing it up. The problem is the overall 'idea' of how it does what it does. It's hard to describe unfortunately. The metal backplate has no specific portion of it meant for releasing it from the magnets. You just have to pick one of the small 'jogs' in the edge to get a fingernail underneath to pry it up. It can actually be a little painful doing so. It would make a lot more sense to have a tab that extends beyond the outer edge of the frame so that you could more easily 'lever' it apart. Either that, or use slightly less powerful magnets - its held together as if it's going to support a pound of weight in the negative area, which is about 1,000 times more than it actually supports! However, aside from that annoyance, it works very well at what it's for. The concept of 'squeezing' the negative between two flat surfaces then removing those two surfaces is excellent. You can pry off the metal backplate, dust that side of the negative, put the backplate back, then pry off the top and dust that. The negative lies quite flat and is supported while you sweep the brush over it or blow some air over it - which is virtually impossible with the default negative holder on the V600. So in that respect, it's a clear 'win'. They really just need to employ much, much weaker magnets. That would also make it less costly to manufacture, so it'd be a win for both the manufacturer and the consumer.

Lomography carrier better, less flimsy than Epson supplied

Really nice piece of hardware. Using it with an Epson V700. I was originally concerned that the fixed height of the film off of the glass would be out of focus. Some tests show that it’s a little sharper than the supplied Epson mounts. I bought so anti-Newton ring mounts a while back, but they were fiddly and introduced 2 more surfaces to collect dust on. I made a jig that keeps this carrier in the center of the scanning bed from 1/4” black foam core board. Satisfied.

Worth the wait

While it took a while for my order to be completed the wait was worth it. The Scanning Mask does a very good job of holding my 120 negatives in place so they can be copied. I am very happy with my purchase.

Much Better than the one that comes with the Epson V600

Th product over all is much better than what came with my Epson V600 to scan 120 negatives. My film was not super curled or anything but I did have an issue once or twice that it didn't lay as flat as I wanted. I give it a solid 4.5/5 though, worth the money for someone trying to scan at home and get some good results!

Worth the wait

By Barry W.

While it took a while for my order to be completed the wait was worth it. The Scanning Mask does a very good job of holding my 120 negatives in place so they can be copied. I am very happy with my purchase.

Scanning special formats such as panoramic images and overlapping exposures can be tricky. Not anymore with the DigitaLIZA 120 Scanning Mask! Used with a modern flatbed scanner, it holds your 120 negatives in place to easily scan Lomographic formats. The DigitaLIZA's modern magnetic mechanism holds the sensitive negatives in place so that you can scan them conveniently - in one endless film strip! It's the first of its kind and compatible with most flatbed scanners available in the market.
