The Datacolor LightColor Meter Advantage: Measure Light + Color for Outstanding Results!
Why measure both light and color temperature? Because it's more precise than just light metering alone. Light color temperature affects your white balance, so not adjusting for it from the start can leave you with unexpected and unwanted color results after shooting, with lots of time-consuming editing to follow. The LightColor Meter lets you make scene lighting and camera setting adjustments before you shoot, streamlining your workflow, giving your more time to explore your creativity.
Better Than Your In-Camera Meter
Why manually meter instead of just relying on your in-camera meter? Your in-camera meter uses object metering, which refers to measuring the light that is reflected from the subject to the camera. Using the LightColor Meter allows you to measure both the direct light falling on a subject as well as scattered light, providing measurements independent of the degree of reflection from the subject. This is particularly helpful when shooting high-contrast subjects.
The object metering found in your in-camera meter provides an exposure average. In high-contrast shots, such as those with a very dark or bright background, this exposure average can result in the subject appearing either underexposed or overexposed. The LightColor Meter provides you with more precise exposure data for greater exposure and creative control.
