Dracast LED2000 Kala Bi-Color LED 2-Light Kit

Upon opening this product I was super impressed with the packaging and the molded heavy duty case these light have came in. The case has 7 total locking tabs, three on the front and two on each side and a total of 6 holes at the tab location to install a small light duty lock. the locking holes are not big enough to install a larger lock. The lights are large and super bright, The dimmer color adjustment knobs are easy to reach and comfortable to adjust. This is a very well build light. They come with Stands but I would recommend using heavier stands. I fear the stands that come with the light lit can easily tip over if the stand is extended fully at 6 ft. They are good stands but i font feel that the base legs are long enough to extend to what i felt would be a more secure stance. i used a Stand with a magic arm to help support the stand so it does not get knocked over. if you open the feet all the way then the stand it not tall enough and shoots directly at your subject and you cannot adjust the light downward if you have the Barn doors on. The Barn doors are awesome, flexible, they cover the entire light some spillage form the sides but i used gaffer tape to cover any spillage if needed. I really love this product. i have the smaller S series that i have been using that i take everywhere. have not had a chance to use the V-mount battery if your mobile, but will need to either purchase V-mount batteries or use an adapter to support NPF batteries, i am not sure of how they will perform with the NPF style. may work on the S-series but may require a V-mount to use on these larger lights. I also do not currently use a DMX connection, but will once i relocate into a larger studio. The power supply connection is a twist lock type, very secure so i don't feel as if you can just pull out like the S-Series if you accidentally trip on cable. I love this product, excellent quality.

I'm a fan of Dracast daylight LED's and before purchasing this kit have owned four of their Plus series panels. They are all solid metal housings and a good value. The Kala series lights seem to be made with the same actual LEDs as the Plus lights but cost - in the case of the 1x2' - less than half as much! The Kala is lightweight, packs easily, has DMX (and some kind of wireless) control. The 2-light kit, which includes a huge hard case and light stands, is cheaper than buying two individual instruments! I'm not using the case, which is massive and has wheels, but it's great for storage (the Kalas do fit perfectly into a Pelican 1650 case FYI). As for the lights themselves, be advised that there seem to be machining issues with the threads for the thumbscrews which hold the plastic diffusion screen in place on the lights. I have removed the screws on my instruments because I want to be able to easily remove or replace the diffusion, but it was not without some difficulty, and I didn't have any luck putting one of the screws back into place. As for light quality, Dracast daylight panels are very close to 5600K accuracy but a TOUCH green, as with many daylight LEDs. My fix is to use Rosco Naked Pink gel; It's roughly a 1/16 minus green.
