Questions & Answers

STEPHEN F : Will this panning base work with a Manfrotto BeFree tripod?Alin T : Yes. It works with any tripod with removable heads, so it works with the manfrotto befreeSCOTT S : It appears that the Manfrotto BeFree series has a 1/4 inch top screw, and the Feisol PB-70 panning base is designed to work with a 3/8 inch top screw. I use my panning base with an older Manfrotto 290 series tripod that I picked up in used condition. The 290 series has a 3/8 inch top screw. The top screw on the panning base is also 3/8 inch so if the panning base is important to you, then you might want to select a different combination of tripod and head that will work with this panning base. The tripod head I use is an Oben VH-R2 tilt which has an adapter in the base to go from 3/8 inch to 1/4 inch. Thus, you might be able to find adapters to fit the Manfrotto BeFree series as well.JAMEEL H : It should work with any tripod. This screws on a 3/8" stud. In case the tripod has a 1/4", there is a 1/4" to 3/8" adapter that costs a couple of dollars. All tripods have either a 3/8" or 1/4" stud.TIEN P : I think so. Mine is not Manfrotto's, as long the base mount/screw/post fits. That l's all that matters. It may protrudie out a little bit. That may be OK, if you don't mind. In mine case, it fits inside perfectly my Gitzo.
buddy 3 : Will this work with an Oben tripod?DAVID M : Yes, it will work on any tirpod. you do need to be able to adapt to 1/4-20 if your tirpod only excepts standard camera mounting, and also you need to get back for mounting Camera on the PB-70. I have my ball head mounted on the PB-70 so it maintains the set angle when I am Panning: My setup is like this camera on top of ball head, ball head on top of PB70, PB-70 ontop of tripod, tripod Level on ground.MARK D : I think it should work with just about any head that can accept a 1/4" or 3/8" thread (the thing comes with an adapter). I mounted mine on a no-name Chinese tripod that I got at Walmart a long time ago. It works very well to rotate smoothly when taking multiple photos that will be stitched together to make a panorama.JOE B : This rotating base screws into you tripod like any tripod head. It should work with any tripod that has the same 1/4 or 3/8 screw.KENNETH M : I personally don't own an Oben tripod nor have I ever handled one but presuming that an Oben tripod is designed like any other tripod the Feisol PB-70 Panning Base should work with it. The only small problem you can ran into is that the Feisol PB-70 Panning Base has a 3/8" female mounting hole. If the Oben tripod hasn't got a 3/8' screw to attach the Feisol PB-70 Panning Base to but only a 1/4' screw as most tripods have, then you have to get a 1/4' to 3/8' tripod mounting adapter in order to fit both together. A 1/4' to 3/8" tripod mounting adapter you can buy in any photo shop.
Shopper : Does the knob actually rotate the assembly or is it only a set/locking screw?DAVID M : sorry it Took so long To answer, computer trouble. the knob is a locking knob only, but I am quite happy with the unit. i use it every day, I do a lot of pans and it is a great addition to my equipmentPAUL H : Yes, you can use the set screw knob to rotate the camera once it is mounted to a tripod. The lower portion (with the degree index) stays locked to the tripod and everything above that rotates. This is a well made item and it works smoothly.GREGORY J : It is a set/locking screw. A very good one at that!NATHAN H : Yes, you can hold on to the knob to turn the assembly - it is quite solid.MARK D : It does both. Depending on the size/weight of your camera, you may find it easier to rotate this screw, or the camera itself.JOSEF KISSINGER L : Its only a locking screw. Its seems to be of high quality.RANDY L : It is a set screw only, but I would add that the rotation is very smooth, no play at all. I'm very happy with it!

I use it on the my telescope tripod

Nice and smooth, locks firmly with large knob. I bought a cheap knock-off initially and that was a big mistake

Great panning base for landscape and video

This pano base is very smooth when in use with accurate drag adjustment possible. Using the resistance adjustment dial, it can also easily be locked down tightly. This base served me so well after 5+ years that decided to buy a second one to accompany both my new mirrorless/video & MF film landscape camera setups.

It's a great panning tool... Note: it has a constant friction force. It doesn't matter if you turn the screw a little or a lot the ease of panning remains the same.

AWESOME!!!!

This is exactly what I was looking for! My SkyGuider didn't have a way to pan so I was having to move my tripod around to polar align. This thing is very well built and rock solid when locked down!

Adquires "play" with use

Very smooth rotation. However it adquires '' play" after about 1-2 month use.I removed the base and adjusted the screws : the play was gone but returned about 1-2 months later. I need a way to secure the base screws so they do do not become loose. (If you tight them fully then the base doesn't rotate)

Great unit

Great panning base, very well made. I use this with a cheap gimbal head that has a good vertical arm but the panning base wobbles when loose enough to turn. Even adding the price of this to the cost of the gimbal head I have a cheap setup that works as good as more expensive units.

handy to have

Much lighter than a rotator with click stops, the degree markings alone suffice. Price point is very favorable.

ARGH! I lost mine!

I left it in a rental car! I can't live without it! OK I'm being dramatic, but... I use it for the azimuth adjustment on my German Equatorial mount - it's that strong. Oh, it works for panoramic photos too. This device is the absolute best for just rotating something - nothing else - no slop - just rotation. I'm trying to decide whether to buy two or three to replace the one I lost. It may go out of production. Seriously for the size and price, this is it.
