Questions & Answers

Jason D : Did it last?MATT S : I've had the tripod and head system for 6 months. Its very well built and while I do not use it every day I can say that I expect it to last for many many years.ERIC W : It's an amazing tripod, I use it 3-4 times a week. I don't foresee any durability issues. Other people have written how they get 20 years from Gitzo carbon tripods. The one quibble I have with the tripod is the smaller metal foot spikes are a little loose ( the ones which one puts the rubber foot pads on), this is easily remedied with some teflon tape over the threads.Jason D : Why did you pic this one? How well did/does it work? Are/were you happy with the purchase

Nice Tripod

For the price, this should be a well build and sturdy tripod. It is! My other tripod, SLIK 700Pro was 1/8th the price, is two pounds heavier and I have used it for the past 4 years. The reason for a new tripod...the SLIK couldn't get to ground level as it was restricted by the length of the center tube. My work tripod, Manfrotto 055xprob also gets down to ground level, but seems clumky in converting the center tube to a horizontal and also seems a bit unstable when compared to both the SLIK and Gitzo. I still fell a little crazy for spending over $900 for a tripod as an amateur, but it will last me a lifetime AND it had a $150 rebate. The off center head will take sometime to get used to, but is solid in both control and knobs.

Good solid workhorse BUT....

I purchased this tripod with one thing in my thoughts..macro. The problem I have is getting the camera in the right position to photograph say a dragonfly in a bush its difficult to set-up close to a bush as the legs will not let you into the right position, but with this tripod the boom goes into the bush at any angle. While setting up you may scare the insect off but I have found in many cases they come back & if you are already set-up ... click. you have your photo, all you need is patients. The only reason I did not give this product 5 stars was because of its weight.
