HGST makes the best drives, and this drive continues the tradition. The Touro I ordered was a Platinum color and looked good with solid metal build quality. Aluminum top and bottom cases with plastic sides. Very sleek next to my Macbook Pro. One thing I did notice was the drive has no feet or base 'nubs' of any kind to dampen surface shock or protect from scratches. Not a huge deal at all, but I ordered a Seagate Backup Plus Slim Case made of silicon that closely matches the dimensions of this case to give it some bump protection. Whether or not this makes any actual measurable protection is unknown, but it gives me piece of mind! This thing is really fast! By far the fasted portable drive I have used, with real world read speeds averaging 138 mb/sec! (Tested on Blackmagic Disk Speed app). 1tb is perfect for long product or fashion photoshoots where large megapixel and filesize RAWs, plus even bigger layered PSB photoshop files makes for a comfy backup drive, without worrying about running out of working space either. USB 3 and 7200 rpm is how ALL drives should be built! Why are so few portable drive makers doing this?? Lacie and G-tech have some, but not in this price range. Hopefully 5400 rpm stuff will be phased out, especially compared to the new defacto standard of SSDs being primary boot drives. Lacie is over rated crummy garbage. Sorry, but after MANY failed desktop and portable Lacie drives, I just can not keep buying those things. Quality control over at Lacie has been garbage for decades and customer service is totally non existent now. Good riddance! Ok, rant over. My G-Tech desktop drives are excellent and have replaced my Lacies, but I have not tried their mobile drives yet. Guessing they would be good. However, at ~($) for a 138 mb/sec HGST Touro drive, how can I say no? It looks like this drive will become the standard backup drive, and client drive, so I'll be ordering a few more. Something for the future of HGST mobile HDDs could be some sort of custom silicon bumper like the Seagate one I'm stretching over this, or a rugged version would be awesome!
