The Fujifilm XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens is a lightweight, compact and most importantly, Super-Sharp telephoto lens for the Fuji X Mount. As a landscape, wildlife and product photographer, I use it on an X-H2 for landscape and BIF (Bird in Flight) photography, and it excels at both! AF is quite fast, and when the system does acquire a bird or other animal, the lens locks onto it with perfect focus. And with the X-H2 or other body, the lens also works with the 1.4x digital crop, effectively extending its reach even more than the standard APS-C format. The level of sharpness and detail is astounding. Highly recommended!

Ive been a Sony user for many years now and I just got into the Fujifilm system as well. I purchased the XT-5 and the 70-300 f4-5.6 LM OIS wR. The reasons for purchasing the 70-300mm was mostly because of its size and weight with an extended reach using the APSc system. So far I'm not disappointed as the images are very sharp and the close focusing is really quite good. But having a reach of over 420mm with such a small lens is a blessing. I don't like carrying a lot of weight around and this seems perfect when traveling along with the 16-80mm f4.0. The macro capabilities on both these lenses are very good for my needs. I also like aperture rings, although this one is unmarked which is strange, I'd perfer to have it labeled so I don't need to look into the viewfinder to confirm the setting. The lenses is sturdy enough in fact the built is quite good for this price level. I could go with the 100-400 mm but that is a bulky and heavier lense which I have in my sony system. I've heard a lot about Fujifilms color science and I'm not disappointed, the colors coming out of the camera is stellar and seems I don't do too much work in Lightroom and Adobe photoshop with this setup. Very happy and satisfied with this combo. I'm now a Fuji gear believer!

Pros:lightweight and fast Cons: needed more light than I expected. Moved to Nikon system and traded in the lens. Lens did not hold value.

I bought this lens because I live on the Massachusetts coast and more times than not on the coast, things are farther away than anticipated. My Fuji 16-80mm lens works great in some locations but other times, I need the capabilities of a mid range zoom. As I am a lifelong Fuji fan, I opted for this lens. Fuji quality is top of the line. The zoom capabilities are just what I needed. This is the XF Series, so the weather and dust resistance is very important to me. I find the photos are tack sharp and the colors are true. Adorama shipped it promptly and I received it earlier than expected.

This is a great lens. 300mm on a crop body is sufficient for many birding applications. The autofocus is outstanding when the lens is used on a Fuji X-H2s body. It is comparable to Canon autofocus on R cameras. I have yet to use it for sports, but if it works for birds in flight, it will do fine for youth baseball.

I love this lens. The autofocus works very well, the sharpness is excellent throughout the aperture range, and the overall fit and finish is excellent. It makes a great companion to my Fujifilm XT4. I highly recommend this lens for anyone who wants to venture into wildlife photography, as that's what I use it for to great effect.

This lens has been on my radar since purchasing my Fuji body. I've rented it multiple times for various trips and was never disappointed. The reach you get with the compact body is huge plus for landscape and wildlife photography

So happy I made the switch from Canon to FujiFilm. I recently purchased the XT-5 and got this lens, and it is unbelievably amazing especially considering the price. I am by no means a professional photographer, but I took a lot of pictures in the past 35 years, using the Canon and Nikon systems, and let me tell you, the Fujifilm XF 70-300 is on par with many, much more expensive lenses I've used. The absolute perfect hiking, nature and much more lens!

Great lens. Super sharp when it hits. This lens and the the autofocus do love light, so that somewhat of a consideration, especially when using the 1.4x teleconverter.

After trying several settings on hand held XS10 with XF70-300mm I got very good image quality photos of a hummingbird at a feeder. Initially the lens would not always focus properly. Definitely would recommend this lens.

The zoom capabilities of this lens allows you to get nice tight shots without the need to get physically up close to your subject. Something that is important in some situations. I'm really having fun with this lens.

This is a fantastic lens. It is extremely sharp with a usable focal range and aperture. At 300mm, it can focus very closely and is pretty close to macro. As far as I can tell, there are no cons to this lens.

This lens is not perfect, but it is the perfect telephoto zoom for me. I often carry my entire system in a small backpack, and this lens is a perfect, compact, lightweight telephoto for my landscape, wildlife, and even macro needs. It works well with close-up diopter lenses if needed. Others have pointed out in video how fast and reliable the auto focus is. It seems sharp. Color is rich, almost better than my other Fuji lens. OIS makes a big difference. It's weather sealed. And it focuses close. Three of the drawbacks most often mentioned don't really matter to me, and I think they are necessary trade-offs that many photographers will appreciate. First, plastic construction. This is a lens for carrying around, and it would seem to be the only way to keep it from being heavy. It does not feel flimsy at all. Nicer than a similar Canon EF zoom. It operates nicely, and and it is light enough that I actually have it with me when I need it. Second, I had some misgivings about bokeh based on early tests that I saw, but it has not turned out to be an issue. I have not seen the extreme busy bokeh in any images I have made yet. Maybe some of this was an issue only with advance copies provided for testing, or maybe the conditions I usually shoot in just don't lend themselves to it. Where the bokeh has turned out to be busy, conditions are usually not ideal, and there is something else wrong with the image. It has not yet cost me a photograph. Ken Rockwell describes the bokeh as neutral, and that's what I have seen so far. Just what I would expect from a zoom that goes to 300mm and takes 67mm filters. Third, it doesn't have an OIS switch. While I would prefer if it did. I have never once wanted to turn OIS off on this lens. So I am starting to think that it may never really matter. For the price, it is an amazing lens! The only reason I could think of for not getting it, is if you don't need the focal length. And then? why are you reading this review?

Big, but only because I?ve been use to smaller lens (27mm F 2.0 or 50mm F1.4). However, pleased with color. contrast and clarity. I really like this lens. I have had an opportunity to photo a group of 26 people and all was well. Had to get back 40 some feet to include all, but that turned out to be good also. When I zoomed out to 300mm the beauty became clear. I mean clear, sharp, that is!

Very sharp, works perfectly with the 1.4X teleconverter without noticeable image quality reduction. The close focus abilities of this lens are fantastic, especially useful if you don't want to carry a dedicated macro lens along.

My favorite thing about it is the close-focusing capability. Coupled with the XS-10 film simulations, I get gorgeous flower shots. I also get beautiful bird shots, though haven't caught many in flight. But that is a settings issue, I think, and I'm working on it. I also appreciate how light this lens is considering its focal length range, and that it can take a tele extender, which I'll buy eventually. I waited a long time for this lens and it was worth the wait!

A nice, light, reasonably priced, telephoto. I was about to spend twice as much on the XF100-400 f4.5-5.6 but this was money better spent. I?ve used it to shoot Lacrosse games and I?ve been blown away by continuous tracking. Sure I was hunting the action but the lens felt a half step ahead of me. With a neutral density filter I got some great full moon detail. It required some cropping but there?s incredible definition at any magnification. I use it with an XT4 and the twain united are a dream.

I knew the lens had a few pitfalls (sometimes odd bokeh, softness at the long end), but for what it does in such a small, light package Fuji has nailed it. The lens was packed well by Adorama and delivered quickly.

My use confirms all reviews out there: sharp, relatively lightweight & easily packable with OIS and WR, what's not to like? A definite upgrade from the 55-200mm.

I purchased this lens for use with my Fuji X-T3 for travel and nature photography as a possible replacement for my XF 55-200mm, based on its longer maximum focal length and better close focus capabilities. I tested both lenses side by side on a sturdy tripod (at about 3m) and found that the 70-300mm had slightly better resolution and contrast in the middle of the frame than the 55-200 at all overlapping focal lengths. Corner performance wasn't quite as stellar, but the 70-300 at least matched the 55-200. Comparing with the 50-140 the 70-300 also held up pretty well with both lenses wide open, but stopping down the 50-140 2 stops to f5.6 produced better results, particularly in the corners (not surprisingly). I also compared the 70-300 at f5.6 vs the 50-140 f2.8 + 2x tele-converter (i.e. 280 f5.6) and the 70-300 was superior mid-frame and close at the edges. So this new lens is very impressive optically. The compact size and weight of the lens is also wonderful. As specs indicate it is slightly longer and wider than the 55-200, but exactly the same weight. So very portable and easy to carry. The lens does extend a lot when zooming, about doubling in length, but I didn't notice any wobble when the barrel was extended and the lens felt very solid in the hand. In my copy the zoom collar was very tight, requiring a lot of force to turn (too much in my opinion), so zoom creep wasn't an issue. But if the lens does loosen over time the zoom lock button is very well designed. In contrast I found the focus ring far too loose, easily turning with the slightest rub. However, it should be noted that the package I received was damaged in shipping (including the inner Fuji lens box), so it's very possible the zoom collar and focus ring were out of spec, particularly because online reviews have not noted either issue. The OIS system was highly effective in hand-held tests, definitely superior to the 55-200 (and 50-140+2X). I was able to achieve tack sharp photos at 1/30-1/60 at 300mm, but I didn't test at lower shutter speeds. Impressive performance. However, I did find the OIS noise to be very noticeable and somewhat distracting. Lots of high pitched chirps and beeps, unlike the slow steady hum of the 50-140 and 55-200. Overall I found this lens to be superior to the 55-200 (and 50-140+2x) for travel and nature photography, but returned this copy due to the over-tight zoom collar and loose manual focus ring which appeared to be out of spec, likely due to shipping damage.

I've only had this lens for a few weeks so I'm just starting to use it, but so far I am very pleased with the overall sharpness and contrast. In the image attached, it does a nice job with the delicate flower petals as well as the fine snow flakes. I really appreciate the extra reach over my old 55-200, especially since I will not be in the market for a much more expensive, larger, and heavier tele option.

Currently the Best Telephoto Lens for Fujifilm

More practical and less expensive than the XF 100-400mm. Has more range with better IQ than the XF 55-200mm. One of the fastest autofocusing lenses. You really cant go wrong with this lens if you need something to shoot sports/action/wildlife with.

Incredible quality. Takes beautiful images. Feels amazing in hand, with a very smooth zoom. The lens lock is a very nice touch. Love the weather sealing I wish all of their lineup had it. Very happy to have this as an upgrade to my 55-200. And the Macro capabilities are a very welcomed bonus. Would 100% recommend. Just a fantastic lens.
