Questions & Answers

Bob W : Just to be clear, this is a powered hub, right? Then, how long is the power cord and how long is the USB cord that will connect the hub to the computer?JONATHAN R : This is a powered hub and the power cord is about 4 feet long. I haven't measured it recently, this is from memory. It is able to sit on my desk and reach the power strip under the desk that sits on the floor with room to spare.PAUL S : Yes. This is a powered hub. The power cord is about 6 feet long and the USB cord is about 5 feet.ISAAC C : Hi. The power cord is long enough to go from the hub, sitting next to my monitor, to a power strip on the floor. And there's still cord left. The USB cord is not that long. I'm using an extension because my computer is under the desk.GRANT S M : Yes, it's powered. The cord is at least 6' long. I'm not sure if I'm using the original USB cord so I can't answer that. It's connected via a mini USB port not a hardwired cable, so you could purchase a longer USB cable if you needed to.JEFF J : This is a powered hub. The USB Cable is 5 feet long and the power is 6 feet long.CATHY M : It is powered by a usb port on the pc. There is no power cord, the usb cord is about three feet long. I purchased it for the compact flash reader. The pins are very cheap and broke in the first couple of uses. Otherwise the hub has been ok.LIANG P : This is a powered hub with power adapter included. both USB and power cord is fairly long and good quality. I had no problem with plug in everything. I don't have the exact length, but should be no problem for typical setup. I used mine to expand my laptop's USB port count, the USB cable is A to mini B type.
Dean S : My computer doesn't have a high speed USB port. Does this enable to connect USB 2.0 devices to my computer through my standard speed USB ports?ISAAC C : Hi Dean. Most USB 2.0 devices are USB 1.0/1.1 backward compatible. This device will work with your standard speed USB port but you won't get the speed of a USB 2.0 port. Hope this help. Regards from Costa Rica.JOHN J : Copied from an article on "EverythingUSB" dot com. The vast majority of USB 2.0 devices will work on older PCs and Macs. None should flat-out fail unless there are other issues with the system. Hi-Speed USB devices will revert to Full-Speed operation when connected this way. Understand that Hi-Speed is at least ten times faster than Full-Speed in actual operation, so the speed difference is quite noticeable - unless you have never experienced Hi-Speed, of course. When it comes to USB hub compatibility between USB 2.0 and USB 1.1, here some facts: A powered hub is always preferable to unpowered. USB hub ports are not as capable or flexible as real PC ports so it's best not to expect the world of them. USB 1.1 (obsolete) hubs will work fine on USB 2.0 ports, but they cannot utilize USB 2.0 capabilities. They will default to slower speeds. Hi-Speed and Full/Low-Speed USB devices can coexist nicely on USB 2.0 hubs. Connecting such a hub to a USB 2.0 port is recommended. USB 2.0 hubs can be used on older USB 1.1 computers. Although it is said that you can cascade up to 4 hubs, problems may start to arise after two hubs, it's best to minimize hub usage if possible. Many USB devices don't work well on hubs. Cameras, scanners and especially USB drives are known to have problems with hub connectivity. Remember that active USB extensions are really just one-port hubs. As you can see, there are very few issues (if any) to be concerned about when mixing USB types. If the system and devices are healthy, it should be a no-brainer to connect any USB device - provided that you follow manufacturer?s instructions.CATHY M : The usb ports work fine, I primarily purchased it to be able to use the cf card slot on my desktop. The pins on the cf slot failed immediately, but all of the other ports work fine. Some hardware requires that you use the usb port that is on the pc directly, but that is not a problem with the hub.JEFFRY B H : It will connect and run at the speed of the computer's slower USB port.

Works, but Poor Design

The product works well, but the design is not great. I have to fiddle around with SD cards for a little bit before I can get it to work. You not only have to flip the SD card upside down, but the slot is very close to the table top (less than 1/4"), so you need one hand to hold the card, and another to hold the hub. It does work, but design was a bit of an afterthought.
