Does the Job

Of course I have I have a desktop. And of course, I had a laptop. So why did I need another one? When I am at the office, I have teams of consultants coming in to do things for us. They go to meeting rooms all over the building, and need different passwords to log into the Internet, log into the intra-net, and access the security portal. They never remember them; thus I need a laptop to lug from floor to floor to change passwords. Sometimes I am in the field. I need a laptop to rush from one interview to another, taking notes and accessing online records. Then I have to type reports, bring everything back to the hotel, send the reports back to the office, and then check my home email. Thus, portability needs to be a LOT better than my home laptop. This machine does everything I need. It is quick, light, long in the tooth for battery life, and it looks professional as well. I was initially concerned about the chicklet keys and the touchpad, but those haven't been a problem. The keys seem to touch type perfectly acceptably, and the touchpad, while a little kitchy, doesn't seem to contribute to the wandering cursor problem that plagues my home laptop and makes it virtually impossible to type on. Adding a wireless mouse was a perfect solution to the kitchy touchpad. In fact, I use a Bluetooth mouse, support for which is built into the computer, and which frees a USB port for me and prevents me from losing the receiver plug. The touchpad is okay for occasional use for brief periods, like when I don't have time to carry the mouse to the meeting rooms. In short, the machine is dependable, versatile, light and very portable. I am pleased that I bought it. It replaced a netbook that was light enough, lasted long enough, but was too slow to load, to light on storage for programs and especially updates, and was too easy to drop. The HP Pavillion dm3-3110us will work out just fine.

A great portable laptop

We have had the Pavilion dm3 for a bout two months and it has fully my wife's expectations for a small, inexpensive and portable PC that could run Microsoft Office, surf the web, stream videos through Netflix and Xfinity, and do both voice and video calls using Skype. The PC is light weight and easily portable and on a recent trip out of the country we were averaging over five hours of battery life per charge. In addition, the case has a quality feel and the screen quality has been great for watching videos and looking at pictures. This is not an ultra powerful PC like my Dell XPS, but a good solid performer at a value price. If you want a PC that you can easily move around the house, or stuff in an over sized purse for that trip to Starbucks, this is a great little portable lap top for you.

Super Netbook

Major attraction for me was this laptop is small and light weight. And, better looking than the average. (dull black exterior so it doesn’t smudge, and silver keyboard). With 4 Gig RAM/ 500 Gig hard drive, it has all the speed and capacity I need, and it doesn’t feel like I’m carrying a ton of bricks. The only negative is the touch pad. It doesn’t feel solid—bends a little when depressed…causes cursor to jump. I mostly use a mouse anyway so it is not an issue. Also, it doesn’t have a DVD drive which is why it comes in under 4 lbs. Borrowed my daughter’s external DVD drive to install a few programs. The positives more than outweigh the negative. It is equivalent to a netbook, slightly larger but with some muscle. Haven’t tested the battery yet but I like my screen bright so it won’t last the advertised 7+ hours. Half that time would be fine with me. The speakers sounded surprisingly good. Much better than the two year old 13” XPS I gave my wife. I would recommend this to friends and family interested in a small, light, and easy to carry laptop. Overall, a good value for the money…
