Review Summary
The HP Pavilion p7-1240 Desktop PC has the three things that turn a PC buyers head - price, power and performance. The performance comes via the AMD8-500 3.4GHz processor. Processing data through its quad-core architecture, the Pavilion p7-1240 zips through the toughest, most-power intense programs you have (and it comes loaded with quite a few, too). The 10GB of DDR3 1600MHz RAM (upgradeable to 32 GBs) also help to keep the lines open, as does the 1 TB 7200 RPM SATA hard drive.
The video comes through crystal clear thanks to an integrated Radeon HD7660D graphics card - although you can swap it out for another high-end card. It has DVI and VGA ports that can be used concurrently, so attaching this behemoth to two monitors is easily achieved.
As for your web experience, the unit comes shipped with both a powerful Atheros AR8161L gigabit Ethernet controller with data transfer speeds up to 10/100/1000 Mb/s and a PCI-e half-length mini card that lets you enjoy 802.11 b/g/n wireless as well as Bluetooth 3.0.
Round this out with a 15-in-1 multimedia card reader, a SuperMulti DVD Drive and some sweet USB 3.0 ports and you have a well-loaded computer at a very reasonable price.
