Pleasantly surprised

Usually when a film stock is on sale it's short dated. Or even expired. All the film I ordered was fresh batches that don't expire for a few years. Not that I'd be worried about bw film being expired but nice to see.

My go-to film for decades, HP5 shines in many situations.

I've used HP5 for decades, from 35 to 4x5, and it's nearly my only film now. I use only D-23, but I can get just about any kind of negative I need with thoughtful exposure and processing. In 4x5, that typically means anything from a very long-range scene to a very flat one, with ratings from 200 to 800. My work does not require the high acutance and absolutely grainless appearance that some require from enormous prints. Remember that even a 16x20 is only just over a 4x enlargement, so even with significant cropping, a 4x5 neg printed to 11x14 is grainless (and 645 negs very fine grain indeed). The speed and versatility of this film are reliable and often a choice for fine printers.

A really solid cheap film

For the price of $6 bucks a roll the film is really nice to use an the photos come out great. If you aren't afraid to get a little stylistic push it 2 stops for stunning (if grainy) contrast.

Long, long life

I’ve had this brand of film unused in 8X10 holders stored in my basement for 7 years, not even protected from moisture or humidity. COVID caused me to get out my old Korona (!) and test the film in it. Eureka! - perfect results! So I used it for a Christmas portrait of my little granddaughters. Their Mom’s so happy with it she’ll use it for their card.

dependable film, great images

I have always preferred Ilford films to Kodak and Fuji for black and white. HP5 is a time tested favorite of mine and the 4x5 format is great for this film

Great Film, Great Price!

This is the best price I've found for this film.

How can you capture the perfect shot in any lighting condition The answer lies in the HP-5 Plus 400 35mm Black and White Professional Film. This high-speed monochrome film is your go-to solution for action photography, available light photography, and general-purpose photography.

Designed to deliver optimum results under a vast array of lighting conditions, the HP-5 Plus is rated at ISO 400/27 Degree when exposed to daylight. This film is renowned for its fine grain structure, superior edge contrast, and sharpness that contribute to excellent image quality. The result Prints that boast outstanding brightness and a full tonal range.

But the HP-5 Plus is more than just an ISO 400/27 Degree film. By extending development with certain developers, such as ILFORD ILFOTEC HC and ILFORD MICROPHEN, it's possible to use meter settings up to EI 3200/36. This makes the HP-5 Plus an ideal film for photography where factors like poor lighting and moving subjects demand the highest emulsion sensitivity.

The HP-5 Plus is compatible with all current processing systems, including those that offer standard short fixing and washing times. There's no need to alter your standard processing techniques when switching to HP-5 Plus, or any other ISO 400/27 Degree film.

This 35mm film is supplied in DX Coded cassettes, ensuring the film speed of ISO 400/27 Degree is set automatically on automatic 35mm cameras. The cassettes are robustly built, with end caps firmly fixed to the body to withstand rough handling. The combination of the tangential style cassette and the film's low friction characteristics allows for easy film advancement, thus saving battery wear.

The base tint of HP-5 Plus enables easy print contrast assessment on a light box. For easy negative identification, it also features bold frame numbering for whole frames and letters to indicate half frame numbering.

In summary, the HP-5 Plus 400 35mm Black and White Professional Film is an excellent choice for photographers seeking superior image quality and flexibility under various lighting conditions.
