Questions & Answers

Joanne P : does a refurbished camera come with NEW battery?Jim O : In my experience yes.Carl G : Yes and a charger and cable.Thomas C : To the best of my knowledge the battery was new. You are going to love this camera if you buy it. I am way beyond pleased with mine.KIRK O : Camera came with a Nikon battery. Purchased an extra battery, bridge camera goes thru batteries quickly. Camera used to photograph wildlife so I use multiple photo setting.BOB D : I ordered 2 total I liked the first one so much I ordered a 2nd as a gift.Yes the battery looked and performed like new. I did, as always, order backup battery. My only criticism would be the lack of a manual. You can download one from Nikon but the main manual your only able to read on computer unless you want to print a few hundred pages. The quick start and SnapBridge manuals are small enough to print. Other than that this is the perfect camera for beginners as well as advanced photographers that want to always keep a camera handy but not put their several thousand pro SLR at risk. I love that it shoots RAW which for me is the only way to go. I highly recommend this product and for my money "refurbished by Nikon" is as good or better than new since they are thoroughly put through it's paces before shipping.holly r : There is no battery which is amazing just like my other model it charges by plug in with a phone charger that Android phones useKen O : It came with a battery. I don't know and didn't ask if it was NEW.PATRICIA B : Yes it does but not the wall adapter. You have to charge it through the cord that connects to the camera and charge. I ordered an additional battery and adapter.Robert B : Came with a battery, don't recall if it was new. No issues with it though.Gordon S : YesCARL N : Everything in the box I received LOOKED and performed like new. Beyond that, only Nikon can answer this question.MICHAEL F : There was nothing to indicate that the battery included was not new, and it was packaged the same as batteries that came with new cameras I have purchased.
RICHARD E : what is minimum and maximum focal length ?TED B : On a zoom lens, you have a range of focal lengths. I bought this cameras a gift for my grand-daughter. So you go from the widest taking focal length( the smallest number) to the highest, which is the longest telephoto taking the lens is stretched to. A zoom is the opposite of a prime lens , which has only one focal length. On this camera they will compare the focal lengths as to the taking angle of 35mm (Full frame) camera. If you buy the camera you will see the comparison as you move the lens in & out. If you don't know this you are really a novice, but you will learn.William A : Learned by Googling: 4.3-258 mm (angle of view equivalent to that of 24-1440 mm lens in 35mm [135] format)MARY ANN S : 4.3mm to 258mm.Rod S : On the lens rim is printed "4.3-258 mm." It's a whopping zoom, and my wife loves it.
RICHARD E : What is minimum and maximum aperture?PHILIP D : f/3.3-6.5. It doesn't seem like much, but I have had excellent results in a wide variety of light conditions.ROBLEY J : (Max Aperture: F3.3)/(Min: F6.5). Photos are a "softer" at max zoom. If shooting for hi-zoom, I would recommend backing off from "MAX" where the image may be slightly "sharper" and just "crop" when editing. I recommend that you do not use "digital zoom" except for identifying your object. Note, when shooting 4K video, camera will automatically stop recording in 7.5 minutes - probably to protect the image sensor from overheating, When "panning" in video mode - always pan SLOWLY to minimize video artifacts. This camera is an acceptable size and weight for its features and good for travel (you can carry it!!!)MARY ANN S : f7.6 and f3.3. The display indicator in LCD only goes up to f8. With max ISO and long exposure I couldn't get above f7.6.FENG S : f22 and f1.4

Versatile camera

Camera's strengths include: * 60X zoom * VR software * Has both LCD and electronic viewfinder * LCD swivels to allow for multiple viewing angles * Allows both RAW (NEF) and JPEG files * Substitutes for about 10 prime lenses * Travels well as a carry-on piece on a commercial airline flight because of its relative small size and weight In a few weeks, I'll have the chance to try out the camera's star trails capability. That should be good.

B700, likes and dislikes

This is my fifth Nikon. The closest I have to what the B700 does is my P600. Both have 60x zoom. The video zoom for the B700 maintains focus better that the P600. However, when I am taking still shots of the moon, fully zoomed in, the P600 is crisp and clear. In order to match that quality in the B700, I need to do video with frame captures. Otherwise, if simply taking snapshots without the video, the image on the screen looks great ... until the button is pushed. Then it is blurry. Much more blurry than I could ever be satisfied with. I keep looking for an update to the firmware, hoping, trusting, that this issue will be resolved. Other than that, I am pleasantly surprised with the beauty coming from what it can do.

great all around camera

I've been in and out of photography for quite a while, purchasing my first SLR in 1969 as a teenager (Beseler Topcon... --I still have it). I picked this camera because of the limitations of my other cameras (small waterproof camera and of course a decent phone) because of the long zoom without having to mess around with swapping lenses (ever try to swap lenses in a blizzard?). I like to do a lot of long range landscape photos. Basically it exceeded my expectations. The variety of options for autofocus (being old school I tend to use the fixed focus frame, and choose the focus point myself) but the auto select focus and tracking are pretty interesting. Subtle things are impressive, if hard to pin down. Color is more subtle and realistic than my other cameras even though on paper (MP etc) they would seem to be similar. Especially green foliage. Also macro performance surprised me, I had expected that the long zoom would have troubles with very close subjects, and expected the smaller camera to be better, but the macro performance is quite good. Definitely worth the purchase. If you want to have one camera that pretty much will do anything your need (except very bad weather or underwater it's not weathertight), this is the choice

Love that 60x optical zoom!

This was my dream upgrade camera for my work in the real estate business. I photograph over 400 homes each year - that's about 10,000 photos per year. Many of those properties are at a distance from the road, and the B700 excels in being able to take crisp, clear photos as if I were standing right in front of them. I've connected both sides of the strap to the same metal loop, so I can carry the camera securely in one hand. The auto stabilizer and auto focus make sure that all the photos are great (unless I go out of my way to ruin them.) And the resolution is awesome. When I get back to my office and download the photos for editing, I always know I will have super resolution so I can zoom in on details in a shot. Even if I didn't do so when I first took the photo. A few other must-have's that I wanted in my camera - and that the Nikon B700 has - are: rechargeable LiON battery, download and recharge via USB cable, highest optical zoom I could get (this is pre-P1000 - my next dream camera!), HD, high-resolution, add on microSD card, and an adjustable-angle LCD viewer on rear. Oh, and the controls had to be drop-dead simple to operate. Nothing worse than needing a degree in reading very small print for an overly-complicated user interface. Purchased from Amazon for similar price as Nikon site. Was able to get a Square Trade extended warranty for the camera there. If there wasn't a P1000 or better, my next camera would be another B700. It's that good!

Great Camera

I purchased the B 700 for my wife to replace the old P90. She loves it. I also use it occasionally when I don’t have my D750 with me. I like the RAW format and the telephoto range for photographing birds. It’s easy to use, and takes good quality images. It is much lighted than my DSLR.

Very Capable Nikon Compact

As a pro photographer I shoot a Nikon D500 and a D750, but I follow the truism that my best camera is the one I have with me. The B700 is compact so I always carry it, and have encountered several unexpected photo ops when my DSLRs were back home in their cases, but the small footprint B700 was at my side. It's high resolution and extreme zoom capability make it ideal as a second camera. It does such a good job that I've had several photos published which were shot with it.

Many Useful Scene Settings but takes getting used to them

A Huge Amount of Useful Scene Settings but takes getting used to them. I've never really used them with other cameras but this camera has so many that cover almost all shooting scenarios to quickly adopt correct setting shortcuts for the people like me who can't master full manual mode. There are so many it takes some getting used to them. Zoom, zoom, zoom, X60 - way more than needed for sure but great to have. I bought an aftermarket user manual that was great. Battery runs out quickly but heavy workload with screen and zoom motors and all - buy at least one extra! I bought 2 + wall charger aftermarket batteries and I usually only have to change once using 2 batteries per hours of laxidazacle photographing during walks, travel, or events but feel more secure having all 3 batteries. Great all round camera

Great to carry around when a DSLR is too big and heavy

There are many times when it is inconvenient to carry my D810 with lenses with me, but I still want the capability to take a shot when a good opportunity arises. The B700 has given me that ability on several occasions. I like to take landscape and bird pictures. I often drive by a local nature preserve on my way to work or other activities. I carry a camera with me at all times and the B700 is usually my choice when I'm also carrying other items necessary for my day. Because of this camera's capabilities and convenient size and power, I have been able to catch some great shots while on the run to other places.

Fantastic small camera with great qualities

I have owned my B700 for almost a year. I have used in on trips to Africa, Europe and the Caribbean. I have gotten just as good pictures as I did with my old Nikon SLR with several lenses. The B700 is easy to use, easy to carry, and has a remarkable zoom lens. You do have to be very steady when using the zoom.

This camera has a very complete assortment of features

This is a great camera for all around photography! My wife and I have enjoy the features of this camera. In particular the night scenes feature has been used at concerts. We also attended a Christmas light show where the B700 did very well capturing the displays.

Great Camera

I have had this camera for over a year. It takes the most wonderful clear pictures. We go to Mexico for a month in the winter. Every night the sky puts on a show for us when the sun sets. I have taken some of the most beautiful sunset pictures you can imagine. I had a DLSR but found it took too much time to focus and take a picture. With this camera - it's done automatically and the pictures are just as good or better. I love this camera and highly recommend it. You won't be sorry.

Nothing but trouble

I have had this camera for 2 years now and have had nothing but problems with it. I took photos at a banquet and if anyone moved even slightly the photo turns out blurry. After a year of having the camera the lens seems to get stuck. I have a constant lens error, where the lens just goes in an out and you cannot get the camera to shut off. Very disappointing as this has now happened while I have taken it on vacation twice now. I ended up taking photos with my phone instead.

Love it but...

I purchased the B700 because I was asked to do video clips at an upcoming event and wanted to avoid using the same camera for photos and video. In learning to use the camera and taking shots around my home, every thing seemed fine in fact, outstanding. I shot an outdoor video and that turned out great as well but then a few issues began. The first is that in low light the camera seems to require much higher ISO than I would expect to use and sometimes even at higher ISOs there's still not enough light. The next problem is that on zooming in neither video nor photos are sharp. Without zooming in the photos are great and the clarity of the videos is absolutely amazing. For me the lack of sharpness is a real problem as I am being asked more and more to provide video clips. To ensure I wouldn't have to deal the lack of sharpness at an upcoming event, I purchased the D7200. Oddly enough, I like the B700 and have not returned it. I love its portability and functionality and would like to work through these issues so I can give a 5-star rating.

Great bridge camera

I got tired of lugging around a full size DSLR for wildlife photography. This camera takes amazing pictures for a small sensor camera. The super long zoom works well and image quality is quite good at full zoom, It"s light weight and fairly quick to focus. Overall a great value for the price even though this camera was bought as a refurb, it was in "as new" condition.

I’m planning a trip to Alaska and was told about the great zoom on this camera. It’s unbelievable how it zooms and easy to use without changing lenses

I would recommend the refurbished b700 to others. It arrived in a plain white box and had no instruction manual. Other than that the camera functions like and looks brand new. It has a 90 day warranty which is plenty time to tell if the camera is going to function properly.

Loaded with great options in a high quality camera.

After reading reviews of this and several other cameras, I chose the Nikon B700 because it offered all the different features I’ve been wanting in a single camera. Now, I’ll be able to learn how to use them, to improve my own photographic results.

Great step up from phone cam

I love my Nikon B700. It has most of the features of the DSLR cameras, at a budget friendly cost especially considering the amazing super zoom lense. Years ago I used a film SLR which was very heavy with the various lenses. This camera is ergonomic and travels easily. I primarily use the program P mode, due to the control. For me, a view finder is a must, which B700 has. I did order additional batteries and a charger. I bought this camera for an upcoming Grand Canyon trip and an safari later in the year. You need to download the complete manual to know all the features of the camera.

good camera for birding

I bought this Nikon B700 superzoom camera for birding. I'm using it to replace a Nikon Coolpix S8200 "pocket" camera. I had a chance to test it out yesterday and am very pleased with the performance in comparison to the S8200. However, I'll continue to use the S8200 for vacation photos because of it's convenience for travel. I'm an amateur birder and the B700 is wonderful for identification and documentation of birds at a distance, which is where they usually are. The images provide very good resolution at 12x16 inch size. Performance in low light is better than I expected but not what could be obtained with a much more expensive camera and lens, not to mention a heavier weight. I'm happy with this purchase and recommend it for its superzoom capability, ease of use and light weight.

Great point and shoot

Great point and shoot. It has more features then I expected. Easy to use. Love the preset: landscape, birdwatching, etc. But also has the ability to set your own. Also I like the zoom. I have an DSLR,but need to change lenses. With the B700 you have it all in one. Great vacation camera. I would recommend this camera.

Never did get the Snapbridge to work.

After dozens of hours trying, over many months, I have yet to get photos to transfer to my iphone6. Comparing the sharpness of the photos to my d750 or my Df leaves a lot to be desired. I bought the camera to get around the no pro camera policy at my local sports venue. Being able to transfer photos to social media was a big selling point to me but, I’ve never been able to do that more than a few times. It just dozen’t want to work 99.99% of the time. The lens isn’t fast enough to stop action during sporting events. The camera mostly collects dust in the back of my closet now.

Perhaps I missed it in your ad but I was very annoyed when it arrived without a memory card. Kind of like buying a car without tires. Please let me know if I overlooked that in your ad and I will change the rating. The camera itself is great.

Good little camera

I ordered this camera to take on a trip and did not want to have to carry my dslr and lenses but wanted a camera that could handle lots of situations. It has many features and it takes a bit of practice to put them all to use. It works very well has a significant telephoto and good wide angle. I was concerned about buying a refurbished but that was ungrounded. The camera looks like new and functions as new. I had a problem it would not charge the battery or link to my computer. I brought this to the attention of Adorama support and they directed me to Nikon tech support. I thought that I was getting blown off. But Nikon suggested a couple of things to check out and found that it was the usb cable. I brought this to the attention of Adorama tech support and they sent me a new cable. Problem solved. So if you are looking for a small capable camera this is a good choice and don't worry about the refurbished issue. Also one primary reason for the purchase to the camera was that it has a view finder. There are only a few small cameras that have one and they are necessary shooting in full sun.

Really good travel cam

I really like that this camera can be shot in RAW. I got it for a UK trip I will be taking in a few months. I didn't want to risk my gear on that trip and need time to learn the operations on the camera before going. The quality of the pictures produced are pretty good so far. It's light weight will be a significant advantage when lugging it around constantly for a couple weeks. I am still learning of its capabilities but it seems a good option for the trip. The extreme zoom takes a lot of prep to get sharp pics. The worst part of that is that there is no way to delay shutter release to deal with the camera shake. Tripod is helpful but still pressing the shutter release results in some movement. This can be dealt with thru the remote photo feature through snap bridge but it's a slow and annoying app. I wish there were other remote trigger options. I also really miss the back button focus option. I also wish it could remotely command a Nikon flash. There are at least two flashes that are reported to work with it (a Yongnuo 560 IV and a LumoPro LP 180) but since its a Nikon you'd think they'd work with Nikon flashes. I guess its not an issue for the trip since I wont take any flashes anyway. As mentioned by others the lack of a separate battery charger is disappointing. The need to plug in the camera to charge the battery is annoying. I did purchase a 3rd party set of batteries and charger and hope that will work ok.

Very good camera

This is a very good camera. I am still working on figuring out all the bells and whistles, but overall I love it. I find it takes a little longer than I like to focus in on zoom-ins but I am sure once I get some practice with it I will get it to work better and I will be able to work better with it. Overall I am a very happy shopper and love the camera.

Snapbridge can operate zoom as well as take photos. Does not seem to be able to start video recording. 3. I wish they had at least 720p slow motion video but only 480p slow motion is included. 4. Jpegs on normal setting have a size of 4.5 MB, while raw files are more than 32 MB! But the difference in quality, and the amou...

The Nikon COOLPIX B700: The Ultimate Close-Up
The B700 is the most compact ultra-high-power 60x optical zoom, 120x Dynamic Fine Zoom*1 camera in its class, presenting an advanced balance of mobility, zoom performance and imaging technology. Users can look forward to capturing vibrant scenes and portraits in sharp detail, both day and night, backed by the camera's 20.3 million megapixels*2 delivered with a backside-illumination CMOS image sensor.

This is further enhanced by superior NIKKOR lens optics to ensure that subjects always look crisp and vibrant. With the incorporation of a Super Extra-Low Dispersion glass element, chromatic aberration is effectively reduced and excellent image quality is maintained, even at a higher zoom ratio. Advanced users now also have greater freedom to experiment and edit their images with the camera's ability to shoot in RAW format, with no impact on image quality.

Helping users navigate ultra-high-power zoom, are snap-back zoom and side zoom control for easy operation. If a subject is lost during telephoto zoom operation, the camera's zoom position can be shifted to wide-angle with the press of a button, allowing the user to recapture the subject easily which can come in handy when capturing fast-paced sporting action or birds moving through the canopy. To reduce camera shake for crisp, clear images, the camera's side zoom control ensures stable zoom operation while holding the lens barrel with the left hand.

Combining technological refinement with lightning-fast performance, the B700 ensures that special moments are never missed. Locking on to subjects is even faster with high-speed autofocus at approximately 0.12 seconds, aided by a pre-focus function which allows the camera to detect composition change and camera shake. When tracking moving subjects such as children at play or animals on the move, the enhanced Vibration Reduction (VR) performance with improved camera shake detection and at a compensation effect equivalent to a shutter speed of 5.0 stops*3, help to ensure that images are sharp and shake-free when shooting on the go.
The B700 comes with an extensive suite of stand-out video features for the aspiring movie-maker. Advanced 4K Ultra-high-definition movies with stereo sound are a snap to create in 2160/30p format, for vibrant videos with sumptuous details. Features such as a dedicated movie-record button, still image shooting, and push autofocus function during movie recording, further simplify the movie-making experience for everyday users. HDMI support is also available in the B700, allowing the direct playback of gorgeous video creations for immediate enjoyment on bigger screens.

The 2016 Spring COOLPIX range sees the introduction of a "Superlapse" movie function for selected models in the line-up. The B700 is able to stitch still images saved from a recorded movie into a 30 or 20fps fast-action movie from the user's unique viewpoint, even while recording in motion, allowing the user to experiment with creative composition or changing landscapes. In addition, impressive time-lapse creations can be put together with the quick selection of a shooting scene and appropriate time interval, for the convenient enjoyment of cityscapes and sunsets, ready for sharing on social media.

Creative image creation is embraced with an array of versatile and intuitive editing and post-processing functions. For celebrations with extra sparkle, Multiple Exposure Lighten is a new function for photographing light trails. The camera automatically composites two or more images taken with interval-timer photography, for the best shots of fireworks, star trails and flying aircraft. Another new feature, Creative Mode enables users to combine preset modes such as "Light", "Depth" and "Classic" with options such as appropriate aperture, contrast and color reproduction before shooting, for a unique visual narrative with every shot.

Elevating the COOLPIX user journey is the launch of SnapBridge, a brand new connectivity experience from Nikon which turns the B700 into a powerful image creation device with always-on smartphone connectivity. SnapBridge powers the automatic transfer of images to the user's smartphone as they are captured for a seamless Bluetooth connection between the camera and social media. This service comes with a host of features for added convenience and connectivity such as the embedding of location, date/time and image credit information, automatic uploading of photographs to the NIKON IMAGE SPACE, as well as remote shooting via a Wi-Fi connection for shake-free shots. Users looking to re-live holiday memories or special occasions can also browse camera images, even when the camera is turned off.

The design DNA of the B700 is inherited from a SLR camera marrying both style and function. An electronic viewfinder, equipped with an eye sensor, ensures a stable shooting position and easy switching between monitor shooting and viewfinder operation. The camera's vari-angle TFT High-definition LCD monitor allows for convenient shooting from high and low angles, with clear visibility even under direct sunlight. Additionally, a premium body construction is conveyed by the camera's refined styling and high quality textures, for secure yet comfortable handling.
