I have had a Coolpix P510 for several years and really liked it. When I read the reviews for the Coolpix P900, I was really interested and the camera has not disappointed. I like the longer zoom range that has allowed me to get some great bird and animal pictures. The picture resolution appears to be the same, whether at 24mm or 2000mm. I really like being able to quickly change the aperture and shutter speed settings using the Command Dial and the Multi-Selector Dial. I also designated the Function Button to control ISO settings. So all exposure controls are right at my fingertips and easily adjusted. I also like the eye sensor that automatically switches from the LCD screen to the viewfinder when I bring the camera up to my face. I prefer to shoot using the viewfinder as it helps to minimize camera shake and automatically turning off the LCD screen saves the battery. The camera is heavier than expected which makes it a little harder to minimize camera shake for hand-held shooting. The P900 also has a limited depth of field control. The range is from f/2.8 to f/8, depending on the zoom setting. It is difficult to get a good bokeh for portraits and close-up nature shots. I have been having trouble finding a lens hood to use with this camera. Without a lens hood, you get a lot of flare when shooting in bright light conditions and have to be careful not to shoot toward the light source. In summary, I am very happy with my purchase of the Coolpix P900. It is a quality point-and-shoot camera The focal range allows me to switch from landscapes to bird/animal subjects without having to change lenses. It is a good value for the money.

First off I love the zoom range! I have seen the moon, Jupiter, Venus, Mars, and Saturn! My only complaint is the autofocus doesn't always work (lags). And the photos aren't always the best quality overall. It has a small sensor which would explain the picture quality. But with that said I will buy Nikon products in the future. Keep up the great work guys.

I was pleasantly surprised by this camera. It came out 5 yrs. ago and i understand the latest version is better but for the price this is just fine. The pictures are very sharp. The controls are a bit clunky but it's a point and shoot. Nothing that is a deal breaker. I got this because I'm tired of lugging a 300 mm 8 lb. lens around. Shooting pictures of the moon just got way easier with the tilt screen on this camera. I was unaware that this will shoot 60 or 120 fps. It's fun I'm glad I bought it. It only shoots JPEG's but I understand the latest model shoots RAW files as well. I think.

It’s an OK camera. Not special. More glitz than actual substance. It’s very difficult to see through the EVF. It’s just not bright enough. Photo quality is very good.

Just got this camera and have been very impressed so far. Very easy to set up, but just learning all it can do. WiFi set up is my next task to tackle. On-line users manual is a great help.

Exactly what I was looking for. Outdoor shots are stunning with close-ups that don't disturb. Sometimes long range focus and finding is difficult, but I knew that going in.

Great camera. Easy to use and the long range zoom is terrific though some shots at maximum zoom appear grainy. Wonderful point and shoot camera and I recommend it highly.

I had in mind to upgrade my dslr & we went into Best Buy talking about upgrading my D3100 and the gentleman told me about the new one and then he mentioned the P900 and I went to look at it and handle it and right then I knew this was the one. While I am still learning the camera, I am loving the settings and options...To me there is a learning curve between the 2 but I am very please with my purchase!! Love that you don't have to have different lenses

I was looking for a point and shoot camera with a good zoom. I"ve been a Nikon fan cense my pro days. I was tired of changing lenses. I had zeroed in on the 600B in the stores. It had a good zoom and nice features at a good price. I was ready to buy and decided to check it out online first, glad I did. Found the 900P on the Nikon site and compared it to the 600B. I decided the eye viewer / and more advanced display screen, plus the more powerful zoom, plus the multitude of shooting options from full manual control to abundant scene settings, and easy to set the flash, timers, ISO, and Macro settings were worth the extra $200 over the 600B. Had a big bright full Moon recently and got to try the Moon scene setting. The zoom was incredible and the exposures were excellent. This may be the best camera I have ever owned.

I am very pleased with the P900. I would buy a refurbished unit again, mine looks and works as new. Audorama shipped as promised and delivered a great product. I would buy from them again.

for a point and shoot I think it does a real good job. I like having a manual mode for doing table tops and such. The DSLR's have sort of found a forever home in the darkroom.

I have had my CoolPix P900 for a two years. I love the camera, pictures are great, videos are great. Lighting on video inside dark areas require the flash up the entire time. The one thing that is a HUGE design flaw and would have been a deal breaker had I known prior to my purchase, is the Tripod connection. The tripod connector began to crack around the screw after one year and the next thing you know, it snaps off because the camera is heavy and the tripod connection is not centered in the middle of the camera to distribute the weight properly. It is installed right where the camera splits, so the weight is one-sided. If you use a Monopod orTripod often, this camera may not be for you.

The images I get from this lens are sharp and so vibrant. I wide angle is my favorite aspect of this camera. Of course, the zoom is a joy. I have numerous pets and I am catching shots of them that are so tight I can’t believe the images. My cat’s eyes are beautiful and so piercing and this camera nails it. It’s fun to use. I’m usually in aperture priority, but the science feature is sweet. The menu is straight forward. I use both inion and canon, and for zoom capability this camera is awesome. Tripod helps but not necessary all the time. Hand held is photos are no problem.

Good point and shoot camera. Great for travel. Excellent moon shots. The thing I dislike most is the up down focus switch.... I never seem to get good clear pictures when using the camera in manual focus mode. At this point I would buy the P1000 with the focus ring. Yes, I know the 1000 weighs more but I would prefer it with better options.

I am a Nikon user and have a D800 with an 80-400 mm lens that I use for bird watching. One of the issues is that my camera with lens was very heavy while out in the field. A friend recommended trying the COOLPIX P900. It was so light and the pictures are incredible. I never thought I would be pleased with a "point and shoot" but I am!

I bought this as a quick grab travel camera to use instead of dragging around one of my DSLR cameras. I love the features of this camera! That zoom, are you kidding me? And, it turns on quickly and is really easy to use! If you have other Nikon cameras, you will find the menu and features very easy to navigate. Definitely recommend!

Excellent Camera Great Zoom, takes excellent pictures
By EdwardM
I have owned the Nikon Coolpix P900 for about 3 weeks and have loved it. I do a lot of nature photography I'm not a pro but a very good amateur and have owned and used several advanced long-zooms over the past 9 years. This is a good one it takes excellent quality pictures and is good at both ends of the zoom. I have gotten some amazing shots of the moon with awesome detail handheld as well as several shots of birds at distances my other cameras could not even have made the shot and they came...

really happy with zoom
By birdwatcher
I am not a professional. I recently picked up birding and wanted to upgrade my Nikon D40 to a better zoom camera that could hold more than a 2GB memory card. I was wavering between buying a nicer zoom lenses or a new camera. Every lenses that I liked was well over ($) so I thought I would give the P900 a try. I am really happy with my choice. The weight is also a plus - it is light enough that it goes unnoticed in my backpack on a hike. I also really appreciate how seamlessly it connects with...

The Nikon COOLPIX P900 is a compact digital camera with an 83x optical zoom, the world's longest-range built in zoom lens. This ultrazoom Nikon camera's lens captures the equivalent of a 24-2000mm lens on a 35mm camera. It has a 16MP CMOS sensor and captures 1080p HD video. It has built-in vibration reduction, Wi-Fi, NFC and GPS, and can be operated remotely via an Apple iOS or Android smartphone or tablet computer. With such a long zoom range, this feature-packed camera is ideal for travel, sports, astrophotography and wildlife photography, and will appeal to amateurs and photo enthusiasts.
What you should know about this camera
Long zoom lens: The 24-2000mm optical zoom can be digitally doubled, maxing out at 166x using Dynamic Fine Zoom. Constructed of super extra-low dispersion (ED) glass elements, the lens delivers surprisingly sharp photos of subjects that are so far away they are barely visible to the naked eye. The lens is a fast f/2.8 when at its widest setting, and f/6.5 at its longest telephoto length. It can focus as close as 0.4 inches when in Macro mode.
Electronic viewfinder: You have two ways to view photos, via the high-resolution 921k eye-level viewfinder, or by using the flip-out Vari-angle 921k resolution, 3-inch display for overhead, low angle or side-angle shooting.
HD Video capture: The P900 records full HD 1080p video with stereo sound.
Auto and manual exposure: For more advanced shooters, a PASM mode dial gives you DSLR-like manual exposure control. If you prefer to let the camera do the thinking, there are plenty of Scene and Effects modes that let you get great results.
Remote control via Smart Phone: The Nikon P900 uses Nikon Snapbridge, which links the camera with your smart phone or tablet via Wi-Fi and NFC. You can take full control of your camera from your mobile device, or you can quickly upload images onto your favorite image-sharing, online storage or social network.
