The Nikon 1 SB-N5 Speedlight is an excellent accessory for the Nikon 1 camera body line. It draws its power from the camera body, thus reducing its size. The flash head is directional and offers many lighting solutions for every image. As an outdoor fill flash, it is superb. See the image below that was taken in complete shade.

Nice small flash to complement the VI camera. Great for fill-flash but only OK as a main flash, as it isn't the most powerful unit out there.

Of course I would prefer that the Nikon V1 (& V2) had a standard hot-shoe but this little thing is great. I love that it has no batteries of its own and is always ready to go when the camera is if I need it. In addition to being just powerful enough for most of my needs, with its 2-axis swivel head I can use it to trigger my studio lights without lighting the scene if I don't feel like setting up the DSLR. I know the newer SB-N7 is more powerful with it's own batteries but its head only swivels on 1-axis so this little thing works perfectly for me.

Very compact, just right for the V1 plus very useful adjustable flash unit.

I purchase this for those odd times that I need a flash. Its nice that I don't have to worry about a battery. Not used all that often.

Very flexible. Very compact. Can be bounced in both horizontal and vertical camera positions. In photography - lighting is everything!

I bought this flash to make our recently purchased V1 more versatile. We've only had it a couple weeks, but it seems to be working great and adds just the right touch for indoor photos at home. Bounced off the ceiling, the images come out looking much better than with a traditional point and shoot flash. The main reason we got it was because my wife and daughter are going on a field trip to Hawaii with the middle school during spring break and I wanted them to make sure they had a flash to take indoor pics with at the hotel and attractions etc. The N5 was chosen over the newer N7 because I like the smaller size and the fact that it used the on-camera battery as opposed to triple A batteries. I know the N7 is more powerful, but from what I've seen so far, the N5 is capable enough for day to day situations. If you can find one, I'd highly recommend it.

fits the V1 perfect - compact and light. operates off the camera's battery. chose it over the 7 for those reasons and its bounce ability. sure a little more power is desired yet these features are essential for me. can't report on the durability just yet.

The only current option for the Nikon V1. It is a little undr powered but more powerful than a point and shoot flash. Has bounce and swivel (use a business card as a bounce card). Very light weight and easy to carry. The foot cover is easy to lose so be extra careful. No batteries needed since the camera powers it. Overall a decent little flash. Just wish it had a bit more power.

This is the perfect compliment to my Nikkon 1/V1 camera.....lightweight, adjustable, fits nicely in the camera bag, easy to use.

This unit is smaller than one anticipates even after having seen photographs of it on the website. It is powered by the camera battery and once turned on manually from the rear can be controlled thereafter by the camera. Bounce lighting is fine in a room with 8-10 foot ceilings and white or light paint surfaces. Even direct lighting was reasonably pleasant.

When you need more light, or are looking to add a creative touch to illumination, use the new Nikon 1 Speedlight. Plug this compact i-TTL compatible flash unit into the camera's multi-accessory hot shoe. Angle the flash up, down, left or right and bounce light to precise advantage. The flash can double as a continuous light source illuminating for six seconds during both Motion Snapshot and Smart Photo Selector modes. Extra batteries not required-the camera powers the SB-N5 Speedlight.
