I use it primarily as a zoo lens in order to take advantage of the shallow depth of field when shooting through wire fencing etc. I have used most of the Nikon/Canon lenses in this class, and although it may be a little slower to focus than the latest Canon, I believe it is still sharper than the opposition. It is particularly noticeable on the later E5 body. My only gripe is that it's heavier than any other 300/2.8 currently available. That said, it's worth every cent, AND the sometimes extended waiting period due to its "Built to Order" spec. Beautifully built.
