I have had this Kit for a couple weeks now and have been able to try it in several different situations and have been absolutely impressed. Compared to the pro-sumer compact I've been using it excels in every way. The kit I bought actually came with the 14-42mm & the 45-150mm zoom lens. The 14-42 lens has a very sticky/jumpy zoom action that is consistent with other reviews I've read on this product. This makes it pretty useless for video but the optics and still images are pretty good for a kit lens. that being said it will be useful until I acquire some faster primes in that range. I love the size and weight of this system it easy to keep your gear with you all the time with the right bag. If your looking for a bargain to make the move to micro 4/3's this is it in my opinion.

I use this as a backup to my Nikon rig. I carry in my briefcase. Really nice interface. Viewfinder is really cool too. I find it better to have a built in viewfinder than attaching an external one... feels much more integrated into camera. I usually use viewfinder for my shooting... YMMV. For the times when I do use the LCD, the swing out one on this camera is great. A really great thing with this camera is that there is a lever which can be used to zoom the Panasonic power zoom lenses. Much better than using the lever on the lens which is positioned terribly (note that I am not using the lens that came with this came as I am using the 14-45 power zoom). The only real negative is I wish the camera was a bit more solid like the GX1. It's not as cheap and plasticky as I was expecting, but still could be a little more solid.

I own many panasonic products Lumix LX7 Lumix FZ200 and now Lumix G5. THis Lumix G5 comes with basic kits lens and produce very good picture quality.Compare to Canon or Nikon kits lens. Zoom ring is not so smooth to feel but it has great quality build.I set all of my sot to Ai(Auto). I use EVF more than lcd display althought display is excellent.Color is very very good with nice sharpness. My canon dslr is now spend more time sitting in shelf. Mocro four third is the future of photography I think. I plan to add more prime and zoom lens from Lumix in the near future. This G5 is also very light that makes it good for traveling.

This is a great little camera. I've wanted something smaller and lighter to carry around with me pretty much where ever I go. I have several Nikon DSLRs for my professional work but I'm tired of toting them around. Anyway, I'll probably replace the kit lens for something with a little longer reach and get the Panasonic TTL flash but I'm very happy with this camera.

I haven't worked much with the kit lens but body is great for the weight / cost. Pros: - Camera's software is very responsive. Lots of customization available. - Electronic shutter is great for quiet photos / portraits. Doesn't work too well for nature & sport though. - High resolution 60fps video. - Easy to change exposure options. Cons: - Manual focus is a pain. The auto focus options are very good though. - Manual options for video are lacking.

Like the touch screen and easy to use menu. Little bigger than my Olympus PL2. Purchased the G5 because it is less money than the Olympus. Have not used it enough to determine if I will miss the in body image stabilization. Focus for dogs and grandchildren is fast enough for my use. Enjoy the viewfinder I will not purchase another camera without a viewfinder.

I purchased the G5 after seeing it rated as the best camera for under $1000. After having it two weeks and a thousand pictures, it hasn't disappointed.

As a 63 year old photographer I was getting tired of lugging around my Canon 40D, w/17-85, 50f1.8, and Tamron 70-300f4-5.6, and felt that I wasn't getting any enjoyment out of my photography, so I sold off my Canon gear and bought my G5 kit, I love the small size and lightness of both lenses. I have played with this for 3 weeks now and enjoy shooting once again. A couple of minuses are where the SD card goes and the short battery life (320 shots) compared with the Canon battery (600 shots or better) So after playing around the day I got the G5 I had to recharge the battery before grandsons birthday party. I wasn't a big fan of SD cards over CF cards thought they were to small but know don't have to worry about bent pins in the camera if putting the card in wrong. OK THEN. Back to the review. You can shoot video then a still picture and back to video almost without thinking. For stalking our cats around the house this camera fits the bill with its flip screen you can put the camera on the ground a still see your subject without looking through the eye finder. Another plus is the touch screen you can take the picture, using the eye finder you can move the focus point around using the touch screen so you can compose your shot then move the focus point to what ever you want in focus. There are 4 different guide line patterns for composing your shot the rule of thirds or tic-tac-toe board, a twelve boxes with an dashed x covering upper left/right to lower left/right, a movable vertical and horizontal lines and an off for a cleaner screen. There are a number of different filter effects, and art filters. As stated before I have only had the camera for 3 weeks in the third week now so will post more of a review as I get to know my little friend. With the gift certificate I was going to buy a flash but after using the camera the first day I thought another battery would be better so I bought 2 and another 8gb card. I am sticking to the Panasonic battery after reading about 3 party batteries not talking to camera, not showing battery life. But am glad I made the switch. Only complaints: The battery life and where the SD card goes (in same place above the battery) that's why only 4 stars

I recently bought a GH5 from Adorama and just gave it its first major workout. To say I'm pleased is an understatement. This camera can do most, if not all, that my excellent Nikon D300S does (did) at 1/5 the weight. The image stabilization (lens based) is outstanding. I still have a lot to learn but can recommend the GH5 enthuisstically. One piece of advice: buy 1 or 2 extra batteries. It devours power. A small price to pay for a great camera.

I have a Nikon D7000 but needed something smaller and lighter to bring with me during day trips with the family. This Panasonic G5 works out great, it produces very good pictures, not as good as my Nikon but good enough. The Panasonic G5 produces awesome HD videos with excellent face detection and tracking, is clearly more actuate then my Nikon D7000. Over all, I'm very happy with this purchase and have recommended it to my family and friends. If you need a small portable camera that packs a punch, get this and you will not regret it.

I upgraded to this camera from one of the first entrants in the m 4/3 category. After debating between this and a model from 'the other brand', I chose the Panasonic because it just felt right- the ergonomics in hand are wonderful. The fully articulating screen is bright and clear. It is, however, a bit less responsive than most will be used to due to the use of a resistive touch panel instead of capacitive. I have not shot much with it yet, but the few images and video that I have taken were superb. We're getting closer all the time to a compact body that can get close to APS-C quality images. This body may be considered 'chunky' by some, but for those with bigger hands/longer fingers, it's a godsend. Many of the smaller rangefinder styles now feel too cramped for me. I've seen a lot of reference to subpar battery life, and I'm not sure whether that is the case yet or not, but there's always the option to pick up a spare battery! The benefits of having a slightly larger body are: more thoughtful button layout, and a built in pop up flash and EVF, things you typically pay to add on in a smaller body. In the end, it's not quite pocketable, but I will be keeping it on a sling / in a sling bag anyway. Very excited to see what I can do with this.
