Questions & Answers

TJ C : Is this a full-frame camera?WILLIAM B : I would say no, because I understand full frame cameras to have sensors the size of 35mm film. GH3 has a 17.3 x 13 mm sensor. So less than half that size. Only downside to the GH3 sensor that I've found is that it is not as good in low light as a full frame might be. Still, stunning image quality. Although I can definitely see where Joel W is coming from, and he sounds like he knows his stuff.KAREN R : No it's a crop sensor.TJ C : Thank you everybody! It does seem like a great camera but I did find it actually had a crop factor of 2.0, so that would make a 24 mm lens generate 48 mm images. On the plus side, a 135 mm telephoto would create 270 mm images if I'm right. I may get one as a gift to someone and get something a bit different for me, but I do like the mirrorless digital cameras. TJMARK H : No, it is a smaller sensor size that's referred to as Micro 4/3 or MTF. If you search online for camera sensor size comparisons you can see how it compares to a full frame sensor.JOEL W : In essence yes- but the term "full frame" comes from the fact that companies like Canon and Nikon designed digital camera bodies around their existing lens lines that were originally for 35mm film cameras. This camera is part of the micro 4/3 system which was designed from scratch as a digital camera system so the lenses match the bodies from the start. Also this camera has no mirror or pentaprism like DSLRs so it is far more compact and lighter. In general the lenses are superb and in my tests higher quality overall than my Canon and Nikon lenses.CHENGLUN N : Like other Panasonic's G and GH cameras, GH3 only use a micro 4/3 sensor. It is not a full frame sensor, I am afraid.DIANNE S : No, it has a smaller sensor, and it is mirrorless. It shoots excellent jpeg images. Check the specs for the sensor size. Crop factor is 2, meaning that the effective focal length of the 12-35 mm lens is 24-70 mm.ACCOUNTS P : No; it has a micro 4/3rds sensor which is smaller than an aps-c sensor.
