Great for people used to APS-C bodies
I recently switched from APS-C and I'm impressed with how familiar this is in weight and form factor while still packing in everything I'd expect from a high-end Sony body.

This state-of-the-art device is equipped with cutting-edge technology to capture both still images and movies, making it an essential tool for capturing your world as you envision it.
The a7C II boasts a new 33.0 megapixel Exmor R CMOS image sensor, delivering high-speed readout, high sensitivity from ISO 100 to ISO 51200, low noise, and highly accurate color reproduction. This ensures outstanding performance and excellent image quality for both stills and movies.
Powered by the advanced BIONZ XR processing engine, the a7C II offers up to eight times more processing power than its predecessor. This engine minimizes processing latency while boosting movie and still image processing power, achieving natural gradations, realistic color, low noise, superior image quality, and fast menu response.
The a7C II's advanced AE algorithm, combined with the latest processing engine, can detect the skin area of faces and adjust exposure accordingly for both stills and movies. This ensures consistent exposure control even in challenging shooting conditions, such as backlit subjects, shadows, direct sunlight, or subjects not directly facing the camera.
With the Creative Look feature, you can set the visual mood of your images. This feature offers 10 customizable presets, allowing you to capture the world the way you want. You can use the presets as they are or adjust eight parameters, including contrast, saturation, and shadows, to create shareable stills and movies in-camera without the need for post-production editing.
The a7C II offers selectable RAW image sizes and quality. Its lossless RAW image compression provides efficient compression for smaller file sizes with no loss in image quality, enabling the camera to shoot up to 27 frames in continuous bursts. There are three lossless-compression image sizes (S/M/L) to suit any application, and a Light image quality selection that generates less data is provided for JPEG and HEIF images.
The a7C II's advanced optical 5-axis image stabilization ensures more stable handheld shooting for stills. Its high-precision image stabilization unit, advanced gyro sensors, and optimized image stabilization algorithms effectively compensate for up to 7.0-steps of camera shake. Compatible lenses with built-in image stabilization combine with improved synchronization between the body and lens to make framing easier even at telephoto focal lengths that can otherwise cause a large amount of blur.
The a7C II is compatible with Sony's extensive lineup of optically advanced E-mount lenses, including the G Master series that blends breathtaking resolution with exquisite bokeh, and the G Lens series with excellent image quality and smooth bokeh. These compact and lightweight lenses offer a wide range of photographic and videographic applications.
The a7C II offers high-quality movie recording capabilities. It features 4K 60p/50p movie capture, S-Cinetone for a cinematic look straight out of the camera, and Log shooting for flexible post processing, all within a remarkably compact, lightweight body that's compatible with gimbal or drone-mounted shooting.
The a7C II offers 4K 60p/50p movie capture with full pixel readout and no pixel binning, taking advantage of the latest BIONZ XR processing engine and its wide dynamic range to produce exceptionally smooth images of fast-moving subjects. When recording 4K movies at 30p, full-frame 7K oversampling delivers 4K with enhanced clarity and detail.
Utilizing the same color science from Sony's highly regarded Cinema Line, S-Cinetone delivers natural mid-tones that are essential to healthy-looking skin tones, plus soft colors and gorgeous highlights. Advanced movie recording for simpler post-production In-camera 10-bit 4:2:2 recording is available when using Long GOP or All-Intra compression, making it possible to color grade for fuller, more natural gradations while generally providing greater editing freedom.
The a7C II boasts an S-Log gamma curve that emphasizes gradation characteristics from shadows to mid-gray (18% gray), achieving 14+ stops of latitude. S-Gamut and S-Gamut.Cine color gamut settings are also provided. You can apply a custom LUT (Look Up Table) with a Log gamma curve to preview how the footage will look in post-production, or to even record footage conveniently with a PP LUT already applied.
Active Mode provides enhanced image stabilization for handheld shooting. A precision image stabilization unit, advanced gyro sensors, and an optimized image stabilization algorithm work together for exceedingly smooth, stable movie footage. In addition to this in-body stabilization, compatible lenses with their own built-in image stabilization coordinate with the camera body for highly effective control, enabling handheld telephoto shots with greater clarity.
The a7C II is equipped with an AI processing unit specifically dedicated to processing significant amounts of data, enabling more accurate recognition of subjects and recognition of a wider range of subject types. Its human pose estimation technology uses a skeleton-based model, enabling it to recognize not just eyes, but also body and head positions with high precision, so it can even lock onto and track a subject facing away from the camera or with their face partially obscured.
The a7C II uses up to 759 phase detection points in a high-density array that cover approximately 94% of the image area when shooting stills, enabling it to recognize the subject even when they only occupy a small area of the frame. Equipped with the latest AF algorithms, the a7C II achieves high AF precision down to light levels as low as EV -4.0 in AF-S mode (ISO 100 equivalent, F2.0 lens). It also includes a Focus Priority mode that provides more reliable AF in low light or when using smaller apertures.
The a7C II's mechanical and electronic shutters allow continuous shooting at up to 10 fps, or up to 8 fps in live view mode, making it easier to capture the most photogenic moments and expressions with moving subjects.
