Review Summary
The Jobu Design BWG-LW3 Lightweight MK III Gimbal Head is a gimbal-type tripod head that allows the entire weight of the camera and lens combination to be hung rather than balanced. Major improvements have been made to the original BWG-LW2 that includes a significant reduction in overall weight.
The new version is a half-pound lighter than its predecessor. This weight loss comes with a stiffening of the chassis, resulting in a much stronger gimbal that's less prone to flex. Additionally, a ball-bearing pivoting system has been introduced that makes the action on this gimbal much smoother than before.
This gimbal design allows the camera to be side-mounted rather than to be placed on top of a ball head. This is especially useful for larger telephoto lenses or spotting scopes. This way the lens can rotate around its center of gravity, dramatically improving handling and vibration dampening.
