I've tested a lot of dvd recorders and this deck produces the best technical quality of any I've tested, and by a long way. VERY LOW raw data error rate, especially compared to the Pioneers. Get a copy of PlexTools and check for yourself. 
 On the other hand, a highschooler could have made more intuitive menus. 
 Verdict: mixed bag. If you are looking for easy to use, then NO. If you will experiment and rewrite the manual, you get disks you can have confidence in.
