No great but not horrible. But you can?t expect a whole lot from a microphone in this price range. It is better than the on camera microphone.

Wonderful that this came as part of the camera kit. Super frustrating that when you install a new battery then flip the power switch on the power indicator turns red for .5 seconds then goes out. Was unable to get any sound out of the mic when plugged into my video camera.

Great mic (for a low priced mic). I got the mic for free when I bought my Sony MC88 camcorder. Tested the mic out for a shoot the last couple of days - it will work - great sound quality from even 11 feet away (in a quiet room). NOTE - put a AAA battery in, and turn on the ON/OFF switch to ON (even if the light does not stay on, the mic is on at that point) - this is for some commenters who were not picking up sound w/ the mic. Plugged into the MC88 it captures great sound. Rich, clear voices.

I chose an accessories package that included this microphone when I ordered my Canon XA40, and I'm glad I did. I've already used it to shoot 3 videos in the week I've owned it, and it sounds great. Easy to connect, attaches well to the cameras handle. The only thing I wish was different is that I wish the power light stayed on when I flipped the switch so I could know when my battery was good or dead.

I have been having some issues with this mic. For it to pick up a sound, you need to speak very loud even if you're holding 3 inches from your mouth. So I'm not sure what the problem is. I have a computer mic that picks up low sound from a 5-7 feet away, but this one can't pick up sound from 8 inches away. You have to scream!

Excellent mic - picks up sound well. Installing on my Nikon 5600 DSLR camera was easy. NOTE: Mic on only shows a flash of red (no red indicator light on when mic is on) but the mic works well.

I own a Marantz stereo hi-fi amplifier that I like very much. This mic was bought with the expectation that it will live up to the standard set by the amplifier. It comes with minimal instructions and was quite easy to set up. I decided to record my daughter's piano recital and the performance of the mic was no better than the DSLR (Nikon D610) built-in mic. I was about 10 feet from the piano and there is a constant background hum/noise that the mic kept picking up that my ear did not notice in the room. I tried different combinations of noise reduction setting, low frequency filter, and the wind baffle to no improvement. Tried to see if I can get help from Marantz and this model is listed as discontinued. I do want to try out some more outdoor work to see if it is any better in windy conditions. But overall I am disappointed with this mic.

Most regard the RODE VM+ as the standard, but given that I don't need a mic outside very much, and have a good set of lavs for inside, I didn't want to make the investment. So when I saw this on special I figured I'd give it a try. For the price it's absolutely outstanding. A little stronger on the low end than I'd like, but no noise and great clarity. A little tweak in editing makes it perfect.

If you have a low budget and looking for a solution with that budget. This mic is not bad for the price. I'm utilizing this mic on top of a Sony camcorder and iPhone. It's better than the iPhone mic and I feel the Sony AX series camcorder was warmer.
