From important documents to photos of friends and family, a good printer can help you share your digital life in the physical world. The best inkjet printers connect easily and print quickly.
Other features to consider are built-in WiFi, color vs B&W ink, print speed, and the ability to print double-sided documents. Some also have the ability to print directly onto special CDs and DVDs. Many printers have iOS and Android apps available, too, letting you print via your mobile devices.
What about photos?
Most inkjet printers can print photos. Some even specialize in it. These printers will come with additional ink colors—often three, sometimes more—for the most realistic prints. For best results, use specific glossy photo paper. Free samples of glossy photo paper often come in the box.
How many ink colors do I need?
Color printers use multiple inks to reproduce all the shades needed for lifelike photos and vibrant documents. At a minimum, there are four ink colors: cyan, yellow, magenta, and black. Combining these in different amounts lets the printer reproduce all the colors necessary in a photo. Cyan and yellow, for instance, make green. Some printers will have additional inks, including pink, blue, and light gray, to help make prints even more vivid, with finer color shades.
What’s an All-in-One printer?
An All-in-One is a printer, scanner, copier, and fax machine all in one unit. They’re typically larger than a standard inkjet printer, but they combine multiple units in one, which may even save you some desk space. In addition to the features listed above for regular printers, also keep in mind the scan resolution of an All-in-One. Some models also have automatic page feeders, WiFi, and easy settings for copying documents quickly.
What brands make printers?
When shopping for inkjet brands, consider popular brands like Brother, Canon, Epson, HP, and others, all available here at Adorama.
