Premium Product Cloth

I haven't had the chance to use this yet, but the quality appears to be very good. Definitely a better price point than other dark/focusing cloths I saw.

Great Product

Just what I was looking for. I don't have a medium- or large-format camera, but with a hook-and-pile closure at one end, it fills the bill.

Does just what I want

For DSLR work in LiveView...put a few basting stitches in it to make it fit more cape-like in a wind. Works great! Now to keep it clean in mud season in Upstate NY.

Great for tripod work in LiveView

As others have noted, the velcro is installed on the wrong side.  I simply added some 1 inch velcro squares.  I used super glue (gel) to attach the "hooks" pieces to the black side of the dark cloth. I attached the "fuzzy" pieces to the camera using the self-stick adhesive supplied on the velcro squares.  So far, so good!  The cloth is large enough for my Speed Graphic, and you certainly cannot beat the price unless you make a dark cloth totally from scratch.

Good Item - Easy to Customize

Do *not* purchase this if you plan to use it for real large format photography. It is not nearly large enough for even a 4x5 camera and the velcro seems to be on the wrong side to actually be useful. I have been using it for a month now and I can not wait to replace it with something a bit larger and with a better system for 'attaching' it around the camera. Perhaps a BTZS focus cloth.

If you are starting into, or getting back into large format photography, then this camera focusing cloth will not break the bank!  You already knew that photography was not cheap to get into.  However, I consider this to be very reasonable, and a breath of fresh air.  It fits perfectly over the camera, as well as your head, and shoulders.  This accessory is a no brainer!

Works well

The cloth is assembled upside down.  The velcro closure and non-slip pad are sewn onto one
edge of the WHITE side.  So when you rap it
around the camera, the BLACK side is uppermost..

Standing in the hot sun with a black, 100% synthetic cloth over your head is like being inside a sweat box.
It might be OK for the studio but no good for outdoor work in the summertime. 

For this reason, every modern focusing cloth I've ever seen is light colored (silver or white) on the outside, and black on the inside.

This cloth is small, so quite a bit of light gets past it--where the white side fails to aborb it.    That's another reason why the black needs to be on the inside.

I ended up buying two of these cloths, but both had the same problem.  And they are using white velcro, which suggests they meant to sew it to the white side. (however, the non-slip pad is black).  Perhaps it was a recent change, since the cloth pictured on the Adorma web page is red and black.

I plan to fold the front edge over and  sew it. That will make the cloth even smaller but at least it will be usable.  (Removing the two velcro strips and non-slip pad and sewing them on the other side would be possible, but would take hours to do.)

The label is marked "Made in China", so its understandable how this kind of miscommunication could happen. I hope Adorama gets it sorted out  with the manufacturer. The seams are well-sewn and the fabric is lint-free, so it's worth fixing (especially since this change is so easy and won't increase manufactuing costs).

There may not be many view camera photographers anymore, but at least with large format and view camera products there is no compeition from discount stores. It's good business for Adorma to continue to serve this niche market, or even expand its product offerings

Sweltering! Black on the outside, white on the inside

Seems fine but the Velcro doesn’t fit around my 4x5, which makes it difficult to manage when windy.

Could be larger.

As others have said, this is actually black and white, not black and red, which is not a problem, as I prefer the option of white on hot days. Although the velcro is oriented for use black-side-out, I've found I can use the cloth white-side-out by just folding the velcro edge over and attaching it to the camera as usual. Works just fine. There is a grey triangle on one corner of the cloth; I assume this is 18% neutral for metering purposes. If it meters close to a card, it might come in handy. If you need a fully enclosed elastic wormhole, this isn't the cloth for you, but as a basic focusing cloth it is perfectly serviceable for 4x5-5x7.

Great for large format photography

I used this focus cloth with my Nikon D500 in bright sunlight with my live view during the solar eclipse. It was fantastic, the only way I could focus and re-position my equipment accurately. Beats using a towel and baseball cap!

The cloth is adequate, however, it is not red/black, as pictured, it is white/black.

This is a basic dark cloth. It's size is ok for a 4x5 but wouldn't be large enough for anything bigger. 

The one I received was not red and black like the one shown but rather white and black. Unfortunatly, the velcro for snugging it around the camera is attached only to the white side making it difficult if not impossible to use the white side out and the black side in.  I wish the white side could be used out to reflect the sun and heat and the black in to make things a bit darker. Velcro on both sides would be a nice addition and I suppose you could sew on your own.

The black material is something akin to a nylon windbreaker and is very slippery to the touch. The white side is a bit softer and not as slippery but I have to snug the velcro really tightly to keep it from slipping off the camera.

There are no weights on this cloth. Wind will be an issue unless you add some of your own.

Overall, it's a dark cloth. It'll do what it's designed to do. For the price it's a decent "budget" accessory but you might do better to make one yourself for a similar cost.

Good quality cloth. The fabric is quite thick, so it is a little heavy. But that means it doesn't flap in the wind so much. Some people maybe find it a little too small, but it's ok for 4x5".
