Video Heads vs Traditional Tripod Heads
While tripod legs for photo and video are very similar, tripod video heads and photo heads are quite different. Photography tripod heads are traditionally either pan-tilt heads or ball heads, but in both cases, the tripod head is rarely in motion while the shutter is open.
Video heads need to provide stability while also making it easy to move or adjust the camera for more dynamic and engaging footage.
Movement
With a video tripod head, camera operators can move the camera in multiple directions more smoothly. Some video heads offer two directional movement with pan and tilt control, while others also allow for diagonal movement.
