Must have for any sky watcher. Perfect angle for looking skyward and feeling secure and stable. Would improve it with quick release knobs to fold tighter. Otherwise another must have Astromomy accessory.

A "must have" with a telescope at Star Watches. I never go anywhere without it. Very sturdy and the seat is quick and easy to adjust. I recommend the white version when using at night.

Only had it for a month but find it very useful. I just have to train myself not to try and move it from one position to another by grabbing the seat.

I am about 294 pounds and at first looking at this I thought it would slide from my weight but it does not. It holds me firm and is very stable. It takes just seconds to adjust to the height you want. Wish I had this long time ago.

The chair works, but it could be improved. First, it arrived poorly packed, and so the finish was marred (it shows on the white paint). Second, the rubber coating on the horizontal bar that provides the fiction to hold the seat in place wasn't centered, and so you're left wondering about overall quality (e.g., is the seat going to stay in place?). Finally, you have to disassemble it when you want to fold it, and that's a bit of a pain. Plus, you're left with several parts to keep track of. A bit of a disappointment--especially given the price point.

If you own a Dobsonian telescope, do not even try to stand and view through your telescope. You will have a broken back, within a couple of hours. This chair, literally saved my back. After two viewing sessions, without using this chair, my back was in extreme pain. All my problems vanished, as soon as I purchased this chair. It is extremally well built, easily adjustable, and very comfortable to use for long viewing sessions. Another, no brainer purchase. One tip, buy the white chair, it is easier to see at night. You will trip over the black chair, trust me.

It's great on these old bones and allows you to use your energy observing and not use it up doing yoga positions. It's very important not to have any of your weight on it when you adjust it as it can collapse it.

Quick ship - packaged well and only four bolts to install. Do not over-tighten bolts when installing. Instruction sheet was a faded photocopy. However with a little effort, good light and reading glasses - you could read it. With the seat set at low to mid height, don't lean forward without bracing your feet firmly on the ground. Or you risk losing stability. Oddly, setting the seat at higher levels, I find the chair most comfortable, and quite stable. Solid construction. There was a minor scrape to a leg - however during use I am sure to get more "aging". The seat had a minor blemish - a crease in the "leather". It will work its way out. And was probably due to compression while being stored in the shippers box. I am planning on using the Starboard Astronomy Viewing Chair for use with an equatorial mount (read: "mid height"), a standard mount (read: "low") for an 8" SCT fork mount, and a 12" dob (read: "high") The Starboard chair has the stability and versatility of meeting all of my seated viewing needs without having to strain my back.

I bought this chair on the advice of a friend and he was so right! Easy to set up and easy to use it's really saving my back and lets me spend more time observing comfortably at the telescope. Highly recommended.

I just bought this chair to save my back while at the telescope, and I'm impressed with how nicely it's made. I took it to a public event and it was really nice to have.

Very comfortable which was my main concern. Some astronomy chairs don't even have padding, ouch!

Perfect fo me for astronomy viewing. Really saves my back during those awkward positions for stargazing. My only criticism is it is difficult to transport as the seat cannot fold flat, but that is minor compared to the comfort it delivers.

This is a great chair. It is stable and very comfortable. The ability to adjust it to just the right height is a God send! I have had back surgery and have a lot of constant pain in my legs and back. Trying to twist and bend to use the finder and trying to stand bent over to see through the eyepiece was very difficult and painful. With this chair I can position it low or high or anywhere in between. And then sit comfortably at any height. While viewing and while using the finder. The seat is easily adjusted with one hand to any height you want and your weight locks it in place. The seat slides up and down to any height but does not fold which is unfortunate but even so it still folds fairly flat. You could always remove the seat if you needed to by removing one or both Of the two large hand knobs. I highly recommend this chair for anyone planing to use a telescope!

I've been using a chair that I made myself, but wanted something more compact for traveling. I am very impressed with the stability of the StarBound Chair and the high quality materials used. The only thing shy of perfection is that the seat must be removed by unscrewing the two large knobs that hold the slider bar to store the chair as flat as possible. The large knobs are easy to work so I won't deduct for this. Unlike other sliding seat chairs (including the one I built) the seat has just the right amount of friction and stays put when you want it to, but moves easily when you want to adjust it. The chair is very compact by not light weight. The steel tubing is strong and substantial. Overall I'm very pleased.

I purchased the chair for astronomy. Wanted it to use for comfortable viewing when leaning over an eyepiece for extended periods of time. The chair design and concept is good to accomodate my need. The manufacturing process and quality control needs to be improved. The seat has good padding, but was assemble very poorly, padding is on crooked to the seat base and seams are poorly aligned. When assemble the seat is at an angle to the slide bars. The wear strip was missing from one side of the slide plate making it difficult to slide the seat assembly up and down. For the money I paid for this product I am very disappointed in the overall quality.

I used this chair every clear night for about 3 years (before leaving it behind after one frustrating session). I'm now here to buy my second one. Before this I'd used several other types of astronomy chairs, the Starmaster and some wooden designs, but was always uncomfortable and often insecure in the footing. If there's a drawback at all to the Starbound, it's that the seat can be a little tricky to mount to the frame in the dark, but I gladly pay that small price for the stability and COMFORT (to my big butt) of this chair.

I am not a star gazer, but cannot stand for long. Those carry chairs and lawn chairs are to flimsy and low to the ground for me. Bad knees make it hard to get up. We go to Auctions and music in the park kind of outings. It is a little heavy but so much sturdier. I love it. Small enough we can move it around easy. Adjustable height so I can just take my weight off of my knees.
