Great variable ND

More expensive than many CPL’s. Worth it. When one uses this CPl, you do not necessarily see the sky (for example) turn a super-dark blue/Black as with other less expensive CPL’s I’ve used in past. The filter is certainly doing it polarization as designed, but seems to do it with more of a light touch, a little more finesse. And, you see it in the results.

I chose this Heliopan variable neutral Density filter for my Summicron 75 mounted on an M10 for wide open (f2) shooting in bright light. The 75 Summicron is known to flare in bright light conditions and the M10 is known to be slightly biased toward overexposure. Enter the Heliopan variable neutral Density filter set between 3 and 6 and the problem is solved. A great piece of gear that is very well made.

This ND filter has opened up a new world of possibilities for 0.95 Noctilux in daylight use.

This lens filter is the real deal. It makes shooting in the harshest of sun a dream. I can't believe I have waited so long to purchase it. I will be ordering the 77mm as well. Thanks to Adorama TV for sharing the video about this piece of equipment.

This is way easier to use than a fixed ND filter. Spin the dial out to the minimum and frame your picture, then spin it in to reach your desired shutter speed. Easy as pie. It's also a useful polarizing filter when dialed out to the lightest setting. I did, on some of my test shots, get alternating light and dark quadrants (Nikon D90 with 35mm f/2 lens) when the filter was dialed in to maximum, That may have been a fluke of lining up the polarisers with the sensor grid. Though backing off from the maximum a millimetre prevented that effect. The filter also doesn't have any threads on the front, so you'll have to pop off the filter before putting your lens cap back on. I found that when the filter was dialed in towards the dark end, I had to use Manual exposure mode and trial-and-error to set the exposure on both my D90 and D7000. In short, though, a very useful and handy filter to have -- and definitely worth the price

Best glass in the variable ND filters out there. Expensive, but good quality. It doesn't change color unless you push it to the limit.

Probably the best Variable ND Filter available. All the other Variable ND filter change the color/hue and destroy the sharpness. There really isn't any comparision. I got the 58mm size because all mys lenses have 58mm and smaller front threads. I keep 58mm stepup-rings and screw-on caps on at all times, as all my filters are 58mm as well. My only complaint is that it does not have front threads. The case is also pretty useless because it is not dust proof. And since this filter is extra thick it is hard to find a case for it. As I mentioned it does not have front threads so stack caps are also out of the quesiton.

This is indeed the best Variable ND Filter available. I purchased this 52mm size at first because I didn't want to spend all the money on a 77mm since I was using mostly 46mm, 49mm, and 52mm filter thread lenses anyway. As time went on I began acquiring lenses that were 55mm, 58mm, and 77mm.. I then purchased the Heliopan 77mm Variable ND Filter. Why? Because this is the BEST one out there! If I would have known from the beginning, I would have spent the money on a 77mm never looked back. It's one of the best investments I've ever made. Camera bodies and lenses come and go...but this filter is forever.
