Through the Lens (TTL) metering, with variable aperture, center-weighted TTL metering for flash exposure with systemcompliant SCA-3000/2 standard flash units
For metering the light reflected by light blades of the 1st shutter curtain onto a measuring cell: Strong center-weighted; for metering on the sensor: Spot, center-weighted, multi-field metering
(With ISO 200/24) At room temperature and normal humidity, corresponds to ISO 200 at aperture 1.0 EV0 to EV20 at aperture 32. Flashing of the left triangular LED in the viewfinder indicates values below the metering range
ISO 200 to ISO 6400, adjustable in 1/3 ISO increments, choice of automatic control or manual setting, PULL 100
Choice of automatic shutter speed control with manual aperture preselection - aperture priority A, or manual shutter speed and aperture setting
Using accessory shoe with center and control contacts or using SCA adapter set
Optionally triggered at the 1st or 2nd shutter curtain
1/180s; slower shutter speeds can be used, if working below sync speed: Automatic switching to TL linear flash mode with HSS compatible Leica system flash units
(With SCA-3502-M5 adapter or SCA-3000 standard flash unit, e.g. Leica SF 26/Leica SF 58) Control with centerweighted TTL pre-flash metering
2 silicon photo diodes with collection lens on the camera base
+/-31/3 EV adjustable in 1/3 EV; on Leica SF 58 +/-3EV adjustable in 1/3 EV increments in all modes
Ready: Constant illumination of flash symbol LED in viewfinder
Confirmation: Continued illumination or brief rapid flashing of LED after exposure
Underexposure indicator: LED temporarily goes out
Large, bright line frame viewfinder with automatic parallax compensation
Calibrated to -0.5 dpt.; corrective lenses from -3 to +3 diopter available
By activating two bright lines each: for 35 and 135mm, 28 and 90mm or 50 and 75mm; automatic switching when lens is attached; frame color (red/white) selectable in menu
The horizontal and vertical difference between the viewfinder and the lens is automatically compensated according to the relevant distance setting, i.e. the viewfinder bright-line automatically aligns with the subject detail recorded by the lens
At a range setting of 2m, the bright-line frame size corresponds exactly to the sensor size of approx. 23.9 x 35.8mm; at infinity setting, depending on the focal length, approx. 7.3% (28mm) to 18% (135mm) more is recorded by the sensor than indicated by the corresponding bright line frame and slightly less for shorter distance settings than 2m
0.68 x
Split or superimposed image range finder shown as a bright field in the center of the viewfinder image
47.1mm (mechanical measurement basis 69.25mm x viewfinder magnification 0.68x)
Four-digit digital display with dots above and below, displays
3" color TFT LCD monitor with 16m colors and 921,600 pixels, approx. 100% image field, max. 170 Degree viewing angle
Metal blade focal plane shutter with vertical movement
For aperture priority: (A) continuous from 32s to 1/4000s., For manual adjustment: 8s to 1/4000s in half steps, B: For long exposures up to maximum 60s (in conjunction with self-timer T function, i.e. 1st release = shutter opens, 2nd release = shutter closes). Flash (1/180s): Fastest shutter speed for flash synchronization, HSS linear flash mode possible with all
Flash (1/180s): Fastest shutter speed for flash synchronization, HSS linear flash mode possible with all shutter speeds faster than 1/180s with HSS-compatible Leica system flash units); for video recordings (aperture priority and manual mode): 1/30 to 1/4000s, for manual mode possible override of specified shutter speed to ensure correct exposure
By integrated motor

The Leica Rangefinder
System Seeing the Bigger Picture
Leica's unique M-System - whose name is based on the German term 'Messsucher', meaning rangefinder - has been making history for 65 years. The 'Messsucher' presents a bigger picture - a broader view of your subject - and opens up a whole new world of creative freedom: this enables the photographer to anticipate the way in which a composition might develop - and press the shutter at the decisive moment. Consequently, Leica M cameras are particularly suited to street and reportage photography. In addition, the rangefinder allows for a fast and precise focus, even in challenging lighting conditions.
The Iconic M Design
Visual and Tactile Perfection
The Leica M-E (Typ 240) is distinguished by a timelessly elegant aesthetic and high-end construction; each model is handcrafted in Germany. The compact camera body is dust and spray water resistant, while the genuine leather trim offers both a sophisticated appearance and a safer grip on the camera. Top and base plate are finished in an anthracite gray paint which has been developed especially for the M-E.
24-Megapixel CMOS Sensor
Image Quality without Compromise
The new Leica M-E ranks among the most compact full-frame camera systems in the world. Its 24MP CMOS sensor offers a high light sensitivity of up to ISO 6400 - facilitating outstanding image results even in low-light situations. Its 2GB buffer memory ensures that the Leica M-E is always ready to shoot, even when capturing a rapid succession of frames - so you can rest assured that you will never miss out on the decisive moment.
Integrated Video Function
Leica Look in Full-HD
Thanks to its exceedingly high resolution and light sensitivity, the Leica M-E delivers photographs imbued with the classic 'Leica look', characterized by a unique bokeh rendition. Owners of the new Leica M-E are also able to apply this distinctive quality to their moving images: the Leica M-E features a 1080p, full-HD movie mode - allowing you to capture stunning videos using a dedicated recording button, adding yet another dimension to your creative pursuits.
