The main purpose of an ND filter is to reduce the amount of light entering the camera lens without altering the color or contrast of the image. This allows for extended exposure times and greater control over depth of field, especially in bright conditions.
This ND filter is useful for digital photography because it helps manage the sensitivity of sensor chips on cameras with high minimum ISO settings. It allows photographers to use wider apertures and slower shutter speeds without overexposing the image.
A 0.8 density (2.6 stops) means the ND filter reduces the amount of light entering the lens by half, allowing for extended exposure times and greater control over depth of field.
No, this solid ND filter does not have any special coatings that could potentially affect image quality. It reduces light entering the lens evenly across the visible spectrum without altering the color or contrast of the image.

Filter is exactly as described. I used it to cut smaller pieces out for a Nikon 14mm f2.8 lens where the filters slide in at the mount end. You can fit one or two pieces of this material in the holder for 3 or 6 stops. Google it for sizing, though I cut it rectangular rather than square so there’s a place to handle it that won’t get finger oil on a the optical area. You can get 9 or 10! filters for the 14mm out of one sheet of the filter material.
