Such a great light stand!!!!!

What a great stand!!! We’ve had this thing for probably three years now, and it just holds up like a champ! Well made, nice quality materials. Probably had this on 20 photo shoots, mostly of children. This boom really helps position to higher and really low angles without any pole in the way. The only way this thing could be better is if you attached castor wheels, which I believe they sell.

Good Quality Boom Stand

I've been using this equipment more than a year, and recently bought another one. I definitely like to recommend this. I gave only three stars for this because when I got the package, a stud( or ratchet handle) was missing. Without the missing part, I cannot lock a boom arm and making it useless. I read some of reviews who bought in amazon, and some of the people also did not get the ratchet handle. So I assume it is common when you purchase Manfrotto products. Therefore, if you are going to buy, one should check that there is no missing part.

Buy it and be done

I own two of these, one black and one chrome. They support Rovelight R 600's w/beauty dish or 4' softbox. The larger wheels (the more expensive of the two options) are the ones to add. They are more compatible on carpet or other softer surfaces. Remove if outdoors on grass, etc. These stands are sturdy, well built and easy to use. If you value what your mounting on a stand, get the best, this one.

Sturdy, versatile, affordable

Slightly larger and heavier than purpose built light stands or booms, this convertible stand saves you from having to carry multiple pieces of gear. Works.

sturdy ,flexible and easy to use

The Manfrotto Boom Stand 420B is sturdy, flexible and easy to use. I recently used it to hang 30"x40" 1" thick foam core as a backdrop and hung the material with clamps. The boom stand worked flawlessly. It has a nice compromise between weight , size and stability. The maximum height that the boom arm comes out at is approx. 5 ft. I wish that it would have about another foot. (But then one would contend with more weight and lack of portability). so I guess it is a good compromise. I also used it with a 24 x 224 Lastolight softbox and was solid as a rock (without using the weight!). Great product!

Very Satisfied with this Stand

Metal construction is solid. Very intuitive and easy to use. Extends far enough. metal finish is nice. I use this product with a strobe and softbox. Note that the sandbag is BYO-sand. I would probably want a second sandbag if I were to extend the boom when working on unstable ground outside.

Very Nice

For the price point it is perfect, just make sure you have the proper counter weight to go with it. Can hold the weight it says and then some.

very good product

I bought 3 of these for use as a mobile studio in the strobist stle of photography. The boom is capable of taking a flash head and 40 cm softbox, although at full boom extension the boom exhibits some flexing. This is no problem however. I add extra weight to the stand legs when doing this. Manfrotto makes a solid product. I still use a manfrotto tripod i bought 30 years ago, so hopefully will not need more light stands for quite some time.

Manfrotto Boom Stand 420

I don't have any other 'boom' stands, so can't compare, but I am very happy with mine so far. It's the same quality as other Manfrotto non-boom stands, of which I own three. I have mine supporting a Nikon SB800 and a 36 inch umbrella. It seems very sturdy, and setup was simple. The clamps hold tight. I like that I can get the umbrella directly over the subject, and fairly high.
