Review Summary

I bought this from the kickstarter campaign during pre launch to use in conjunction with my 45L travel backpack. I used the new 2 in 1 40L travel pack and it is more convenient now to deploy the smaller day pack instead of having to pack an additional day pack on top of my carry on and personal item. The new straps are padded and you can now tuck the straps inside with out them falling out the sides like the previous bag. You can also disconnect them . The straps are way more comfortable since they have better padding.

I have a number of Peak Design bags, and this is the best one I've found for my EDC. I've used it on two trips since getting it and it's been perfect for my business trips. The 2-in-1 is great for organization and for convenience. Recommend for anyone who wants simple travel.

So, I know giving things less than 5 stars can be seen as a terrible review to most people, so I'd like to preface this that this is three stars for me, and your individual results may vary. When I ordered this on kickstarter, I was looking for a bag that could do everything. I needed it to be big enough to carry my work boots, work clothes, water bottles coffee, etc, but also be able to carry my laptop, tablet, and camera when I travel. I currently have a backpack from a different company that can do that, but I wanted something... better. When Peak Design came out with this 2-in-1, I thought it was what I had been looking for; big enough to take all my things with me, but able to separate, so I could carry around my smaller items when I got to my destination. For me, this backpack doesn't fit the bill. Can it store everything I need it to? Absolutely, but I feel it's a bit clunky. My previous backpack had very intuitive interior pockets I could put my airpods, my wallet, and computer peripherals. The 2-in-1 has a lot of the same pockets, but because the backpack is essentially split in two, they're in different pockets that I fund cumbersome to sort through. This backpack is also very large and doesn't like to be "squished" into tight spaces. It's high quality, and I appreciate that, but when I get to work I can't stuff it into a corner of my desk like I'm used to. It has to kind of... lay out there like luggage. Finally, one of the main reasons I got this was to be able to pack my camera gear, in the PD camera cube, along with me when I travel. Then my hope was that I could transfer just my camera and a single lens for day journeys. Well, the smaller backpack is like, really small. I will say I haven't tried to stuff my larger camera in it, but it looks like it's going to be a struggle. If you're reading this and think that this is written by a prima donna, that's fair. This may really be the perfect backpack for some other people, but for me I fear that it's going to be another in the long line of bags that sit unused in my office while I wait for something perfect.
