Questions & Answers

Marney H : I was told it would work with my Nikon D3500 and I get a message saying it is not conpandable. What am I doing wrong?
DHANY L : If I use this lens with Nikon D80, Do I need separate Light Meter or Light Meter in Nikon D80 works with this lens?Wayne H : I do not have a D80 camera, however, the light meter in the D700, D800, and D810 all work with this lens. I would assume that the meter would work with the D80.KRISTER K : I dont own a d80 I have used it on a d3300 and a d5500 and it's very simple , after attaching the lens to the camera look down and make sure that the appature ring is fully rotated to the right to the red number f22 at the top of the lens , now the camera will read the f setting you have but even better you can forget about the aperture ring and adjust it using the camras regular controles this lens is fully automatic except for focusing, have funRONALD G : The built in light meter in your camera will work with this lens. You may have to set your camera to manual, as this lens will not set the aperture on its own.
ARON J : I put this on my Nikon D7100 and flipped the AF/M switch to M but when I turn the focus ring nothing happens. The picture doesn't change focus. What am I doing wrong???GIBRAN V : I used it in a D3200 with no problems at all... I'm planning to get a D7100 soon so it's good to hear about this issue.. please post it if you figured out how to fix it... Thanks!ED B : Hope this helps - Try focusing on some text from about a foot away until it is sharp. Then reverse the focus out - you should see some loss of sharpness. If not, then you may should return the lens or have someone take a look at it. Problem is the DOF is so great with this lens. I usually put the aperture at 6.3 or 8, focus on the scale at about 2.5ft and never touch the focus ring again on that shoot. EdMARK A : I have this setup as well you aren't doing anything wrong. The camera body AF switch should be on M and what you are experiencing as a problem is more than likely just a function of the lens. At 8mm the lens has an extremely deep depth of field as in, almost everything is in focus always. If you are photographing something I think it is 2ft away or more, you can set the lens to infinity and everything will be in focus. You don't focus back and forth as you would a regular lens as there is such a deep depth of field. So take some pictures with this in mind and check around the picture. If things are still out of focus then you may have a defective lens though chances are what I explained is what you are experiencing. Good luck, this lens is quite fun and a great deal.HORST S : Two possible reasons: 1. As an extreme wide-angle lens, almost everything is in focus, no matter what. Exception: very close-up objects. So, does your statement apply for those? If yes, go to 2. 2. If true even for close-up objects, your particular sample of the lens is faulty. Send it back.KRISTER K : This is a full manual focus lens ,you have to look carefully in the View finder it does show the green focus dot when Things are in focus, also by turning the aperture ring all the way to the right you can control the aperture with the camera fails, if you have difficult focusing in the view finder ,select live view on the screen and use zoom function and then focus the lens that way , works great on a tripod , you can be incredibly close to a subject and still get the surrounding in the picture, try see how close you can go on a tree trunk, great fun lensSHELDON H : Its focusing, but the dept of field is so great, you can't tell. Just set it to 1 meter @ f8 of11 and shoot away ????ERIC M : You're not doing anything wrong actually.. The focus is very fine.. I suggest you get the image you want with your viewfinder then switch over to your LCD screen and digitally zoom in on whatever object you're trying to shoot and just the focus from there... Best of luck ????RONALD G : The depth of field on this lens is extremely deep, and it's difficult to see the difference in focus. Use the focus aid arrows in the lower left of the viewfinder while focusing. When the camera detects accurate focus, the left/right arrows will change to a spot. I have the same camera & lens, and this method works.

A fun fisheye lens

This was a surprise gift for me at Christmas. It's kind of fun to play with. I took a few images of clouds right after sunrise this morning and got this shot. I am anxious to try it on stars some night. It also comes with a new padded lens pouch.

Good for astro photography.

Works well with my D3300, but my wife had difficulty on her D3500 - the camera would not recognize the lens. I was able to use in purely manual mode, but she wanted proper inter-operability.

One of the two lenses that's ALWAYS in my (APS-C) camera bag.

I love the look of this lens on an APS-C Camera. I purchased the 12mm version for my full-frame camera. Unbeatable at this price point.

Budget compact, relatively sharp ultrawide rectilinear DX fisheye lens

A respectable budget-value, compact, relatively sharp ultrawide rectilinear DX fisheye lens. Has significant and design-expected distortion which can be corrected to some extent with post-processing. Definitely a great value lens to have in your kit.

Good product for what it does but not very sturdy. Focus ring feels very cheap.

Fun!

Very fun lens to use! Not too hard to manually focus since it’s so wide-angle.

Fun with a Fish ?? Eye ??

Sharp as a tack. Too much fun. Have used in on both my D500 and D850. Fills the sensor on the 500, but not the full frame 850. Can’t use the supplied lens shade on the full frame camera. A steal for the $$$$.

Get one. You will like it

Excellent value. Nice lens to play around. You have to use it to get used to it. Took it out to the barn to get unusual pics of my goats. Got a little to close and she licked the unprotected lens. Cleaned up ok. It's fun to see what you can do with it. Nice addition to my lens collection.

we highly recommend this product

Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye. This lens was purchased to give me a wider view of coverage, for some of our cropped sensor cameras, but also to shoot some artistic images with our full frame cameras. The lens has a solid build, and for the size of the lens, it very good feel to it. Attachment to the various camera bodies worked with no problems, and the aperture ring was very solid, reminding me of lenses before the day of digital. Focus was smooth. Keep in mind, that since it is an 8mm lens, your subject may appear sharp no matter where you focus, so my recommendation is to use live view to focus the image.Color and exposure seemed spot on with no real vignetting of the edges. Image shapes seemed best at f5.6 - f8.The lens we purchased has a detachable hood, which is a great feature when shooting with a full frame camera. You will not get a full 180? file, but it's pretty close with the hood removed. The model with the mounted hood, does vignette most of the image when shooting with a full frame camera, so we chose the removable hood. The real only downside to this lens was the hood. It seems a bit loose when installed on the lens, not having a very secure feel to it. That is the only reason we did not give this 5 stars. As for price point, it's a great value! Having been in the business as a professional since 1978, we never really had a need for a fisheye lens, so the price made this very attractive to purchase, figuring we will only use this on rare occasions when we need that super wide lens. All in all, we highly recommend this product.

bargain access to stretching my skills

Been around, and began when all was manual; though I never ventured into the realm of fisheyes, until now. I was missing out! This lens is a sharp, inexpensive, no frills way to stretch both your skills and creativity. No regrets.

Great lens for night photography

This is my first Rokinon lens (I chose this lens over other brands because it was on sale) and thus far I am impressed. This definitely won't be my last Rokinon lens. I have used it for landscape, city shots and night photography. When photographing anything close you have to be careful that what you want clear is in focus because it is difficult to see in the viewfinder and if it is slightly off you can have a face out of focus and the shoulders in focus, etc. When shooting anything farther away the focus can be turned to infinity and all will be fine.

Rokinon makes great quality lenses at great prices, but compatibility may be an issue

My Rokinon 14mm, f/2.8 is one of my favorite lenses on a Canon 5DIII. I bought this 8mm to use on a Canon EOS M since it is an APS-C sensor, but the camera shutter will not release when mounting this lens using an adaptor. I returned it. It is probably a great lens, but not if you want to use it on a Canon EOS M.

A really fun lens for FX cameras

I have in the past made full circle fisheye lenses, but they always where kludges. This lens works well and is nice an compact. If you use it in DX mode it is full frame, but if you make your camera remain in FX you get the fishes circular effect. While this isn't something you need al the time it is a very playful lens for a lot of scenes. Images will need a bit of work to remove the color fringing at the circumference of the image, where there is a blue color fringe between the image and the black un-exposed portion of the frame. I am always impressed with the build quality of the Rokinon lenses. For the price they are nicely constructed and function smoothly. The focus confirmation chip on the Nikon models work well and enhances the usability of these lenses.

Great for a beginner

As someone who is a begginner to photography, I don't want to spend a ton of money on things I don't know how to use correctly yet. This was perfect, easy to use, and I got nice results. Very affordable for the newbie!

Really cool lens

And it was so much cheaper than the Closest comparable Canon. but it was stolen, so now I'm looking for a replacement. Like the rectilinear image it produces when used on a crop sensor camera...but the effect with full frame is really cool, if specialized

great, fun lens

I have been waiting to purchase this lens as I already have a 16mm Nikkor fisheye, however that will not work with an APS camera. In an effort to travel lighter, I have been using mostly APS and leaving D800 at home. After researching and not wanting to buy Nikkor or Sigma for $$$, I took a chance on this lens and it delivers. Really don't need auto focus for a fisheye. Love it. Small thing to consider, it does not focus as close as costlier lenses.

Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 HD fisheye, manual Focus Lens with removeable Hood for Nikon

I bought it for my 20 year old daughter for Christmas, since she is taking photography as one of her art classes. after testing it out, she likes it. Since she likes it, then I like it . she is very fussy with details and apparently this fit the details she was looking for.

I could not believe a lens in this price range could be so great. Yes it is all manual but on my 7D exposure is automatic or manual as I choose which is unique on Canon cameras. What a find and buy.

Love it!

I first ordered same brand but slight different model. It was a bit cheaper but it was so basic that it has a non removable hood and did not have a chip so it only worked on M and S modes, which was too limited for what I needed. This has worked great so far. The lens has a good built quality and it is definitely worth to pay extra to have the removable hood and the chip to use all the camera modes.

Almost half the world in one shot

I've been using this lens for a couple of weeks now. It's not for the faint of heart but if you like to experiment and understand the ramifications of using a fisheye lens, this is an inexpensive route to go. The images my lens produces are very acceptable, especially if the lens is stopped down 2-3 stops. Depth of field makes spot-on focusing tricky but that's the nature of this lens. All in all, I really like what this lens can do - especially at the price.

FEATURED REVIEWS

Yes, this is a fun lens!

By JASON F.

This is my first “unique” lens. I read and watched many reviews before deciding to purchase this one. The reviews I saw described this lens spot on, no surprises from using it. Is it sharp at 3.5? No. Does it improve when you step it down? Yes. It appears and feels like a more expensive lens. It is fun experiencing a new perspective, my kids love seeing the pictures of themselves taken with this lens. For the money I can’t imagine more fun in photography than using this lens. One of the Best Fisheyes for APS-C Sensors

By Anthony C.

I'd like to say that for the price, this is one of the best 8mm Fisheye's for APS-C sensors out there. However, that's inaccurate. This is actually one of the best fisheyes out there, period. To my eye, the barrel distortion from this lens is one of the most pleasing and "natural" of all the APS-C fisheyes out there. While the central image is bulged and the edges compressed, (which is one of the reasons to get a fisheye!) the spherical edge compression of this lens has a more balanced distri...

With hybrid aspherical elements and multi-layer coating, you will produce sharply defined images with a minimum of flare and ghosting.

The 8mm lens focuses as close as 12" (30.48 cm) from the lens. This version of the 8mm f/3.8 Fisheye lens comes with a removable lens hood that will offer glare reduction and lens protection, but can be removed to offer an increased and unobstructed angle of view when shooting with full frame digital or 35mm cameras.
