I use a pair of ME66/K6 with a pair of R0DE NTG-3 similar gun type microphones in a 4 mic array for recording distant wildlife sounds and have made some fantastic recordings of Screech Owls at night with this setup. While the NTG-3 is a comparable mic, the fact that the ME66/K6 has an internal battery instead of requiring phantom power gives the ME66/K6 a definate edge for the same quality of sound. In the future I will purchase the ME66/K6 to replace the NTG-3 mics.

The ME 66 is a short gun microphone capsule designed for use with the K6 and K6P powering modules. It is especially suitable for reporting, film and broadcast location applications and for picking up quiet signals in noisy or acoustically live environments as it discriminates against sound not emanating from the main pick-up direction. Matte black, anodized, scratch-resistant finish.
