First timer for noise canceling headphones

I bought this two weeks ago from amazon about £100 off the retail price which I was happy about. Initial unboxing of the product, I liked as I watched YouTube videos thinking they’d look a bit big around the face but they weren’t. The noise cancelling works well, was kinda amazed how well they worked as I’ve never used any noise cancelling headphones. Overall I’d recommend even though the price is a bit up there.

Great headphones.

Had these bought for christmas. First impressions are excellent. Straight from the box I loved the travel case which should by the looks of it stand the rigours of travel. Sound quality for me is excellent and I like the fact that you are not replacing batteries every time it needs recharging. They work superbly without the noise cancelling. The noise cancellation appears to work very well but I have not used them as yet for the purpose they were purchased which is aircraft noise. I will be flying alot over the next few months and hopefully they are as good in the air as on the ground. If I am able I will comment again after my first trip.

Work Really Well

I purchased these headphones because I wanted some over ear headphones with noise cancelling capability, initially for use on a flight from Florida and then for use on trains and other plane journeys, where background noise can be intrusive. They are extremely comfortable to wear, even for a long time (best part of 8 hours on the flight), and the noise cancelling performance is superb. It made watching films on the plane an absolute pleasure, whereas when travelling out to Florida, before I bought the headphones, I could barely hear the sound track on the films. The sound clarity and range is excellent, and overall these headphones, although quite expensive, are superb, and worth the money.

Fantastic DSP

For the purists requiring an unadulterated signal at the headphone plug, they have to consider that there has always been acceptance of passive sound processing with speaker systems by way of using several speakers with different frequency bandwidth requirements and different attenuation settings in one enclosure to make the resultant frequency spectrum as flat as possible. Therefore, why not accept some DSP processing for headphones. Due to size limitations in headphones, only one speaker is included which is required to recreate a very wide bandwidth. With little air required to be moved, this can easily be accomplished. But, what about the whiteness or flatness of the spectrum over all frequencies? How can we ask one speaker to sound like a speaker system. Only way is to adjust the signal to push the headphone speakers into a flat response is through DSP. I am now enjoying the result of DSP for headphone by way of my Sony MDR-1RNC MK2 headphones which include : Digital Noise canceling technology S-MASTER™ Digital Amplification DSEE Beat Response Control Have only a very general understanding of how each of these processes are used. Understandably, not much detail from Sony. The phones in the off position sound low frequency boomy. Probably engineered that way to compensate for the low frequency signal loss when the noise cancellation is turned on. With the phones switched on however, the music just seems to come alive with more detail and soundstage. Don’t know how that happens, but I like. Great low frequency response. Plucked guitar strings have a very nice transient response. Beautiful sound. I’m familiar with image processing and can understand that there might be some algorithms that could improve what our ears hear as opposed to our eyes.

So, it's sound you want, eh?

OK, are they a bit pricey? Yup, but if you want the best, you know the rest of the story. Performance, physically they have outstanding comfort and controls. The sound is frankly, surprising and once again, outstanding. Over all, I'd not only recommend them but if a close friend was in the market. I'd force em to get these, the best headphones I have ever owned. Sony has outdone themselves with their Digital Noise Canceling Headphones.

Great headphones

The headphones it self is very good in my opinion, the sound its great and the nc is absolutely perfect in my opinion except when its windy or biking... but all nc headphones have that problem... The design is without dough perfect. I have to let you guys know. Some who wrote review also mentioned The headphones are REALLY sharp in the high frequency. (Kind of hurt while listening) So I set the equalizer on the 14K and above really low and it works great. But for the price of these headphones, its a shame that they set it so bright on the high end... Sry for the bad english, isnt my base language and kind of have exam tomorrow so dunt really have time xD

Best Sounding Headphone as a Noise Canceling area

Bought this as special offer price(349+Tax) at metrotown Sony store. I was looking for NC headphones that sounds also good. I tried Beat Studio2, Bose QC15, 3 and I found them they are way too bassy for me. I am audiophile so I cares about sound quality a lot and when I listened MDR-1rnc, I was Stunned. I never listened NC headphone that sounds really good. They sound very natural and balanced. but There is quite big emphasize on high frequency area around 10khz. So some people will find it too bright or too aggressive. Try them before you buy because of these emphasized high frequency. NC works Good overall but when its windy day, NC function actually amplify wind noise. Therefore I recommend to use this headphone inside of train, air plain or inside of noisy building. You will find very anointed by wind noise if you use this on the road in windy day.

Amazing

I got these the Sony head phones because I was tried of the cord on my ear buds getting in the way when I went to the gym, and even walking around my house. I use these head phones at the gym and they fit great. I don't feel like their going to fall off or worry about them getting in the way. The price is a little high but they are worth the price. If your in the market for new headphones I would say these will not let you down.

Great compromise between good sound and NC

This headset is ideal for someone who wants simply the best of both sound quality and noise cancellation beyond all else. however it comes at a price, literally and figuratively. The biggest draw back being the size and the weight, the NC500(600)D is already on the large side compared to most of its competitors, the 1RNC go even further, taking up an entire section of my travel bag. Another drawback is the "stylish" rods on the back of the ear piece, because the rods sticks out behind slightly, they actually hit the pillow when sleeping while face up, which adds a bit of uncomfortable pressure. On the other hand because the side is relatively flat and large, the 1RNC is better to sleep with on the side of the head then the NC500(600)D. The the biggest improvement has to be the fact that the 1RNC actually works as a regular headphone when the battery runs out, you have no idea how many times i had to use the cheap $2 headphone they give you one planes to watch the movie because the battery died. All in all and good upgrade from the NC500(600)D, but I just wished Sony did a few minor changes to the NC model to make it better suited for traveling purposes.
