YUNLONG N : Where is this headphone made in?MARIO DANIEL C : These are made in ThailandDEEPAK K : The headphone is Made in ThailandNICHOLAS C : Not important...what's important is that they have a frequency response of 5 Hz-30 kHz. I highly recommend this productDOUGLAS B : Mine says Thailand. FUN F : Thailand, on the box. I have enjoyed these corded headphones. They perform well, especially for the price!
Shopper : What are differences between the MDR-V6 and the MDR-7506?FUN F : Basically, the V6 is for listening, the 7506 is more for monitoring in a studio. The 7506 picks up background noise like hiss, etc, what engineers are listening for in checking the quality of their recording vs the V6. For a more detailed discussion, check out Ken Rockwell's website. Ken reviews both of these headphones separately. I have the V6 and think it is a good, economical pair of headphones.MATTHEW O : I can't help you, since I have not heard the MDR-7506, only the MDR-V6 I bought.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?JOE S : I have had good luck with Sony products. They are within my budget. I also like the coiled audio cable.MATTHEW O : These had good reviews, and they sound fine. I wear a hearing aid in one ear and I was getting frequent feedback in that ear. This was annoying and I returned these head phones. But they did have good sound except for the feedback. The feed back is a common problem for people who wear a hearing aid and it limits your choices in suitable headphones.

Headphones with an atitude!

They're Sony. What else do I need to say! Seems like a good product--have only used them a few times for their intended purpose, which is video editing. As others have mentioned, the wire between phones seems a little flimsy so I'll try to be careful. A protective sleeve might have been expected for a part that is so vulnerable. The one thing that really made me say, "Wow," though, was the packaging. Take my word for it, it's over the top!

Sound as good as my MDR-7506 set

These seem to work as well as my MDR-7506 set. Using the V6 set solely for recording music. Very comfortable. No discernible bass, treble or high-end bais in recorded vocals or guitar. The reason for 4 vs. 5 stars:Upon ordering in November, I was apprised of a backorder status for these. I proceeded with the order. Two weeks later I got an email saying they were still on backorder. Option was to cancel or continue. I chose to continue. Unfortunately, by the time the order was fulfilled I was gone for the holidays. I called Adorama and the agent informed me that since both UPS and USPS were involved it would not arrive until after I would be home. Of course, UPS delivered it in record time and long before the agent said it would arrive. Fortunately, I was able to get someone to retrieve them. Adorama should have a policy of providing you a review of destination before shipping a backordered item especially around Christmas when people often travel.

Very comfortable .

Picks up every background sound. Sometimes that's a good thing and sometimes bad.

These headphones are exactly what I need for the quality and clarity I demand. In my opinion they are up there with other brands costing twice as much!

Durability and excellent sound

We purchased our first set of Sony MDR V6 headphones in 1991. Since that time we have purchased two additional sets. Using a Sony stereo receiver connected to our iMac, the V6 sound through the receiver is significantly improved over direct connection to the computer. For almost 25 years the V6 has been our preferred headphone.

25 years plus and still going strong

I bought my MDR-V6 headphones in the 1980's. I'm not sure of the year but I know it was several years before the internet became a household thing. Through 25 plus years of service these headphones have been nothing but outstanding. They were head and shoulders above the competition when I bought them and they still sound great. I haven't bothered to check what other phones sound like in a while because it's pretty much impossible to best the phones I have. I have other headphones of course but none have the natural sound and complete sound of these Sony phones. They are simply the best. Loudspeakers have improved a lot over that time period but not headphones. I don't see how they could. I think my grandchildren will be listening to these headphones and wondering how Sony got it so right so long ago.

Industry standard for 30 years

I created an account purely for writing this review, that's how good the V6s are. This product has been on the market for 30 years and are probably the most widely-purchased, budget studio headphone in studios all over. There have been many accounts of this and the 7506 sister-model withstanding over 20 years of use. The only thing is that these earpads only last a few months before they rip and flake, but Beyerdynamic DT250 velour replacements fit perfectly, are reasonably priced, and are much more durable. These headphones were temporarily off the site and with that listing went all of the old reviews, so this first paragraph was meant as a recap. I got my personal pair two years ago and I use them every day and bring them everywhere at college. The V6s are a bit bulky but I am willing to sacrifice portability for sound quality. Despite taking care, my earpads only lasted six months so I upgraded to the aforementioned earpads. I did not hesitate in buying the $20 pads because I knew I'd get my money's worth with the headphones. After two years, the headphones and new earpads are not showing signs of weakening or wear. They are the best headphones I have ever had and this will probably be true for a long time. Value-wise, competition is finally becoming fierce after 30 years but these headphones still hold their own. As I said earlier, the V6s were off the website for a while so I panicked and got another pair lest my current one gives out in the coming years, but it's nice to see that they're back. Sound-wise, these are great. I admit that these are the most expensive headphones I own, but for my purposes, I need not spend any more. From what I've tried at various shops, this price and this quality is hard to match. I don't feel the need to spend twice as much to get a marginal increase in quality, but then again, that's just me. Like I said, the competition is catching up, but it's still extremely rare to find a relatively low-priced studio monitor headphone with this flat of a frequency band. They may seem a tad flat and un-colored compared to other listening-based 'phones and the bass is NOT boosted (I find it gets drowned out on the bus) but the V6s are perfect for their purpose. The high-end response is crystal clear and the sound stage is satisfyingly wide. Sitting in my room alone with the music cranked up, these things really come alive. Thanks for reading my long review. TL;DR - You won't regret buying a pair. Oh, and I happen to have my trusty pair of V6s pounding away as I write this.

28 YEARS OF PRODUCTION MUST MEAN SOMETHING!

I originally purchased these headphones at work back in the summer of 1994. At that time the headphones were already in production for 9 years! The headphones lasted me until 2005 with my oldest son using them on a daily basis. Needless to say by that time they fell apart from abuse. I replaced them with a pair of Grado SR60’s which I still use today (after repairing them a few times). I also own various other headphones which I enjoy, but remembered the Sony’s as being very robust. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when I saw the V6’s were still for sale!?!? I was like…what? I soon realized Sony was stopping production on these headphones (after 28 years) and had to buy a pair, if just for nostalgia. Right out of the box they brought a smile to my ears, if that’s possible…I also own a pair of Audio Technica ATH M50’s which have a bit more in the low end but the Sony’s hang in there admirably. This is by far the most affordable reference monitoring headphone you can buy…by a long shot. The sound leakage is nominal to the person next to you and the sound quality is flat. Flat in an open sort of way…You can hear the buzz of the overdriven tube stage on a guitar amp if you listen close enough. Voices and woodwinds have plenty of air around them, and you can tell if the vocalist is breathing through their mouth or nose. Yep good stuff… get them while you can and enjoy. Sony has restarted production of these cans after people complained about deleting them from their product line. Thank you Sony for listening to your customers! Buy them...they are that good!

Best Headphones EVER!!

The Sony MDR-V6 provides deep, rich high quality sound and they are better than competitors that cost over double the price. I even dropped mine into the water once (briefly), pulled them out, let them dry out and they still worked just as well as they always had. I'm not saying all products can withstand that but I was grateful for the quality withstanding a quick water dunk. A friend purchased me a set of "Beats" last Christmas and I gave them back to him because I didn't want him to waste his money. I would have never used them. They weren't even close to (cheap sound) my Sony MDR V6 and it was clear they were only popular because of their marketing campaign. I stuck with my Sony headphones and I do not regret it. Sony in general provides VERY high quality audio equipment. They have their 'entry level' line too but if you are willing to pay just a few percentage points more they quality you receive in return is DEFINITELY worth it. It would take quite a bit to make me change my mind. Sony is always first on my list for electronics in general.

Awesome Headphones

I had the same Sony Headphones, only they were a MDR-V4, which I got in the 1980's for use with my keyboard. When looking for a newer pair, I found the MDR-V6, which look like the newest of this model, and the sound quality is even better! I will use these often.

Fantastic for the Music Studio

I've had two pair of these. Very true sound reproduction when compared to playing the music through top end audio monitors. Perhaps a bit more bass through the headphones, and I have 18" drivers in the monitors, but it is a very close match. Nice long coil cord with 1/4" jack.

A true headphone " industry-standard".. a MUST!

Up today I own about 25 headphones, and 3 of them are MDR-V6... why ? I always said and still say to my self... buy another one...before they will be superseded by a new model.... That's what happened with the 7506 and later models which, in my opinion sound not "warm" as the V6. Probably because of the new neodimium magnet (instead of the old Samarium-cobalt). True "flat" and neutral sounding, very deep Bass reproduction, focalized medium, and true WARM high frequencies... Even more they are really confortable, durable ( my older one -1989- is still PERFECT) moderate weight, fold-up design with a nice leather bag, classic nice shape and a long-strong twisted "oxygen-free" copper chord... If you need something more...you may probably need to spend more than 200$. An "historycal" but still present "Industry -Masterpiece".....

15+ years and still going strong

I've had these headphones for ages now and finally changed the ear pads out. Not sure why i waited so long to change them out but it had made them comfortable to wear for hours at a time. Before with the Old Stock pads i would start to have ear pain after just 20 minutes of use. Dang i love these headphones even after 15+ years of use.

Listen to music the way its meant to be heard.

I've owned a pair for a year & a half. These headphones can make you hear sounds in your music which you never thought existed. The resolution of different instruments is nothing short of amazing. There's no extra punch in the bass and you'll get to hear the clear tight bass only where the musician intended you to (i.e. high quality precise bass). Be it techno, metal, classic or jazz, you hear the sound the way it was made. But be clear with the concept that these are not magic headphones !!!! You only get to hear what you input. So, if you play low bitrate music files, you get to hear low quality sound. But play FLAC or 320 kbps mp3 files and you get to hear sounds from heaven (BE CAREFUL!! You could die from sheer pleasure :D) The only bad thing, as I mentioned in the beginning, is the original earpads. Mine got worn out within the first year. Then I bought the Beyer Dynamic Velour Earpads, which actually doubled the hearing pleasure. My advice would be to buy the Beyer Dynamic earpads as soon as you buy the headphones and replace the original ones.

I've read many reviews about the earcups wearing off, but having had this pair of headphones for 5 months, that hasn't happened yet. The sound quality is amazing and makes even some of the not-so-nice songs actually sound decent. I've tossed these headphones around a billion times and dropped them a couple times. but the quality still remains great. I expect these to last at least several more years.

a amazing headphone!

These are quite frankly the best headphones I've ever heard!. 1:) First glance- the packaging is so nicely done, the headphones are cradled in this red cloth, that really compliments the headphones sitting in their box. I've NEVER seen something like this in headphones, even in my AKG K701, which cost a heckuva lot more. 2:)the headphones- these seem very well made, solid construction, the coiled cord is a nice touch, and is also solid, and very heady duty. the earpads are comfortable, and they isolate outside noise very well. The raised silver Sony logo, and the headphone model text is a nice touch, all of these qualities make the V6 seem, and feel like it's 10 times more expensive than it really is. 3:) acoustic performance- these simply sound great, pitch perfect across the frequency spectrum, treble is produced with exceptional clarity, and it's silky, not screechy like sennheisers, or muddy, muffled, or non existant like dre beats. Mid range is powerful, clear, and accurate, with vocals I have never heard vocal reproduction as well as these produce. Bass is tight, very controlled, and well mannered, it doesnt bark at you, nor is it weak, they hit hard when the song needs it, go super low when needed. Unlike the beats which is muddy, hollow, and too reverberating. in closing- these are simply the best i've heard so far out of about 30 headphones I've owned. I saw these at a music store when I was about 6, or 7. I begged my mom for these, of course the answer was a big NO!. Im glad they sound as good now, as they did then.

Good sound, but...

After reading so many glowing reviews, I jumped on the bandwagon. The sound quality is definitely the product's strong point, though if you primarily listen to MP3s, and they were not encoded in the best manner possible, this headset will punish you for it with mediocre sound. One gripe I had with this set is that it fits a bit too tight, so it is not really ideal for extended use, because it causes discomfort to your years. Benefit is a nice sound isolation and insulation. But for me, it wasn't worth it. So if you have larger than average head, or tend to have your headset on for hours on, think hard before you but this product. The set also has pretty high quality looking construction going for it. The coiled cable is extra thick for durability, portions of ear cups are made of metal, it feels pretty solid, and the mini jack is of high quality. BUT, mine broke after a year, with very few gentle uses. Left speaker went dead, and it doesn't appear to be any of the connections. Maybe I got a bad batch. But Sony's 90 day warranty is laughable. Based on reading through hundreds of review, the failure rate has been going up on this product, so don't put too much stock into reviewers who bought the product 10 years ago. I'm rather disappointed needless to say.

These Are Older Than I Am

These headphones were purchased secondhand by my parents sometime shortly after they came to the US in '85. I was born in '90, and I am currently listening to them right now. They have traveled around the world several times worth, to 4 continents, used in sub-freezing temperatures to and from class, to hot, sweaty clubs when doing live sound for shows. They have been thrown across studios, dragged through hallways, and have lulled me to sleep nearly every night for the last 8 or so years. And they still sound as good as they did the first time my dad let me put them on. After several earpad replacements, I eventually settled with a custom modified set, which has held up much better than the stock pads, which flake and get all over the place. At this rate, I expect to be buried with this pair when I die. They will probably outlast me, considering what they have been put through. And I believe they'll sound just as good as they did when I first got it.

Unbeatable !!

I'm on my second set and am still amazed at the sound quality of these headphones. My original set;which are at least 10 years old,had lost the vinyl covering on the ear pads. They still sounded great but decided to keep them as a "knock-around" pair. The MDR-V6 were rated #1 years ago by Consumer Reports and I still think they are the best. They don't artificially boost the bass or treble, but can deliver what ever you feed in to them. Most other headphones are so heavy on the bass that my ears get "fatigued" very quickly. The best way that I can describe the sound;is it's as if you've removed cotton balls from your ears, and the presence of the music is just there.I hope Sony doesn't discontinue this great product.

Excellent reference quality hp's

I originally bought these, since I'm a Sony fan, and I was disappointed. The SQ was flat, and they seriously lacked bass of any kind. I didn't realize that these were reference headphones, and that they don't exaggerate any of the sound frequencies as other headphones do. I decided to burn them in a bit, listening to them while doing so, and what a surprise it was. Now, the sound staging is amazing, I can hear little hidden areas of the tracks that were never noticed before, and I've discovered that music doesn't always need to be booming to sound great. All in all, a wonderful set of HP's. I will recommend getting another set of ear pads though, as the current ones tend to make my ears sweat profusely. If you can manage to locate a set of Beyerdynamic Velour Padded Earcushions for DT250 hp's, grab them. They really add to the excellence of the MDR-V6 HP's.
