What sets the 4x4" Black Frost # 1/2, Skin Texture Softening Professional Glass Filter apart is its unique ability to subtly soften skin textures while maintaining black levels and toning down contrast. This filter is akin to the Black SupaFrost and Black Promist, offering a fine "black" mist effect that flares highlights for a professional finish.
Crafted with precision, this Schneider filter is diamond-cut from crystal-clear, water-white optical glass. It's then meticulously ground and polished to achieve a precise flatness and plane-parallelism, ensuring an exact parallel relationship between the front and back filter surfaces. This precision is verified by a laser interferometer for absolute perfection.
Consistency is key with Schneider filters. Each one is checked with a densitometer for consistent density and tested with a spectrophotometer for proper light transmission. This ultra-high consistency allows cinematographers to swap like filters mid-shoot without any discernible variation in color or effect. The unprecedented purity, color saturation, and repeatability of Schneider filters virtually eliminate the need for lab color timing correction.
Designed to withstand the most rigorous demands on set or location, Schneider filters feature a specially formulated hard anti-reflective (AR) coating. This proprietary coating resists flaking, peeling, and scratching while reducing light loss and flare to less than 1% per surface. This is a significant improvement over untreated glass, which has a light loss of 4% per surface.
Schneider screw-on filters are equipped with virtually jam-proof brass precision mounting rings. Unmounted Schneider laminated filters are protected against delamination and edge-chipping by Schneider's unique Edge Seal, which also reduces edge reflection and edge flare.
Contrary to the common perception that filters should not be used in front of long length lenses, Schneider filters have no such limitations. They are diamond-cut from high-quality optical glass, then ground and polished to precise lens-making standards. This results in unsurpassed clarity, light transmission, and color saturation with absolutely no visible compromise of image quality. Even when stacked, Schneider filters are the clear choice for use with any lens.
