While Coral Filters are often seen as dual-purpose tools for color-correction and color-effects, the 4x4" Coral # 1/8, Warm Color Balancing Professional Glass Filter by Schneider stands out for its exceptional performance in warming cool lighting situations. Perfect for overcast days and open shade scenes, this filter allows photographers and cinematographers to maintain a consistent color balance throughout a day of shooting or to create atmospheric sunset or dawn effects during daylight hours.
The Schneider Coral filter's versatility extends to under-correcting a scene to produce an intensely blue look for added drama, or acting as a warming filter to create other striking effects. Crafted from crystal-clear, water-white optical glass, each Schneider filter is diamond cut, then ground and polished to achieve precise flatness and plane-parallelism. This meticulous process ensures an exact parallel relationship between the front and back filter surfaces.
To guarantee perfection, each Schneider filter is verified by a laser interferometer, checked with a densitometer for consistent density, and tested with a spectrophotometer for optimal light transmission. This rigorous quality control results in an ultra-high consistency that enables cinematographers to interchange filters mid-shoot without any noticeable variation in color or effect.
The unparalleled purity, color saturation, and repeatability of Schneider filters virtually eliminate the need for lab color timing correction. These filters are designed to withstand the most demanding conditions on set or location. Many are equipped with Schneider's specially formulated hard anti-reflective (AR) coating to resist flaking, peeling, and scratching. This proprietary coating also reduces light loss and flare to less than 1% per surface, a significant improvement over untreated glass that has a light loss of 4% per surface.
Schneider's screw-on filters feature virtually jam-proof brass precision mounting rings, while unmounted Schneider laminated filters are safeguarded against delamination and edge-chipping by Schneider's unique Edge Seal. This innovative feature also minimizes edge reflection and edge flare.
Contrary to the common perception that filters should not be used in front of long length lenses due to the critically short depth of field, Schneider filters, thanks to their superior quality control, high-quality glass, and advanced glass grinding and polishing techniques, can be used confidently with even the longest lens without any degradation of the image.
