This system was relatively easy to setup. Having some technical background helps. Read all directions when installing and take your time. I connected my system to my smart TV and named the input Security. Also, do not fasten any cameras permanently until you can get a clear video signal. Online chat tech support was very helpful when contacted with issues of setting up my PC as a secondary monitor. The application download I used was wrong. When I sent them [via chat] my system info it then worked smoothly. A word of caution: keep the NVR away from your router & any other radio transmitting devices. It will create a "video loss" signal. Brick walls will also affect signal loss.

Love the big hard drive inside, easy to use system, has everything you need, motion detection, email alerts etc.. best part is you can download the SwannView app and look at the cameras on your smartphone at any time... it's been great checking up on our pet, even the weather when we are away! You can also view past footage on the app anywhere in the world. I love that this is all WiFi meaning I can use in my rental without permanently running cables or screwing in the ceiling!

I recently purchased a Swann NVW-485 system (in fact I bought 2 packs on a black Friday deal to get 4 cameras). Due to the Wifi range I needed, rather than use the recorders built-in wifi, I found that Station mode was the way to go. With this, I was able to connect 2 cameras directly via my home wifi and an additional 2 cameras using a wifi extender. Just needed to configure each pair separately before powering up the whole lot together. Installation was easy enough, just needing a bit of forethought and some other bits & pieces (junction boxes, split tubing, etc..) to achieve a neat installation. Picture quality is great, even at night time though I wish the infrared LED's provided a more spread beam rather than spot. With the whole system sitting on my home network, I was hopeful I could access the recorder (and recordings) via my PC but no luck with this so far. Maybe I haven't tried hard enough.

The NVR was simple to setup however the cameras took a bit of tweaking to get a consistent WiFi connection. Great image quality both in daylight and in IR (Night) mode.

Wi-Fi range very disappointing and Station mode does not work. Also, it is a shame that I need two different programs to view my wired and wireless cameras (SwannView Link and SwannView Plus Client.

very pleased with the results sound and pictures good, viewing via app very good.Need to tweak motion sensors as at night bats are setting the recording off possible after insects around the infaray lights. Doing the job perfectly.

Swann build a good Security system, the hardwear should last years, BUT!! the WiFi system lets it down, Swann use the 2.4Ghz range, which is also used by your computer, ipod, right down to roller doors, and the list is growing every day.. Also the number of people using these items is growing. Meaning more and more a fighting for there shear of the 2.4ghz range...

Really happy with this system. Picture quality is good and set-up was relatively easy. Installing the power cables to the cameras was a bit tricky - but that's down to the limited space in my loft!

quality is quite good but not without its problems . as its wifi signal from camera to nvr you would expect cameras to just have one small power cable !!!!WRONG has 3 cables and massive LAN plug so if you want these for outside you have to drill massive 28mm hole on walls to get cables in there is no hiding a hole this big . cameras give false motion detection all the time had them set up perfectly made no difference had to set sensitivity so low that i could dance in front of camera and it would not record a event but soon as it starts raining or a bus drives buy a street light or the wind blows or there is interference on the wifi signal you get false alerts . so in the end you are false d to turn off email push notification because you just get to many so whats the point in having it if it can not be used. i wanted it for the notifications so when away i would be alerted but if the weather was bad you would spend all your time checking until you then ignore then whats the point in having it.

Decided to go with the Swann based on favorable reviews and the large storage capacity of the DVR (1TB, and also, the fact that the cameras are weatherproof, IP66 rating, meaning exposure to rain is fine. Some of their competitors don't use cameras this weather proof....read carefully! Setup was quick and easy, and the phone app works great and is compatible with Android or Apple so no worries there, that was another very important feature for me as I can view what's going on at home no matter where I am, as long as there's WIFI available for my phone to connect to. Great system overall, glitch free operation.

Spent plenty of time looking at options with all brands. The search narrowed to Swann and then a choice from models with similar specs. I have hit the nail on the head with the selection of the NVW-485 system.

The NVW-485 wireless system with wireless cameras was very easy to set up and operating, even by someone in their 70's. No messy video cables to run inside walls and ceiling, a wireless based system is the only way to go. The biggest PLUS is 'Peace of Mind' by being able to go anywhere in the world (where an internet service is available) and monitor the cameras protecting the house, even on a cruise ship.
