After months of watching "best budget cine lens" videos on youtube I'm received to recoup some time & finally make a choice. So far have not regretted it. The stills that come out of it have more character than expected and look great. 28mm focal length on an alpha mirrorless rig is pretty ideal for my work, so no complaints here.

Being modest for storytelling
Over the past few years, cinema cameras have become remarkably smaller, driving the demand for compact, high-performance cine lenses. The Simera-C responds to this need by blending the design legacy of classic rangefinder lenses with DZOFILM's cinema DNA and cutting-edge optical technology. This fusion achieves a perfect balance between the precision of still photography and the cinematic quality of motion picture imagery within an incredibly compact form.
Simera-C delivers beautifully smooth bokeh and natural edge fall-off, offering exceptional dimensionality for storytelling. It captures a raw and naturalistic aesthetic with clean chromatic aberration control and human-eye-like field curvature even at wide open. The flare is subtly managed to capture highlights without overwhelming the image, keeping the storytelling pure and authentic.
The floating element design throughout the Simera-C series enables a closer minimum focusing distance than most rehoused or modified rangefinder lenses. This allows filmmakers to capture greater texture and detail in close-up shots, providing enhanced creative flexibility and depth.
Fast Aperture for Cinematic Depth
The Simera-C series includes 16mm, 21mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm focal lengths, covering everything from expansive ultra-wide perspectives to intimate telephoto framing. While the 16mm breaks new ground at T1.9 to deliver ultra-wide perspectives with near-zero distortion in a feather-light build, the rest of the lineup boasts a constant T1.5 aperture. The entire family responds fluidly to challenging light, offering an exquisite shallow depth of field that adds dramatic narrative weight and elegant subject separation to every frame. Ample light transmission easily supports high-frame-rate shooting and preserves rich tonal textures in dim environments, infusing imagery with raw emotion and poetry.
Exquisite Optics, Crafting a New Vision
Through a meticulously crafted optical structure that masterfully pairs aspherical lenses, low-dispersion elements, and high-refractive-index elements, the Simera-C achieves ultra-high resolution and exceptional chromatic aberration control. Furthermore, it delivers a rigorous optical performance at 16mm with near-zero distortion and zero focus breathing, fully empowering 8K high-resolution creation across the entire lineup. The 16 pieces of aperture blades help to generate smoother, rounder bokeh while minimizing "onion rings" or irregular highlights. The soft, natural bokeh enhances clarity and subject separation, bringing a refined cinematic character to every frame.
High Contrast for Dramatic Depth
The creamy bokeh and moderate high contrast render the layers of light and shadow with intricate delicacy, while the striking juxtaposition of sharp focus and soft defocus beautifully accentuates the subject, lending a powerful sense of three-dimensionality and spatial depth to the frame. Perfectly compatible with high-resolution digital cinema cameras, the 16mm delivers a peak center resolution of up to 85 lp/mm even when facing the rigorous demands of high-megapixel sensors. This exceptional resolving power unlocks broader dynamic range and rich cinematic textures, significantly enhancing creative latitude and flexibility in post-production.
Meticulous Craftsmanship, Vibrant Colors
Simera-C utilizes advanced vacuum coating and multi-layer anti-reflective coatings to minimize reflections and suppress flaring and ghosting, delivering accurate color reproduction even in backlit conditions. The internal anodized matte-black finish keeps reflectivity below 3.5%, significantly reducing internal stray light reflections. This superior anti-glare capability ensures pristine image quality under complex lighting, capturing both highlights and shadows with impressive clarity, contrast, and depth.
Lightweight Durability, Unrestricted Mobility
Crafted from aerospace-grade aluminum alloy, the all-metal body of the Simera-C series balances high strength and lightness. Each lens weighs just 380-490g, while the 16mm measures under 7cm in length for an exceptionally compact form factor. This lightweight and compact design breaks free from the traditional constraints of cinema lenses regarding size and weight, allowing seamless use across handheld, gimbal, or drone setups. The internal dust and splash-resistant design ensures reliable performance even in the most challenging shooting environments.
Streamlined for Effortless Creativity
The compact design reduces reliance on heavy cinema accessories and lightens the load for filmmakers. Multiple focal lengths can be easily packed and carried, making Simera-C particularly suited for travel shoots and documentary work where mobility is key. When paired with auto-focus systems like DJI Focus Pro, operational demands and crew burden are lightened, offering enhanced agility for solo operators and small production teams.
Modular System Integration, Expanding Creative Boundaries
The ultra-compact design of the Simera-C makes it one of the few cinema lens sets compatible with the DJI Ronin 4D. When integrated with the DJI FLEX system, complex setups like low-angle, over-the-shoulder tracking, or tight interior car shots become easy to execute. This compatibility enriches the visual storytelling, enhancing the mobility, operability, and creative freedom on set.
Precision Consistency, Seamless Operation
The entire series features a 0.8 MOD gear pitch for both focus and aperture rings, ensuring compatibility with common follow focus systems and cinema accessories. The consistent gear positioning allows for lens and accessory swaps without the need for recalibration. The 28mm, 35mm, and 50mm lenses have the same length, while the 16mm, 21mm and 75mm lenses are slightly longer.
With similar lengths and weights, they maintain a consistent handling feel during lens swaps, reducing the need for rebalancing on stabilizers or sliders and boosting shooting efficiency. A 210 Degree focus throw offers ample operating space for manual focus, while the ideal dampening ensures smoothness and stability during adjustments. This makes the focusing process much more controllable, allowing for effortless progressive focus pulls or precise shallow depth-of-field control.
Cine-standard Design Broad Compatibility
With a maximum image circle of 43.2mm, Simera-C covers full-frame sensors and is compatible with Super 35 and APS-C formats.
Refined Techniques for Superb Imagery
Each Simera-C lens undergoes rigorous quality control, crafted with micron-level precision using a combined milling process. This ensures exceptional manufacturing accuracy for each element, reducing optical aberrations like chromatic aberration and astigmatism. The entire series maintains consistent image quality, delivering uniform sharpness from center to edge, whether capturing wide-angle or telephoto scenes, meeting the demands of high-end production.
