Awesome. I love the size; it is really well-built, and the depth of field it creates is simply amazing

After about five hundred frames on my Nikon Z7, I am extremely impressed with this lens. I love the perspective and bokeh. With care in framing, shooting flowers or birds, it's easy to isolate the subject from the background. Easy to shoot hand-held, but not as light as some reviews claim. I use mostly spot focus, which is fast and accurate without any correction. The sharpness is simply outstanding, even at 500 mm. I have learned not to shoot too tight on subjects because the 45 mp file allows me to crop quite a bit and still have an amazing image. This lens is not inexpensive, but it's an excellent value. Tamron never disappoints.

This lens has proven to be a solid performer as an all purpose telephoto zoom. The build quality is nice, the VC stabilization works ( however not as good as a native VR lens), and the photo quality is superb. The fact that it is so reasonably priced compared to the Nikon Z lenses is a bonus.

The lens is great on my A7Rii. Sharp, huge reach, reasonable focusing speed. It's heavy, but that's the price you pay for the reach. The accessory kit has been a bit more of a mixed bag. The UV filter, the cleaning kit, and the lens bag all seem good. The CPL is hot garbage. Just destroys image quality. Seeing as these were "free" extras, I can't complain too much. But if you're specifically interested in a CPL for this filter, plan on buying one separately.

This is a sub par lens in every way. Its sad because I wanted to really like it. Also owning a 500 pf it might not be a fair comparison.1st, the image stableization is non existant. the viewfinder experience is very shaky. Unless im shooting at 1/500 of a second at 500mm the images are soft. Thats bad. Shot a series of eagle in flight shots on my z9 and got 1 keeper out of a series of 35 shots. Did a similar test on my 500 pf and got around 90% keeper rate. also, the bird eye auto focus is off, will not stay on the birds eye. dont have this issue with my nikon lens. still, for 1,200.00 these things shouldnt happen. I'm thinking i got a bad copy seeing all the reviews on this page.

Good for what it is. Bought this after the 180-600mm Nikkor so happy with it when I just can't fit the other in my kit.

Lens works greater than expected on my X-T5. I have had some slight auto focus issues attempting to track birds in flight but simply throwing the selector from AF-C to M and back to AF-C fixed the issue. Other than that the lens performs great.

Fast autofocus and a very reasonably priced. This lens is not light weight but not noticeably heavier than the XF 100-400. You get 100mm more reach with this lens along with switches for adjustable stabilization and adjustable minimum focus right on the lens itself. Bypassing the need to use any in camera menus. Tamron has knocked it out of the park again for Fuji. The 18-300mm and the 17-70mm are high quality as well and recommend all three as having a place in my system.

100-400mm has been my "go to" focal length for years and I've used many versions in many mounts. I often find myself using the 400mm most of the time and then cropping the images. Teleconverters are not my preference for a variety of reasons. This 150-500mm seemed like a good option for me since I get a bit longer reach without the complications of a TC. I owned both the Sony 100-400 and 200-600 lenses. This Tamron competes equally with both. One thing to note is that the Tamron stays at f/5.6 out to just shy of 400mm (~390mm). So you're getting the same aperture, exposure, speed and background separation as the Sony 100-400mm at 400mm. Once I realized this fact, the Tamron became a keeper. Compared to the Sony with a TC the Tamron is faster since the Sony 100-400 is knocked down to f/8 from 226 to 560mm (with TC). The linear AF motors in this lens are fast. Really fast. On the a9 II tracking and bursts work as well as with the Sony lenses. Supposedly the burst speed is throttled to ~15 frames per second with third party lenses but in practice I don't notice any difference. I avoid using anything beyond 10fps under normal circumstances. 20 or 30 fps creates an absurd amount of shots to cull and edit. On the a7R IV this lens also performs great. Image quality is sharp across the frame at all focal lengths wide open. No need to stop down. The lens OIS ("VC") works well. I find "Mode 3" gives me the best results at the 400-500mm end. "Mode 2" panning works well helping give a sense of motion when you want it. Overall I highly, highly recommend this lens to anyone who favors the long end of 100-400mm and often finds they want a bit more reach. Yes, it's heavier then the typical 100-400 lens but it's advantages far outweigh that (pun intended) for me.

This lens is great value for the money. It is a very useful range, and while heavy it feels like very quality material. I have only used it on a few outings so far but have been very happy with its performance on my Sony a7iii. The filter kit is back ordered and I still haven?t received it or a good substitution. The lens bag that came with this kit also does not fit the lens, but adorama sent me a replacement. For that reason I?m at 4 stars, but if they send me the filter substitute I requested I?ll update to 5.

Awesome lens for wildlife photography. Lighter and smaller than some of the other comparable focal length lenses. VC really does work wonders.

Awesome lens for still shots! NOT what I would recommend for photographing moving objects like racecars or flying birds. Overall great colors, great sharpness in good lighting and plenty of reach.

Very heavy lens and hard to adjust the zoom. Takes great photos, and a tripod would help. I shoot Backcountry wildlife which makes it too heavy to carry.

Great lens to give me the extra reach and leave room in my bag. I tested the Sony 100-400, Sigma 100-400 and Sigma 150-600 before deciding on this lens. I shoot on an A7iii so this lens keeps up just fine with the Sony 100-400 and Sigma 150-600. I will be using the lens primarily for wildlife and Landscape shots of the PNW mountains. I will be traveling to Scotland with this lens in September 2022.

I love the photos and the size. In fairness, it's my first super telephoto lens. It's not as bright as I'd like but I was happy to make the trade off for the portability. I went on a hike with it and it was heavy - I was definitely glad to have this over something wider (or that goes out to 600mm). Compression is great.

Am definitely enjoying this lens. It is well made though heavier than I had anticipated but the sharpness is worth the weight. Definitely would recommend this lens for the Sony a7RIII.

I have a passion for taking detailed pictures of hummingbirds. I tried the Sony 200-600 mm zoom lens. It was too heavy to hold and still did not focus fast enough for me to get hummers in pristine sharp focus. The is still pretty heavy, but my 75 years old body can handle it (And thank you Adorama for getting one of these beauties to me when they remain so generally not available!) Not all of my photos are keepers of course, but some are truly gorgeous and breath-taking. (I?m not exaggerating. My own breath was taken away!) Crisp corner to corner, wonderful exposure. Caveat - Must have decent light. Low light, even with ISO at 6400 just does not produce good results. Cameras used were Sony a6000 and Sony a7rii.

Mastering the magical world of 500mm ultra-telephoto zoom lenses
An astonishingly compact ultra-telephoto zoom lens with image stabilization specifically designed for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras.
The 150-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD (Model A057) zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras upends conventional wisdom for ultra-telephoto zoom lenses, with a very compact design and high image quality. The 150-500mm F5-6.7 achieves a 500mm focal length while retaining a compact size, with a length of just 209.6mm (8.3 in) and a maximum diameter of 93mm, enabling comfortable handheld shooting. The design places major emphasis on image quality. The optical construction features 25 elements in 16 groups and utilizes special lens elements and hybrid aspherical lens elements to control various potential aberrations such as chromatic aberrations. The 150-500mm F5-6.7 zoom is also equipped with a high-speed, high-precision linear motor focus mechanism VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) and VC (Vibration Compensation), ensuring that no photogenic moment is ever missed. Additionally, the lens has a MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.6m (23.6 in) at the 150mm end and remarkable overall usability. The Arca-Swiss compatible tripod mount has strap attachment holes and there are various features to support outdoor shooting, including Moisture-Resistant Construction and Fluorine Coating. The 150-500mm F5-6.7 is a highly versatile lens that lets you capture a wide array of subjects ranging from landscapes and birds to sports and wildlife photography. You will be amazed when you experience the powerful and unique world of ultra-telephoto lenses for yourself.
Enjoy comfortable handheld shooting with a compact full-featured, full-frame 500mm lens
Considering its pairing with mirrorless cameras, TAMRON pursued a compact size that allows handheld shooting while developing the 150-500mm F5-6.7. With a length of 209.6mm (8.3 in) and maximum diameter of 93mm, the 150-500mm F5-6.7 is astonishingly compact for a 500mm-class ultra-telephoto zoom lens built for use on full-frame mirrorless cameras. Even when extended to the 500mm telephoto end, the lens has a suppressed length of around 283mm (11.1 in). Another distinctive feature is that the arc of rotation of the zoom ring is small-only 75 Degree -which enables swift adjustment to the desired focal length with minimal movement.
Uncompromising high image quality throughout the entire zoom range
In addition to covering a broad range of focal lengths, the 150-500mm F5-6.7 zoom has high resolving power with excellent image-rendering performance across the entire zoom range. The optical construction features 25 elements in 16 groups. The effective placement of special lens elements-including XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion), LD (Low Dispersion) and hybrid aspherical lens elements-enables the 150-500mm F5-6.7 to produce clear images while controlling chromatic aberrations. BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating is used to suppress ghosting and flare, which commonly occur under backlit conditions. These features allow the lens to produce finely detailed images of a wide variety of subjects including wild animals, birds, nature and sports, while producing soft and beautiful bokeh effects.
High-speed, high-precision AF means you'll never miss a photo opportunity
The 150-500mm F5-6.7 zoom's AF drive system is equipped with the VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism. VXD delivers extreme high-speed and high-precision movement and ensures exceptionally responsive performance. Even when shooting at the ultra-telephoto end with a focal length of 500mm, the 150-500mm F5-6.7 enables comfortable, stress-free focusing at all shooting distances from near to far. Focus tracking performance is also very high, facilitating shooting of fast-moving subjects, such as when photographing wild birds, sports, vehicles and wildlife in general. The linear motor also suppresses drive noise and vibrations during focusing, making it ideal for shooting both still photos and video in environments that demand quietness.
VC image stabilization facilitates shooting handheld at the 500mm ultra-telephoto position
When shooting in the ultra-telephoto range, even the smallest vibrations can lead to loss of image clarity. The 150-500mm F5-6.7 is equipped with VC (Vibration Compensation) functionality to support sharp images despite unavoidable camera shake. VC delivers powerful support for handheld shooting of scenes with low light levels, such as evening scenes and indoor shots, without the use of a tripod. The lens also features a VC mode selection switch with three modes including a dedicated panning mode (Mode 1: Standard, Mode 2: Exclusively for Panning, and Mode 3: Framing priority), thereby enabling selection of the ideal VC mode to match shooting conditions and preferences.
MOD of 0.6m (23.6 in) when shooting at the 150mm setting
The 150-500mm F5-6.7 zoom lets users freely enjoy telephoto macro shooting of subjects at closeup distances. The lens has an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.6m (23.6 in) at the 150mm wide-angle end, and 1.8m (70.9 in) at the 500mm telephoto end. More remarkably, the maximum magnification ratio at the 150mm end is 1:3.1, offering excellent close-up shooting capabilities for an ultra-telephoto zoom lens. The versatile performance of the 150-500mm F5-6.7 enables shooting of a diverse range of scenes from plants and insects to closeup tabletop photos. It also allows users to shoot very dramatic images because it gives the illusion that the distance between objects is less than in real life. Secondarily, it's also possible to get interesting head-and-shoulder portraits because of this compression effect.
An ultra-telephoto zoom lens with extreme usability for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless
In the development and design of the 150-500mm F5-6.7 zoom, TAMRON emphasized usability so that users can fully immerse themselves in the world of ultra-telephoto zoom lenses without minor annoyances.
Lens hood designed with rubberized front
The end of the included lens hood is protected with flexible, shock-absorbing front rim to prevent cracks and damage.
Fast, smooth zooming operation with minimal movement
The arc of rotation of the zoom ring is only 75° to enable swift adjustment to the desired focal length with minimal movement.
FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism
The FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism quickly locks or unlocks the zoom at any position simply by sliding the zoom ring. Photographers can shoot at any angle without the lens extending unintentionally.
New switch design for improved operability
Modifications to the switch designs provide smoother, more comfortable operation overall and more intuitive control.
Arca-Swiss compatible tripod mount with strap attachment holes included
Strap attachment holes are conveniently located in the Arca-Swiss compatible tripod mount, and the overall balance with the strap attached, with regard to center of gravity, is excellent.
Circular aperture to produce a smooth-edged bokeh
A 7-blade diaphragm is configured to retain a smooth, circular-shaped aperture opening even when stopped down by two stops from the wide-open aperture. This produces a smooth-edged bokeh in background highlights.
BBAR-G2 Coating delivers stunning clarity and contrast
TAMRON has long been an innovator of coating technologies that prevent ghosting and flare. Second-generation BBAR-G2 Coating is a groundbreaking advancement that provides vastly improved performance compared to the original BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating. The coating corrects for ghosting and flare to an unprecedented extent and renders fine subject detail with true clarity and stunning contrast even under backlit conditions.
Moisture-Resistant Construction protects your lens
For greater protection when shooting outdoors, leak-resistant seals throughout the lens barrel help protect your equipment.
Fluorine Coating for protection and safe cleaning
The front surface of the lens element is coated with a protective fluorine compound that is water- and oil-repellant. The lens surface is easier to wipe clean and is less vulnerable to the damaging effects of dirt, dust, moisture, and fingerprints.
