Questions & Answers

John D : Is this lens compatible with a Nikon Z6 II?TODD & SUE P : Hi John all I can tell you is that I tried it using the older convertor from nikon and it didn't work. Couldn't tell if it will using the newer one. I have gone FujiFilm since!
RICHARD P : Could this lens be used for astrophotography?
MARK H : Since this is a variable aperture lens, at what focal lengths does the aperture change? Specifically how far can you zoom and keep the aperture at 5.6?DEBORAH O : About 325-330mmMark M : Hi Mark. Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. At 150mm it's f5. At 600mm it's f6.3. But in between it fluctuates sometimes going to f7 or so, but usually 5.3 or 5.6 or 6. Apparently has to do with the variable relationship between the inner lens elements. It's a very good, sharp lens, though. Love mine...Dana H : Between 300-325mm at f5.6

Used product like new and love it

Focus on the Tamron is really good above 250mm. not so much from 150-200. That being said I have taken the best shots of Alligators and Ospreys as it can get you real close fast. All in all the lens functions as Id hoped. It is a bit of a beast as far as weight though so be prepared.

Solid lens, especially for the price point

This lens seems to be well built and works flawlessly with my Canon T7i. Autofocus is quick and spot on, pictures are crisp. I use it primarily for nature shots, birds and other wildlife. I do use a tripod most of the time as the combination of camera and lens is a bit heavy. I have taken offhand shots with no blurring or other problems.

I'm very happy with this product and I think it's a great lens for the price. Several of my photography club friends recommended this lens to me.

My new Tamron 150-600 mm G2 lens is tack sharp and so easy to use. It works so well in continuous mode. The wings on the humming birds that I photograph are so clear. I had a Sigma 150-500, but was never satisfied with the results. Tamron beats it by a mile!

Very good lens, best used with tripod if in lower light.

The lens is everything I expected; solid, dependable, not too heavy, focuses pretty quickly. The only reason I gave a "4" is that it needs a brighter/sunnier day. The wider front lens helps but you still need a larger aperture and higher ISO to let the best light in. You also need a fast shutter speed, if you are not using a tripod, since the size of the lens tends to make it a bit hard to hold steady. On the whole it is a very good lens but best used on a tripod if the light isn't right.

Fantastic lens with beautiful optics!

Fantastic lens with beautiful optics. Slight issue using it with my new mirrorless Canon R5, but I found work-arounds in the settings and it now functions seamlessly and I have been thrilled with my images.

Great new Tamron telefoto lens

The weather has not cooperated so I've only been able to use it once, but I'm impressed with the results. I used it to take close-ups of songbirds visiting my feeders and I'm very happy with the results. The photos were crisp, showing great detail on the feathers and the colors were true-to-life. It appears to be an excellent value for the price. This is a replacement lens for a Tamron 150-500 mm zoom lens I bought over a decade ago. That was a great lens but I've worn it out. I hope I get as many years of excellent service out of this new lens.

Happy with the Tamron 150 - 600mm G2

I was hesitant at first to go with this lens but finally bit the bullet and ordered. It arrived a few days later. My first impression was that is was well made and light for it's size and focal length 150 - 600 mm. I took it out the next day to photograph some Burrowing Owls. These are very small owls about the size of a hand. They are a protected bird, so getting to close to them and their nesting area is not allowed by law. That's where to 600mm end of the focal length comes into play. I decided to go hand held to see how everything worked out. I was quite happy with the results. The images were crisp and clear. The focus was fast and accurate. I did raise my ISO higher than I normally shoot to enable me to use faster shutter speeds. There are not many affordable options (for me at least) in the 600mm range. I am very happy with the purchase. One note, I am using this with a DSLR and not mirrorless.

Nice bokeh, great improvement over G1. Lens is sturdier and reacts more quickly. Loved the G1, and going to REALLY love the G2. Paired with a Canon 5Ds

Great Lens For Wild Life

So far it's been a great lens. Has some interesting setting for short or long focal length - a handy feature. The upside is it really brings in the wildlife, but be prepared if you want to hike and take hand held images, it's heavy, but I've gotten used to it.

About Tamron SP 150-600/5-6.3 Di VC G2

PRO REVIEW by Alex Cearns, Photographer and Creative Director

"When I need more zoom, I reach for "The Beast" of lenses: the Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 telephoto lens. It produces vibrant color saturation, is fast focusing, and can be hand-held for short periods with minimal camera shake. It performs well in all lighting conditions, and the clarity of the telephoto end (600mm zoom) has to be seen to be believed. "

The Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 (Model A022), also referred to as Model A022, is a versatile super telephoto lens that comes with a Nikon F-mount, making it the perfect choice for your APS-C or full-frame Nikon digital SLR. An improved version of its predecessor, the Tamron 150-60mm (Model A011), the Model A022 has faster and more responsive AF, enhanced vibration compensation (VC), and a handful of other upgrades while meeting Tamron’s high standards in performance and design.

Despite having a wide variety of focal lengths, the second-generation Tamron 150-600mm super telephoto’s long-reaching zoom range works seamlessly with its enhanced optical design, featuring three low dispersion (LD) glass elements with eBAND (Extended Bandwidth Angular Dependency) and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coatings that improve overall image clarity. This is achieved by avoiding common camera and image disruptions (such as camera shake, ghosting, and flare), resulting in high-definition, high-contrast images and steady handheld shooting even without a tripod.

Tamron Lens

The Tamron 150-600mm f/5-6.3 super telephoto lens features an impressive semi-wide aperture of f/5-6.3 for creating beautiful background blur behind the subject. It has a built-in Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD) ring-type motor to make it easier for you to maintain a sharp focus on moving subjects. It’s perfect for both indoor and outdoor use, thanks to its moisture-resistant and durable built, leak-proof seals, and protective coating on lens surfaces.

Improved Overall Design

This Tamron super telephoto lens features adopted designs from four different fixed focal lenses from Tamron’s exclusive SP (Superior Performance) line, enabling it to offer zoomed-in perspectives of up to 400%.

The Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 features three low-dispersion (LD) glass elements making up the lens’ enhanced optical design that works seamlessly with its long-reaching zoom range. The LD glass elements improve image clarity and prevent image quality disruptions, such as camera shake and color fringing.

The added eBAND (Extended Bandwidth Angular Dependency) and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coatings on the glass elements reduce ghosting and flare often caused by light reflections from cameras’ image sensors when shooting with backlit subjects or under strong lighting conditions.

Tamron eBAND and BBAR coatings

The added eBAND (Extended Bandwidth Angular Dependency) and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coatings on the glass elements reduce ghosting and flare often caused by light reflections from cameras’ image sensors when shooting with backlit subjects or under strong lighting conditions.

Full-Time Manual Focus

With the Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3, you can override your camera’s full AF mode to instantly make last-minute adjustments, such as when you want to change your subject on focus, without the need to switch between focus modes.

Wide f/5-6.3 Aperture

The wide aperture of f/5-6.3 between the minimum 150mm focal range and the maximum 600mm focal range is perfect for macro photography and achieving dramatic bokeh (background or out-of-focus blurring) from great distances.

Tamron Lens

Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD) Ring-Type Motor

The built-in Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD) ring-type motor significantly improves AF speed and keeps the motor silent while focusing continuously on fast-moving subjects. It also makes the lens compatible with previous-generation cameras without built-in AF motors.

Vibration Compensation (VC)

The improved Vibration Compensation (VC) system reduces camera shake of up to 4.5 stops in shutter compensation and keeps your scene sharp and steady. This special feature is established by CIPA (Camera Imaging Products Association) to ensure high levels of image stabilization performance. It has three VC modes optimized for shooting at slower shutter speeds in low-light situations, thus giving you more freedom when doing handheld shooting.

  • VC MODE 1 – standard image stabilization mode with viewfinder preview
  • VC MODE 2 – specifically developed for panning shots
  • VC MODE 3 – adds up to 4.5 stops in image stabilization and restricts preview on the viewfinder

Fluorine-Coated Glass Surface

The special fluorine compound coating on the front lens surface keeps dirt, dust, moisture, and fingerprint smudges from damaging the glass. At the same time, the protective repellent coating makes it easier to wipe dirt off the surface without having to use a cleansing solution.

FLEX ZOOM LOCK

The FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism allows you to quickly lock or unlock the zoom at any focal length by simply sliding the zoom ring. This keeps the lens from sliding and extending unintentionally while shooting from different angles. The customary zoom lock also keeps the lens from extending in your camera bag during bumpy rides.

Focus Limiter Switch

The Tamron SP lens comes with a special focus limiter switch that makes it easier to achieve more accurate manual focus. It limits the focus ring’s movement and keeps it locked near the desired range to prevent out-of-focus subjects and scenery in photos.

Exclusive Teleconverters

The package usually comes with two exclusive teleconverters that perfectly match the lens’ optics to offer up to 1.4x to 2.0x in magnification and extend the maximum room range to 1,200mm away – twice the original maximum zoom range of 600mm.

Arca-Swiss-type Compatible Tripod Mount

The lens includes an Arca-Swiss-type compatible tripod mount made of lightweight magnesium, so the lens is easier to hold and carry despite its length. It’s also specifically enhanced with a new textured grip, quick release plate, and Arca-Swiss-style tripod interface to easily shoot with a wide variety of tripods and monopods.

TAMRON TAP-in Console Compatible

The lens is for a quick and easy update of the lens firmware and customization of features (such as AF and VC adjustments) via the optional Tap-in Console’s USB connection.
