My First Guitar - Love It

I wanted to learn to play acoustic for my church. I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money but I also didn't want to cheap out and need to upgrade in a year or two. This guitar was the perfect option. The sound quality is excellent and the play-ability is very smooth. This is a guitar that encourages me to want to play. I held off on writing a review for 6 months so I would have some actual experience with this instrument. I am still very happy with my purchase.

Easy to play for beginners with the sound of a professional guitar

Even beginners can sound like pros with this guitar! Being a hobbyist for 22 years I have only played guitar on and off throughout the years. Once I picked up this guitar I didn't want to put it down! It's warm sound is crisp and bright with the perfect balance of highs and lows, highlighting the mids. The on-board tuner is super convenient and can be used without an electric preamp. Easy to play and lightweight sure to bring out your inner musician! A great buy for the price for this beautiful auditorium body guitar!

Great deal!

Purchased this for my son's 15th birthday last week during a 1/2 off sale! Extremely good deal for a nice Fender with built in tuner, and plug in. It also comes with a nice hard case.

Beautiful sounding guitar

I would give this guitar 5 stars based on sound and material quality. The quality of the build and finish is also spectacular. The only reason that reduced this to 4 stars is that the action was quite high when I received the guitar. The neck is gorgeous and the truss rod is effective, but the saddle is too high. This will require that I either rework or replace the bridge - no big deal, really. The sound is amazing - full, balanced, and rich with overtones.

Quality Instrument

Great sounding instrument at a great price! Beautiful design with a bright sound and good projection. Tuners were a bit of a concern but seems to holdi tuning well after the strings were broken in. Fishman electronics are better than expected. Fender hard shell case is a good add on and is of reasonable quality. A great overall purchase! Adorama was very easy to work with.

Better than expected

Looks great and plays even better. The neck was perfectly straight and action was a tiny bit high straight out of the case. Adjustment took 5 minutes and now plays great up and down the fretboard. No doubt this will sound even better a few years down the line. Took the guitar with me to the guitar center acoustic room and played comparing to other acoustics in the 1k range. It sounded equally good. The preamp is just a bonus and puts out a good clean signal. On top of that the price for this guitar cant be beat. I would not hesitate to buy this again if I needed to. You have impressed me Fender.

Fare guitar at $ with nice hard case

I totally agree with the 1-star review. I've played guitar for 15 years, this one sounds just like a solid top guitar and nothing better than YAMAHA FG-730s. However, this guitar comes with a nice hard case and tuner, which can save you around $150 -$ 200 so I gave this 2 stars and if you expect more than these, you should move on.

Nicely finished, great tone, light-weight and resonant.

This guitar feels much more alive than my solid top only guitar that has laminated back and sides. It has a nice even range across all the strings and projects well. The frets are finished nicely with rounded edges and the on board pickup works great through an amp, sounds natural. I'm not sure what the person was reviewing who gave a rating of one star. There's just no way this guitar could rate one star unless it fell off the back of a truck going 80 miles an hour.

This gift really hit the mark!

I bought this as a gift and he couldn't have been happier with the appearance and style of the guitar. He is a casual home player, but beyond the level of a hobbyist. It is still pretty new so it is breaking in but it has really sparked new life into his playing and enthusiasm. For the quality and the sale price point, it was a perfect purchase.

Extremely Poor Quality Guitar

This guitar might use its all solid woods construction to lure you into thinking it’s a quality instrument. These are sold so cheap for a reason, and honestly, I found it much worse than the cheap price reflected. Quite possibly the worst acoustic guitar I’ve ever touched and that includes toys. Sent it directly back for refund, and Adorama gave me no problem doing so. I’ve been playing guitar for 25 years, and the saying “you get what you pay for”, has never failed.

Great solid wood guitar and hard shell case

Somehow I came across this deal for an all solid wood guitar, from a well known company, with a hard shell case, for under $ I tried to ignore it, because I had just placed an order for another all-solid parlor size guitar from another vendor, at more than twice the cost. But I'm weak, and ended up ordering this one too. Adorama sent it out quickly, and I'm already playing it. Still waiting on the parlor guitar... Anyway, I'm impressed with this guitar. It's very pleasing to look at, I can't find any fault with the fit and finish. The nut is a little more narrow than I like, but that seems to be the standard for most guitars of this type. The sound is a little to bright for me (or maybe jangly, not sure of the right term), but that could just be the new strings, or maybe the type of strings that come with it. The action is also just a little too high for me, but not so high to be a problem, and nothing a little sanding down of the saddle won't fix. The built in tuner works as expected. I haven't plugged it in to my amp, so I can't say anything more about the electronics. Overall, I really like this guitar, at $ it's great bargain, and I like dealing with Adorama.

Outstanding Value for the money

The craftsmanship of this instrument is very good and even the small details are very nicely done. The finish is beautiful on all surfaces and the abalone inlay touch also very nice. The intonation is close to perfect, did not find issues at any fret position. The playability of the guitar in my opinion is excellent out of the box, however there is room for further adjustment in case you prefer very low action. The neck shape is quite comfortable. As for the sound, it is well balanced, medium loud, but loud enough to play and sing without any amplification. Obviously the volume, responsiveness, tone can not be compared to a solid rosewood construction, but in this price range this is one of the best guitar I've tried so far. The built in digital tuner is accurate and very useful. The pickup and pre-amp provides a fairly strong and very clean signal. By connecting the guitar to a good acoustic amp or multi-effect system, you will sound like a million bucks. The hard shell case is very good as well. The shipping was a bit on the slower side, but it was free, so it's OK. Way to go Adorama, bring more deals like this.

Beautifully built, sounds good

I bought this to replace a 9-year-old Yamaha dreadnought, and at first I was a little disappointed with it. Did my Yamaha sound better? But I had to take several things into consideration. First of all, my Yamaha has had 9 years to mellow and age -- and become pretty sweet-sounding. I think is was unfair of me to think a brand-new guitar was going to sound as good right out of the box. Especially after having sat in the back of a cold UPS truck for several hours! Also, after tuning the Fender, the strings felt very, very tight (yes, I did stretch them out first); in fact, the tips of my fingers were sore after playing for only a half hour. The good news, is that after only two days of playing, my new Fender is starting to sound better. It's now acclimated to the temperature in my house, and the strings are stretching more ... I've had to re-tune the guitar several times. Finally, I'm going to bring my new guitar over to my former guitar teacher's house tomorrow, and he'll never guess how little I paid for it -- the quality is that good. He has several Taylors, but I know he'll be impressed with my Fender.

Hard to beat for the price

Got this as new old stock at a pretty deep discount from Adorama around Christmas, 2018. For the price I paid, it's an amazing guitar. For full price it would have some competition. Fender clearly borrowed from Taylor in some of the design, the shape is the largest Taylor body shape (grand auditorium) and probably has about the same total volume as the classic dreadnought shape but with a thinner waste and fatter bottom. As like a 5'8"/9" guy I've always found dreadnoughts a little uncomfortable to play seated after a while because of the angle at my shoulder, but even the difference is subtle I don't have the problem with this shape and it still has comparable complexity to a dreadnought (albeit with maybe a little less of the booming bass). The neck on this guitar is, for better and worse, very reminiscent of the neck on an electric guitar. It's not wide and it's not fat and has a thick gloss finish on it. If you have large fingers it might feel a little crowded--if you can fingerpick on a slim taper D shape electric you should be fine. Out of the box, the action was a high for my taste. I actually replaced the saddle with a TUSQ mostly because I wanted to keep the original one mostly stock and ground it down to where the action is a little under 2mm at the 12th fret on the low E and it is very comfortable with no buzz or anything. The electronics are fine if not super feature rich, the preamp is pretty loud compared to some of my other acoustic/electrics, tuner works. This guitar shines acoustically though, plugged in it's just okay IMO and there's no internal mic so no mic blend output option. The tuners are the typical open-back variety that I'm not a big fan of but they do the job and tuning seem stable. I suspect the nut might be slotted for 012 gauge strings because I've got 013s on it now and I think it's binding a little on the middle strings. Aesthetically it looks very nice, no flaws anywhere that I've seen, the ovangkol fingerboard is smooth and dark, the single binding on the full body and neck looks snazzy. Sound-wise it's my best sounding 6-string acoustic and competes with my 12-string. There is a lot going on in terms of the frequencies and it feels very full and even, the bass is there and the treble is there but neither one is overpowering. The cutaway is a nice touch. All in all, for what I paid it's an amazing guitar. At list price it I'm not sure I would have considered it because the Fender name isn't an especially well-respected acoustic guitar brand, but I think in terms of sheet quality it would be competitive with other brands in that mid-tier space. That said, I'm sure resale would be much worse than a comparable Taylor or Martin or something.
