I take thousands of pictures every year with my Nikon P5100 Coolpix. I am still using the original Nikon brand EN-EL5 battery that came with it 21 YEARS AGO! This battery has outlasted 5 (maybe more) batteries of other brands. I usually take 500 photos (business use) on any day, so all the batteries have been subject to the same usage criteria. Nikon quality come through again!

Like many other low rated reviews, both of my EN-EL5 batteries have now experienced bulging in center of battery, making it very difficult to remove from camera. I worry if the battery is even safe to recharge and use. I have searched high and low for Nikon brand replacement battery, with no luck. I hate to think I will need to buy a new camera, because of bad batteries.

Had the same issue as another reviewer. I used my camera for 2 vacations last year then stored it with a fully charged battery in my closet for a few months. Pulled it out for the next trip only to find the battery, not only dead, but stuck in the camera. Had to use needle nose pliers to remove it and found that it had swollen in the center. I contacted Nikon and was glad to hear that if i dropped by their office, they would exchange the battery for a new one.

The Nikon Brand batteries appear to be a lot better than the 'no-name' brand. My last set of 'no-name' swelled up within 6 months and the Nikon batteries have not suffered from any swelling over many years.

When ordering a cable to replace one I stepped on, I saw the listings for the Nikon battery charger and the Nikon EN-EL5 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery. It was an impulse purchase, but one I do not regret in the least. Having an extra battery makes taking photos for eBay an activity I can do anytime I feel like it without having to wait for a lone battery to recharge periodically.

I am still using the original Battery that came with my Coolpix P90 that I bought 6/28/09 and it still holds a charge as well as when I first bought the Camera. I don't use the Camera that much, but I do occasionally remove the Battery and bring it up to full charge. I have read the other posts about the Battery swelling in the middle, but knock on wood so far no problems with this one.

I had no idea why my battery was stuck in my camera. I thought I'd never be able to use it again since I couldn't find anyone locally to help me. So I called Nikon's 800 number and they told me that batteries can swell. They talked me through pulling it out using a pair of tweezers. They gave me some websites to find a new battery. I'd had success using Adorama for another issue so I went straight to them because they had exactly what I needed. The price was right and they promptly sent my battery. Voila, my beloved camera is back in business. Thank you, Adorama!

My camera went dead this week and it occurred to me that the battery needed changing. However, when I tried to remove the battery, I discovered that it would not come out. With great difficulty, I was finally able to get it out and discovered the reason for the difficulty--it had expanded in the middle making it too tight to be removed. What I would like to know is if there is a possibility that it damaged by camera. Will Nikon replace the battery or do I have to buy a replacement? If I have to buy one, what do I get?

In P510, purchased Nov. 2012, both batteries (original with camera, spare purchased same time) have expanded, bulging in the middle. Very difficult to remove them from camera. Charger indicates they still recharge, but will see how long charge lasts. Not a lot of photos taken with either battery. Battery should (1) last longer with minimal photos taken and (2) definitely not expand, indicating an internal failure.

This is one of the worst batteries I've ever owned. It really doesn't last long at all. Had I known this beforehand, I would not have bought the camera. I should have stuck with Canon!

I buy these batteries two at a time to always have a fresh one handy. I use them in my Nikon P5000 and find they have a long life and do a good job for me. The set I replaced had been in moderate use for about 5 years. They never died entirely, just needed to be charged more often. A good product!

Bateria muito ruim. Fiz dois videos de +- 20 min cada, a câmera apagou enquanto ainda gravava o segundo... Como já foi dito por outros usuários, o visor mostra carga completa, depois apaga. Estou apaixonado pela minha P520, fotos e videos maravilhosos, as opções no menu poderiam ser mais intuitivas, mais não é nada q atrapalhe. A Nikon deveria ter mais atenção com as baterias, afinal, sem elas não há clique!

Não dura uma manhã de fotos se o GPS estiver ligado, e na coolpix não avisa com antecedência que está acabando a carga, simplesmentes sinaliza que está no final e já desliga dois ou três cliques depois.

This is the original battery that came with my P500. Since the P500 does not get many photos before needing a fresh battery I purchased 3 non-Nikon brand spare batteries when the camera was new. Here we are two years later and the non-Nikon batteries are doing just fine; the Nikon EN-EL5 swelled up inside the camera so bad I had to stop sight seeing to find a hardware store to borrow a small screwdriver and needle nose pliers to get it out. Up until that point it performed just fine, but this kind of failure could have killed my camera for the entire trip.

I have this battery in my Coolpix P500 , I have taken over 200 Shots in daylight with the battery, Even in night with the flasher, i have taken over 100 Photos. I need an extra battery to keep with me.

I use this battery in my Nikon P500. It is good if the battery last the day of shooting. The recharge of this battery take awhile. Nikon chose this battery for size and lightness, but the P500 could really stand a more powerful battery.
