A great lens but it would be nice to know where max aperture focus is set for, or Zeiss should at least make them all consistent.

This is a lens that you either or love or hate. I personally love it. I use it on a leica m3 and just deal with the focus shift (which isn't hard to to). The rendering is fantastic event at f1.4

Wow. My A7R II doesn't want to part with it. The images from this combination for portraits are quite stunning wide open. This is taking advantage of the field curvature to produce this amazing portraits. No wonder Zeiss didn't change the original design from the 1930s, just using modern t-star costing. Magical By the way the field flattens wonderfully when stopped down and gets sharp edge to edge for landscapes too. Love the small size, I use it with the TAP adapter for autofocus and also the voigtlander adapter close focus adapter for manual

Character, classic glow wide open, very sharp stopped down. Built solid. Small. Using this lens on a Sony 7R, so no focus shift issues for me.

This is an outstanding lens for the price, but I encountered some difficulty getting it to perform. There is a focus shift on the lens that made it difficult to use at wide open (f/1.5). The lens I received was calibrated for spot-on rangefinder coupling at f/2.8 (admittedly a mistake on Zeiss' part). I sent mine back to the factory in Germany, where they re-calibrated it (to spot-on at f/1.5, not 2.8) for free after some paperwork. Now, it is very nice, but it doesn't get fully sharp until somewhere between f/2 and f/2.8. Overall, a very nice lens that compares favorably to some of my vintage Leitz lenses.

I chose this lens for the basic reasons: 1. Low-light capable 2. Extremely sharp wide-open 3. Aperture increments 1/3 stop clicks 4. Zeiss build quality, guarantee, reputation 5. Price was significantly lower than Leica equivalent 6. My previous experiences with Zeiss optics have been perfect! My only negative is the Zeiss hood is relatively expensive...but it fits & works perfectly!!
