Cost of Ink is Way To high !!!

This machine worked well for three years. I probably make one print a week. Suddenly it began to drop blobs of PK ink on my prints. Fixing it will be more than half the cost of a new one! Checked the Yahoo/Epson users group and found that this is a problem with other users.

This is my only printer; I use it for general printing and plan to use it photographic imaging, too. However, at this point have only used it for general purpose printing. So I do not have enough experience with it yet to rate it any higher. Set-up was a bit of a problem. I don't consider myself to be a great computer whiz, so I may have missed the instruction to open (i.e., run) the file with the printer drivers. Thus, I ended up calling Epson, and a very patient tech walked through the process and got me running. My first print was to be on plain paper, using the matte black ink. However, I didn't realize I had to go into "Properties" to select plain paper. (I had already read enough to set matte black as the default black ink.) As a result the printer proceeded as if it were using glossy photo paper and switched from matte black ink to photo black, wasting a lot of ink. The lesson: Read the owner's manual before you print anything. I had previously used an Epson Stylus Photo R2400, which had worked well for me for over 7 years, but the changes in drivers in this printer threw me quite a curve. The first few pages I've printed with this R3000 are extremely good; however, since I have yet to print any photo images with it, I can neither praise or criticize it as a photo printer.

Such power, such color, Wow! I use this in my graphic design orders. I use this wonderful printer for my own family projects. I am very well pleased. Packaged superbly. I am looking forward to many years of service with my new gem.

I have used Epson Professional Printers for a number of years. This is my third. The only reason I sold the other two was that i had excellent offers to buy them and so upgraded to newer models available at the time. The R3000 was easy to set up. Read the instructions carefully if you own a Mac to avoid unnecesary issues. First prints were as good as I expected. Did both color and b&W prints and was very pleased with the results. Another winner from Epson.

Several huge improvements over the R2400 - some minor some major. The top is flat! You can have both blacks installed at once! The ink cartridges are bigger! Only complaints so far are that the drivers seem to have different interfaces between wireles sand wired and I'm still trying to figure out if theres a way to alert that the black ink needs to be or is going to be purged at the current print settings. We use multiple devices and I don't want to be constantly wasting ink.

We use this printer for high quality photo printing and scrapbook work. Colors have to be dead nuts on. It works. The first one we received did not boot up. Epson did an on line check and sent us a replacement right away. No haggling. We replaced an R1800 that had worked well for five years.

After 19 months the printer leaves black smears of ink randomly on all prints. Epson said print head was bad. Replacement of the print head by Epson costs just as much to buy a new printer. Epson should take a cue from canon and have user replaceable print heads. While it worked for its very short life it was great, but now it is just a very expensive paper weight.

PRO: The printer has both a photo black ink cartridge and a matte black ink cartridge. CON: The printer has both a photo black ink cartridge and a matte black ink cartridge that seems to be tied to the same print-head, and every-time you choose/need to use the opposite black ink cartridge the printer will then pump out the incorrect ink from the print-head and recharge the print-head with the correct ink. The printer seems to decide on which black ink to use based on the type of paper selected, (matte or photo). Changing from matte black ink to photo black (or vice-versa) is a process that takes about five minutes. It appears to me that six to eight recharges of any one cartridge will empty it enough to make it useless!

I was looking for a quality photo printer, to use at home. And wanted it to produce frame worthy prints. This is definitely the printer. Yes, it's a little expensive, but it's worth it to me for the quality prints. Plus the convenience of printing at home. If you can budget for it, then get it. I've had it about a month and love using it.

I have used Epson color inkjet printers since they hit the market, and as you would expect, each has been markedly improved over the last. My previous R1800 was faster, more reliable and made better looking prints than any previous model, but I had to adjust the curves to simulate commercial CMYK output. My new R3000 output a very good match to my G7-certified commercial printer's product - on my very first test print! RGB from Photoshop seems very accurate from limited prints (printer is still very new). I haven't had an opportunity to make B&W prints, looking forward to engaging all of those gray & black cartridges.

Every time I use my Epson R3000 (every day) it leaves me with one thought... how does it do what it does so perfectly! It must be magic.

I use the printer for family photos and artistic reproductions, more as a hobby. This photo printer produces great, natural appearing photos with amazing definition. I bought the R3000 for its large format so that I can produce photos for larger framed wall-hangings, but it also easily adapts to other size format. The setup was very easy and painless, although it does take a bit of time for the printer to go through its setup routine. I use Photoshop Elements for photo editing and it interfaces seamlessly with the Epson printer. This is my second Epson printer. My first was and Epson 810, which I will continue to use for my black and white printing of documents, but the R3000 will definitely provide the professional quality printing of photos going forward. The one drawback appears to be ink usage and cost. I purchased an entire replacement set of ink cartridges, except for the Matt Black, which I have yet to use at all. I still have ink in all cartridges after about a dozen 13x19 prints. I purchased a replacement set to have each cartridge on hand as the get consumed. Then, I plan to re-order cartridges as needed. So far, the ink does not get consumed evenly, but it certainly does get consumed! And, it is definitely not cheap. I did get a 15% off promotion from Epson for my first order, but it was still expensive. I also purchased a sample pack of many of Epson's papers to test out their uses and quality. I have yet to use any of these, but hope to find some more artist quality papers for my better photos. using some of Photoshop's editing options. I would recommend this printer to others who are interested in professional results for a reasonable, though not cheap, price. I can't imagine needing better results than this printer provides. It definitely exceeds my experience printing photos with my 3-in-one Epson. My only problem so far has been finding a place to put two relatively large printers.

I have purchased several printers trying to find one that printed my pictures clearly and perfect. This printer is the best so far. It has not disapointed.

This printer was easy to set up and use. The wireless connection allowed me to place the printer in a convenient location without having to resort to long cables. This is a replacement for an aging Epson Stylus Photo R1800 and has been a great choice so far.

My prior Epson Printer an R1800 finally gave up the ghost and I could no longer print anything clearly. Liking the Epson products I've had and needing to be able print photos up to 13x19 I chose the R3000. I do not regret that decision at all. I generally use Linux based operating system and found a link on Epson directing me to a Linux driver proving full support. I installed that and I can use all features including Wireless printing from my Linux laptop. The print is fast and the prints are a thing of beauty. Only downside I have found is the ink change routine has to clear the black ink from the feed and consequently does 'waste' ink when switching from Matte to Photo Black and back. I've not yet loaded any ink besides the starter inks that came with the printer, which I am assuming are not full cartridges anyway. At least, that's what I'm hoping. Overall, I would buy this again for sure.

Was fed up with bad color and media jams using cheaper printers, but didn't know if this pricey printer would be worth it. So far I'm happy. This printer is easy to set up and has a ton of functionality. It has no problem handling strange paper sizes or thick card stock. The feed mechanism is awesome - when I choose a border around my print it is perfect. And the color is amazing. If I can imagine an end result, this printer can produce it. I have not used it long enough to comment on ink consumption, and have also not used the B&W mode.

After extensive research and reading other reviews I chose this printer and I'm not disappointed. The ability to connect via Wi-Fi was very important to me and the $150 rebate was an added incentive. It is a very sturdy well constructed and a very quiet printer, so quite you don't even know it is running. Setup was fast and easy. I have used the Epson R3000 for a few weeks and a few dozen photos, it was easy to install and although the printer settings can easily be tweaked, the default settings work very well right out of the box. The quality in the color of my printed photographs is the best of any printer I've ever owned. I love the ability to change from photo black to matte black. The only thing that chaps me about this printer is the amount of ink that gets lost due to switching from matte black to photo black or vice versa considering the high cost of the R3000 ink cartridges. I am very happy with this purchase. It is a great printer and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in a printer that prints very high quality photos.

I use the Epson R3000 primarily for printing photographs . Once you get the color profiles dialed in ( not to difficult ) the prints are of excellent quality. Printing panoramas from a roll is allot of fun and the results are awesome. It is an ink hog, especially if you switch between black inks. I recommend that you use the economy mode if you do allot of black switching which seems to help a little. I use a Mac Pro OS X Lion. Make sure you DO NOT use the install disc that came with the printer if you are using Lion. Go to the epson web site and follow their profile / driver install instructions. Over all I am very pleased with the printer and the prints. I just wish the ink wasn't so darn expensive.

It's a pretty big unit and I was initially annoyed because the software cd did not include what I needed. If you have a mac with the latest version of lion operating system, you need to download drivers from epson's website, which is not entirely user-friendly. That also goes for the ICC profiles. Intersting that they don't have ICC profiles for all of their own papers. Also, epson's tech support is not available 24/7, so difficult for those of us with day jobs. I also read that it's heavy on the ink usage, but I haven't printed that much yet. I live in Arizona (dry) so I know I'll need to keep it on all the time and print at least weekly to keep nozzles clean. All that being said..... The prints are spectacular. I ordered a sampler of papers and the fine art papers are gorgeous (textures, whites, deep blacks, vivid colors). Despite epson's initial weaknesses, the prints are worth the experience.

The printer is used essentially only for photo production. The ability to handle multiple paper types and sizes is a big plus. I set up for a MacPro OS 10.6.x with WiFi and really quite easy to get the printer entered to my Mac. The paper selection process when printing was not initially intuitive, but once understood, it was easy to select different papers. I print from Lightroom 1.2 and iPhoto; currently Lightroom's profiles produce a darker image, but I am working with Lightroom to correct that. This is the printer for you if your focus is on photos. If you are looking to print color documents, I recommend a different Epson printer.

I installed the printer without any glitches. I use it as wi fi set up and it works great, but sometimes, as expected, could run very slow. Too bad it does not have option for printing envelopes. Regular non-photo printing is not of good quality, too grey and not enough black. It could be a setting issue that I have not figured out yet. Very little ink is provided with the printer as it comes in the box, it would be nice to get a bit more ink for the paid price. Adorama's service was great. Placing order was easy, but I called in the order becasue I had questions. I received the package in less than a week from the time of order.

I like Epson printers. The Epson R3000 Printer is my fourth Epson Printer. I started out with a 1280 model, moved to a 1800 model (loved that glossy look) and then went to a 2880 because I wanted to do Black & White, which I thought the 2880 did superbly. But my 2880 rear paper feed never really worked with any consistency and when the pump and other noises began to make me think that the old 2880 was on its last legs I decided to spring for the R3000 rather than take the risk that a new 2880 would simply have the same rear paper feed problems. Plus, Epson advertised that the R3000 offered better color, so I went for it. Installation & set up of the 3000 went well. There have been a few changes but nothing big and if you have used Epson printers previously you should not have any problems. Printing with the Top Sheet feeder is basically the same as the other Epson products. There has been a redesign in the way that thick "Fine Art" paper is installed. Rather than feed these papers through the rear as in previous designs, the Fine Art Paper is now inserted through a paper tray in the front where the printer grabs it, feeds it through to the rear where the machine aligns it prior to feeding the paper back into the printer it to make the print. I found the directions for this process rather opaque in the owner's manual and had to call Epson for explanation which Epson provided without any problem. Once you get the feel for the process things go fine, but the process requires you to follow explicit prompts on the screen in the front of the printer. This process takes time though, the machine is in control, it takes its time and you cannot hurry it. The good news is that there have no paper jams. I have not yet decided on the print quality. I have printed everything on Level 4 Quality. The first prints I made on Cold Press paper seemed to have a little more vividness but it is hard to tell. The monochrome prints I have made do not seem to have the great tonal values that I got with the 2880, but that may be a case of me getting used to the machine. The negative comment I have is Ink Consumption. The R3000 seems to suck up ink like the desert sands absorb water. Ink consumption is definitely much higher with the R3000 than the 2880. My preliminary estimate is that consumption is up by as much as 50%. I am going to have to reduce the number of casual prints I make with this machine simply because of this increase in ink consumption. The prints are nice though. Except for the consumption issue I am pleased with my printer but if you are considering a purchase think about how you will be using the machine.

This printer I great! I also love the option of printing directly on the compact disc! The print quality is also very beautiful given that you use the paper recommended for the printer. My only complaint would be print time and the ink! Every time you switch from Photo Black ink to Matte Black ink it waste alot of ink cleaning the nozzles.

I have been fairly impressed at how well the printer image matches my monitor (after quite a bit of manual calibration work - I'm too cheap and too infrequent use to pay for hardware calibration tool). Monitor is fairly good (HP ZR24w) so I'd hoped for good match and overall am surprised at how well color calibration works. The printed image is just a little darker w/ a little less contrast vs. the screen, but colors look very accurate. I use Lightroom and let LR manage color using Epson profile to match the paper I'm using. I downloaded LR 4 with soft proof which looks like a great feature, the soft proof for printer/paper I use looks just a little darker and lower contrast so I'm hoping the result using soft proof will be even closer. Pretty amazing for an amateur to get results this good (now if only my photos were better....).

Great quality color prints on any paper! Absolutely great results! If you like the control of printing your own photos and controlling your time, this is a the best! My only complaint is the amount of black ink it consumes as it switches between Matte & Photo black.
